  • The Doina is a traditional form of vocal music in Romania known for being emotional charged and mercurial. There is also, sometimes, something meditative in the Doina depending on the singer.
    Gorgeous music--well worth listening to.
My Doina is 6'20" long--and is not based off of any extant music. It might seem longer because the form is very fluid and improvisitory sounding.
This is a great performance led by my good, good friend George Mathew. He does an amazing job shaping the piece--and I am grateful for his beautiful musicianship. The Cellist is Mihai Marica--another musician I have had the great good fortune to work with for many years and who plays with intent, and from Life. .
The venue is the Cathedral of St. John Divine in New York. The event took place on New Years Eve--a long tradition at the Church. St. John the Divine is the largest Gothic Cathedral in the world. I only mention this because the linger time on sound can be seconds long. George and Mihai did an amazing job keeping things clear.
