Average speed=total distance traveled/total time taken. They are asking us to calculate average speed for the whole journey which takes 74 minutes to complete hence you should first convert that to hours by dividing it by 60 and you get 1.23 hours. You should round it to 2 significant figures and that becomes 1.2 hours.
      Hope it is clear now.

the time taken for the entire journey was 74 min, you need to convert it into hour, i.e that is 74/60 hr. Now the total distance travelled is 17km aprox. Now according to the formula d/t: 17km/74/60hr = 13.78 = 14km (2.s.f) Hope this helps!

If speed is given in km/h, then you need to have time in hour as well.
