- To celebrate the launch of Stephen Shore’s experimental new memoir 'Modern Instances: The Craft of Photography', we are joined by Stephen Shore and George Miles to discuss, among other things, the making of this dazzling new book, how to master one’s craft, Shakespeare, baseball, and what it means to really pay attention.

I’ve been studying Stephen’s work for years… And his books, interviews, videos and now this wonderful book. I’ve traveled to many of the locations in uncommon places, re-creating the photographs exactly to document the effect of time on a place. Knowing a lot of his thought processes that went into these photos… It was fascinating to stand in the exact same spot, usually on the exact same day 40+ years later and just taken the thought behind the pictures. Marvelous Photographer
that's so interesting! do you have those photos available to view anywhere? would love to see how they change my view of the originals
At the end George mentions the "gaps" in the book making him question how much he is projecting his own experience in to it. Not only is that a beautiful way to put it but it was exactly my experience as well. The book is a total joy and the gaps are a brilliant stroke that will allow us to read it for years and even decades, and feel like we're picking up a new, ever more worn, book each time. Thank you, thank you.
Can’t wait to receive my copy - which is fortunately nearly here, in the mail, but unfortunately postal service has taken it farther away, before delivering it. I had so hoped to have the printed version in my hands prior to watching this. Fortunately, again, though: I can watch this program again in a few days, after I get my copy of this work. THANK YOU for making this possible. Peace and happiness and health to all. Cheers!
What a joy to read. I’m in the middle of my second time through.
Wonderful.
