I'd say the United Empire is pretty close to what the Emperor wanted for the Imperium, a society based on industry and science, but still highly authoritarian with xenophobic overtones. Especially if you go down down the Mezari route.
I don't quite agree with that since the emperor only emphasized the xenophobia because all xenos races were destructive towards humanity, the united empire is not Xenophobic exactly they have a bit of a superiority complex over them but they are not above becoming friends or allies with them (depending on the route), unless is the cravers or Horatio, also they do have a democracy, the United empire is a federation with a figure head akin to a constitutional monarchy
I pick the mezari all the time because if I go full united empire I'll fall behind in technology and can't make use of my powerful industry. Besides, mezari quests while not the most easy are also not the hardest either.
Not to mention they (Zelevas and the UE) succeeded in their goals without a godlike super being emperor (until the end :P). Big E got dunked on by an out-of-control rebellious tool (to the emperor). Zelevas and the UE (if you win your game) have survived against pirate hordes, nanite augmented crackheads, relics of ancient civilizations, murderous cybernetic bugs, an ecofascist eugenicist, and also managed to prevent the return of the old gods/become powerful enough that they aren't that scared of the old gods. Big E was the most powerful psyker guy with golden armor and amazing tech and still died.
Boi you are gonna be intrigued by the quest line of the umbral choir, is pretty much a human Lady just freaking out about something existing inside her mind because of her cyber augments and the choir simply sounding confused or dismissive (depending on your choices) about the roaring thoughts of the human girl making this rather unique and interesting hive mind either learn the value of individuality making their grip loose yet still quite there, like a proper choir thousands of different voices singing the same song on their own tune, or to just crush that dissenting mind and carry on to unite the galaxy, the same song, the same voice, amplified to infinity thanks to all the people who are part of the choir
Endless Space 2 (and, despite it’s flaws, Endless Legend) is perhaps my favourite 4X game ever made, ngl the sound design and soundtrack elevate it so high, that even the more tedious things feel really good to me also the ship designs and all other race-exclusive stuff, hnnnggggg god i hope Endless series continues on and gets bigger and even better
race quests and races themselves what does it for me. the fact that you change your race as you play i havent seen anywhere to this extend that it matters

I first bought _Endless Space_ back in 2012 just to sate my space cravings. I was pleasantly surprised by an engaging universe, beautiful aesthetics and one of the greatest video game soundtracks I have ever heard.
The united empire does definitely have Soviet asthetic, their boss is obsessed with drinks and calls you comrade if they're your allies. And threatens you with nukes if you're an enemy.
I actually bought this yesterday from the Lunar New Year sale, 80% off from all content. Played 5 hours so far, getting my ass kicked by Horatio, Empire and Fish Mommy and I love every second of it.
@@123aiakos Yeah, vs. AI with Sophons. To be honest I should focus a bit more on my military, I got the tech but I always end up building exploration vessels or science/industry improvements. Maybe if the nearby pirate lair was a bit more aggressive I'd have the incentive to do so, but so far I've been keeping them at bay with my 1337 H4x0R skills.

Essentially, there are select few Horatio who are as identical to the first as can be. (To the point they can engage in a form of pseudo telepathy by guessing eachothers thoughts) and they regularly overthrow eachother, while the others are aware of impostors, no one knows that some have succeeded
The unfallen are objectively benevolent, and have good intentions, but their tactics are underhanded. Their celestial roots act as an information superhighway, giving them massive sway over the galaxy's politics and culture. This means they can bring the galaxy peace, and they will, whether the galaxy likes it or not.
I love how despite being an absolute monarchy, we as a species will always regard the imperium as a communist faction because of the use of red on white propaganda.
To be fair, it's not actually an absolute monarchy. There is an entrenched and powerful aristocracy and much of the authority is actually held by megacorporations.

For your first play I suggest either the empire or the sophons, lumeris can be fun but they have some rather complex. Mechanics given that they are so economy based
Although, it is not to far from a strategy, they made "Dungeon of the Endless". Also, they have released a dating sim called "Love Thyself" on April fool's day. But I can agree with you, it would be awesome to play some plot-driven game set ih the Endless Galaxy.

I hope you watch Endless Legend Major Faction intros, game trailers and DLC trailers. I am sad that the Automatons from Endless Space 1 weren't in this game. Who wouldn't want to play as cool clockwork robots with cool clockwork space ships?
They are VERY hard to play they don't colonize planets or anything they depend on 2 things ships named arks and influence if they fail to get those things they die very quickly

If you get the chance dive into the lore behind the false prophet of the Vodyani, it leads to a rather interesting story which helped change my thoughts on everything related to the endless

penumbra's theme is the best in the game, it also plays while you're playing the race which is super peaceful and relaxing.
