    The colour is really beautiful. I usually like wood coloured ukuleles better, because I think they look like higher quality. But this one looks really good. To be honest, the sound doesn't convince me that much, I liked the sound of the other 2 fender ukuleles much better. I like the deepest best! :)

      I love hearing your opinions, and I agree that it is a beautiful ukulele. The sound isn't what I prefer, and I like ukuleles that are deeper in tone as well. I'm glad that you found the side by side comparison helpful. Have a great day!

    So happy to hear you try out the Moonlight by actually playing "Moonlight"! Sounds like a really solid instrument, worth the price. Yes, the Moonlight is bright, and the U'Uku is richer and deeper. I don't have a personal preference tone, because for me it changes based on the song or even the mood.

    I am a "re-beginner" - 66 and retired. I purchased the Fender Tenor Koa Nohea a month ago from the Ukulele Site store (by Oahu's north shore). I had waited until a scheduled vacation to Oahu and in the meantime did obsessive research including all of your unboxings! I had zero interest in a Fender due to its non-traditional headstock. In fact, based on my research I was looking for a 1) traditional looking 2) satin finish 3) concert uke. I tried at least 15 ukuleles at four stores. What a shock to come home with a glossy tenor Fender! I agree the #1 thing is to choose a uke that "speaks to you." Your words are so true! The Nohea spoke to me. Now I am thinking of buying a second, less expensive soprano for travel and camping. And I am no longer ruling out Fenders, so I was very interested to watch your review! I especially appreciate the comparative sound tests you do - including the after ring, your feedback on action and your thorough descriptions of detailing. Considering I ended up with a tenor it's probably no surprise the U'Uku has my favorite tone. If you have played the Nohea, I would be especially interested in what you think of the U'Uku action vs. the Nohea (recognizing the different size fingerboards). Action is so important and it is the hardest of all attributes for me to envision. I can use my senses of sight and hearing to evaluate what I see and hear on videos, but not my sense of touch. Thanks and keep it up!

      Thank you for your thoughtful response and for the in-depth description of your your Fender Ukulele :). This information is going to helps so many people when making a decision. I'm so glad that you light the sustain test and the back to back comparisons between all of the ukuleles. Sometimes it can be difficult to hear the subtle differences between many ukuleles unless you play them back to back. Thank you for the feedback :). It really helps me. Have a great day!

    I've just ordered this one for my wife. We went to two different music stores, and checked online sites. We played sopranos in all the stores; while the Fender didn't measure up to the $200+ models, it was noticeably better than those in its own price range. The model we looked at was the Venice; the wife wanted something with more color, and I wanted something with slightly better quality. I'm confident that the Vanderwaal will fit her playing style, and be among her favorite instruments. AND your demo showed me an instrument which fits ME: that U'Uku! Now I have to look deeper into that one, to get it as a Yuletide present for myself. Thank you.

    I own the concert size and I love it so much. I'm a beginner and I really thank God that my parents can afford it. I think it depends on what you are looking for, I decided to get the concert bc 1. I'm a fanderwaal 2.I will use it to play at different events (school, church and family reunions) so it's more convenient to have the one with the Fishman pick up. But if you can't afford it you can buy this one if you really want to have a Grace VanderWaal fender ukulele or find another one similar or that you can afford. You need to remember that it's not necessary to have a Grace VanderWaal ukulele if can't afford it, you can first buy a cheap one just to get familiar with the instrument and learn the basics and then you buy a GV ukulele or another one (also to know if you really like the instrument or not, so you don't waste a lot of money)

      I have one, too, Helen and I love it. I do wish it was a tenor, though. They are just enough bigger that it makes it a little easier to play. I bought a Roland Mini Cube amp for mine. You can make the uke sound like an electric guitar and more. You should look into tuning your uke to low G, also. Gives it a whole different sound. Just do a search. Have fun!

    Katie, I just restrung my GVW uke with Aquila Lava low G strings and I love them. They're louder and brighter than the Fender strings and they're a deep charcoal grey, almost black, which look cool, too.. And I'm going to replace the wound low G with an unwound Aquila Red low string as soon as it shows up in the mail. If you haven't read about the Lava and Red Aquilas, do. They've been getting great reviews. I'm going to put a complete set of the low G Reds on my baritone and will let you know how they sound.

    • @OneMusicSchool
      @OneMusicSchool  6 лет назад

      That should be my next review! I just changed the strings on my solid top spruce from Sun Star with some Martin strings. OH MY GOSH!!! They're amazing!!!!!! I want to do a strings comparison video where I test out a variety of strings. That is going to take a lot of work :).

    • @marksandal4852
      @marksandal4852 6 лет назад

      I just watched a string comparison video the other day. The guy went through 4-5 sets and went back and forth playing the same little ditty 3-4 times and I'll be darned if I could hear any difference. I just don't think the sound comes through a computer like hearing it in person. But it may have been this guy's sound system, too. Now when you compared the different Fenders in this video I can definitely hear a difference in the 3. And yes, It will be a lot of work.

    • @OneMusicSchool
      @OneMusicSchool  6 лет назад

      I completely understand. I think the equipment used can really make a difference. I use a RODE shotgun mic. I'm working on trying to get the background noise eliminated to make the sound clearer, but that's another story.

  • @seitanicgirl

    I purchased this ukulele. I'm not going to lie, 75% of my reasoning for purchasing it was because I'm a huge fan of Grace and 25% of my reasoning was because it's absolutely gorgeous. The action out of the box was pretty high, so it did require a set up to be player-friendly. I also didn't care for the fender strings, so I changed out the strings with a set of low G Living Waters strings. It's not my favorite sounding ukulele so far, but I only just got it back from the luthiers, so I haven't had too much chance to play around with it yet.

    • @OneMusicSchool
      @OneMusicSchool  6 лет назад

      I love your honesty! I'm so glad that you had the ukulele set up because funky things can happen when an instrument has been shipped to a store, change in humidity, change in climate, etc. I would love to know your thoughts on this uke once you've had a chance to play it for a while. I played it on and off for 3 weeks so that I could get a good handle on the instrument.

  • @nailee7428

    I prefer Grace's ukulele, because it just sound like her :D Plus it is Grace VanderWall's ukulele so this is a number one choice for me. But there is one little problem with this ukulele - it is for right handed players and I'm left handed and I play ukulele as a left handed. So I could only have it as collectible and decoration.

    ~~~☝🎶🏡~~~
    This is THE review
    for anyone interested in these Fender uke's. Especially the Grace signature Moonlight Fender. Really appreciate the little details you explore. Like the intonation at different positions along the neck. Pointing out the price differences for added details for basically the same uke's in the Seaside and the U Uku was very helpful.
    Ya the sound comparison was stellar.
    I like the tone of the U Uku , yet it's nice to know one could have two or three affordable Fenders that give different tones to hear depending on the playing setting or mood.
    Is the Moonlight neck heavy? The headstock looks a tad overwhelming on this petite beauty. The color and finish though is wonderful.
    I don't know what happened, yet I saw the notification for 7:30 GMT and left a comment saying I look forward to today's viewing. One of your subscribers, Katie N. replied she was as well.
There are some ukuleles that I've tried that have a combination of laminate and solid tone wood, and they sound fantastic as well. I guess you just have to try them out and see which one speaks to you. You also have to b very careful because an ukulele make of solid tone wood that is not vintage needs some extra attention (temperature, humidity).
    I bought it, yesterday only because I am a Grace Vanderwaal fan. The ukulele looks good, but the sound... I will wait to see when it will arrive.
    Edit: I received it and I didn’t like it 😢 But I give it to my daughter, for a starter uke, it is ok.
    Everyone always forgets to mention that both GVW ukes come with custom, dark-blue gig bags with Grace's heart signature embroidered in gold on the zippered pouch. Even the Fender website fails to show a picture of it. It is worth $30-$40 by itself. You can find a picture of it here: reverb.com/item/15744448-fender-grace-vanderwaal-signature-acoustic-electric-concert-ukulele-w-gigbag
    • @OneMusicSchool
      @OneMusicSchool  6 лет назад
      Actually, in my concert review, I did go into detail about the gigbag; however, not every retailer offers a gigbag for the Moonlight. I've seen a think gigbag on Amazon, but that will cost you $10 more.
    • @marksandal4852
      @marksandal4852 6 лет назад +1
      Sorry, I didn't hear it. And I can't believe people are selling the gig bag separately. I would have to say something in their review section, if they have one. You can also contact Fender. I don't know if they can do anything about it. I did see some places that were selling regular Fender ukes along with one of Grace's CDs or music book and making them sound like they were getting a Signature uke. And I did see the concert offered for $189 from a place on eBay. Maybe they were selling the bag separate and I didn't notice. It guess makes it sound like it's a better deal.
    • @OneMusicSchool
      @OneMusicSchool  6 лет назад
      That can be tricky depending upon the retailer. Some things are or aren’t included, so I’m glad people can shop around. I know where I work, they’re having a 10% off sale right now, so it saves you a little cash. I wonder what they’re selling these things for whole sale and what the profit margins are.
    • @marksandal4852
      @marksandal4852 6 лет назад
      I've wondered that, too. They're made in Indonesia, (Oops, I mean, "crafted"), so I'm sure Fender is, at least, doubling the price. Probably more like doubling it for wholesale and then adding at least another 30-50% for retail. This is all just a guess, though. I bought a Fishman preamp, the same one that's in the GVW concert uke, for $40 off eBay. I installed it in my Mitchell baritone uke. It even came from China. It works great, by the way. And a regular Fender gig bag for a concert uke is $30 at Musician's Friend. So all in all I would say that these 2 ukes are a pretty good value. I'm sure everyone is making a tidy profit but I'm happy with mine.
    • @OneMusicSchool
      @OneMusicSchool  6 лет назад
      I did try the Montecito last year, and the mini review is on my Instagram. It feels a lot like the Concert model from Grace's Signature line. The glossy finish is beautiful, and I do like the tone. IT definitely felt like there was more weight to the Mentecito tan the Zuma. I hope that helps.
    • @OneMusicSchool
      @OneMusicSchool  5 лет назад
      I think it’s decent. What did you think judging by the sound samples? I played all over the neck, so I hope that helped. In my opinion, I prefer a more rounded sound with less high end. This has a lot of treble and has a higher pitch.
    Buying a instrument which one is more important, the sound or the comfortability when holding the instrument?
    • @OneMusicSchool
      @OneMusicSchool  6 лет назад +3
      Oh man, I would say all of it is important. Comfort is key. If you can't play it comfortably, you won't even enjoy the tone because you won't play it. If it's comfortable to play and you don't enjoy the tone, I don't think you would want to reach for it because it doesn't sound the way that you want it to. I hope that makes sense.
      mine is a cordoba 15cm. I've owned it for roughly five years and it has been my primary instrument. I didn't have to pay for a setup but did have to use a fine tooth hacksaw blade to deepen the E string as it was painful to depress for an F note and it was throwing off the intonation. IMHO a great uke for a c note.
