Still waiting for them to bring in a pre-game warm up feature like they do in real nhl games with tons of pucks. Especially for the EASHL world, be sick to warm up up goalies practice a few shots etc.
they have a "practice" for EASHL for this. A warm up feature would be awful. If it takes only 1 team to skip the warmup, that would leave teams pissed off that want it. If both teams need to skip the warm up, that would piss off teams that want it skipped
I know it’s a detail no one cares about but I’d love to see authentic game experience where the on ice lights as well as the score board graphics for goals, powerplay and so on are authentic to what happens in real life
They need to add last line change for home team - being able to see what line your opponent puts on the ice and being able to adjust accordingly would be great...

3D artist here with a degree in Game art...There's a number of graphical improvements in 22 that aren't really things that you will notice as a huge improvement but it's the package of the number of graphical upgrades that really brings it all together. The depth of screen space reflections alone are something that has been standard in games for at least the past 5 years so NHL not having it for so long really made the series look outdated. Also the skin shader for all of the players is an incredible improvement. I'm not entirely sure what people thought would happen in switching to Frostbite Engine. It's not as if any engine operates in a way where you can hit a "Goodify animations" button and magicly, animations become good. In general, all engine upgrades do is provide the user newer, better tools to improve their already established systems. The easiest thing to upgrade immediately is visual fidelity and that's what they did.
Not an 3D artist by profession but more of a hobby. I agree 100%. People expected so much when this engine was announced for the series and all i could think was "We are not going to see many gameplay improvements but some visuals. Porting a game into a complete different engine is tasking and in the minimal time they had I knew we were not going to see massive improvements when it comes to animation and physics. I don't really see 3D scanning when it comes to the faces though. If there is then its nothing that blows my mind. Hopefully they can introduce more high poly face scans next year now that they are using Frostbite.
This is the generation switch where graphical improvements in fidelity are relegated to frame-rate, ray-tracing, screen space reflections, and other technical mumbo jumbo that Digital Foundry talk about all the time. In other words, this new generation will have graphical improvements that won't be as noticeable, but are there. As far as gameplay tweaks, I'm not sure what folks are looking for. This game is as fine tuned as it can be unless they make a major change in gameplay, speed, or realism, but that can also now be fine-tuned by the player. No longer does EA need to alternate the gameplay focus of their sports games, as the player can. In addition it drives me crazy how folks also expect every new release of NHL to have a ton of changes. I have been playing since the 16 bit days. That has never happened. I will say, though, this generation jump has been the smallest jump since I have been gaming.
The only time I ever really look at my replays is when I body someone I think it would be fun if you could see them preparing to get hit or wincing in pain.
I think the frost engine is really good and they will make more improvements over time. I believe if they stick with this engine, over the next course of NHL games it will be better.
Maybe, but this move should've been done YEARS ago. Now the other sports franchsies in EA's lineups are already starting to move on from Frostbite. Specifically FIFA. For whatever reason, NHL was held back from jumping engines when the rest of the games did, and it's been a detriment to the series because of it. Here's hoping for better updates in future titles, though.
@@OldSoulNewLife and that's fine, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve criticism for waiting so long, thus leaving this particular franchise years behind the other ones. @5:54 I thought the frostbite engine separates player model from the stick to 2 separate units, meaning the stick should react realistically to obstacles and not puncture boards or glass???
I feel like anybody on current gen (Xbone, PS4) won't see too much of a difference graphically compared to next gen. I just hope that the gameplay FEELS different when I finally get my hands on it. It still looks samey to last year, but honestly that's not a bug deal to me. I figured most modes wouldn't get super touched up since they made the move to a new engine. But the feel from, let's use FIFA as an example (they just got an updated engine, or at least an add on to Frostbite) is noticeably different.

Other than that, this game feels more of a roster update that I have to pay 90 dollars for unlike previous games, at least last year we had a new career mode, which got boring and stale real quick.
The problem is it's exactly the same game , EA didn't expand on any of the game modes ones is the same , threes eliminator only goes to 7 which is to short, 3v3 and 6v6 is the same the only thing they changed is the presentation, customization of build's and the menu system but the overall game is copy and paste
The early trailers/teasers made it look like this game was gonna look unreal. When your just playing it looks pretty much the same if not worse at times outside of the shiny ice..
I haven't played NHL since NHL 13, so basically, more than eight years so IMO it looks better, obviously, when I will buy this game on PS5 it will look slightly better, because I have the TV that's incredible and the graphics will be seen without any video rendering because I know that sometimes you still lose a bit of the quality, it doesn't look same in video and in a game itself. So I like everything about this game, but if I will play NHL games for 3 or more years, maybe it will look the same every single time, IDK. The most important thing for me is the content that the game has, not only graphics, but it is always more pleasant to play when details are that precise, it just creates that real-life feeling so overall it's pretty good. As you mentioned, the only problem is animations. Celebrations look the same when you play this game for more than a few weeks/months. So more variety would be an improvement. And maybe player movements are sometimes too smooth, too fast, it's not how it should be, maybe when you play in NHL it is real, but when you play in other leagues, I mean in European, it's not that realistic because real games in Europe (Sweden, Finland, Germany, Swiss, Russia (KHL) are not that fast and pacey. So if they would make the gameplay a bit slower it would be more realistic. And sadly we don't have KHL in the game. This is the most-watched hockey league in Europe and many players from KHL come to NHL, so it's kinda strange that EA is not including and creating this league, maybe they can't get the license, but it would be a massive move and it would attract a lot more money and fans.
Anybody else noticed that the instant replays has been simplified and for examble you can't see the opponent's goal replays or the penalty replays at all anymore like in nhl21? And this is in PS4 anyways. And why heck there still is not a world championship tournament mode??

Simple things like that really make the game more immersive and enjoyable. Worse part is everything I listed has already been in previous games from almost 10 years ago.
@@ChronicTerps that's exactly it.. there's really nothing to complain about because it's the same exact game that's been recycled for years. I just assumed on the newer consoles we would get a game built from the ground up. It's literally a fresh coat of paint and the pointless x factor gimmick.
is there national anthem or online gm play? did ea put in the correct goal songs? are there real coaches? can you select different commentators? are there legends like gretzky etc how is the cup celebration can u do a lap with the cup? can you choose long term deals with different teams when your contract is up? can you perform lacross goal easily? is there allstar game with skills challenge? are there real gms?
I have been offered trial version for Xbox One, despite having Xbox Series S. Will the non-trial version be the same? I like the gameplay so far, it runs smoother but there is still kinda buggy/laggy/choppy element to is (even in offline mode). Instead of graphics the gameplay should be improved.
Can you give us another look from a camera angle closer to the ice? I know it's cringe but I prefer that angle and trust my teammates that they're in the right spots.
2K needs to enter the hockey space because EA is the absolute worst. Same game for the last 8 years. Haven't purchased it since 2017 and have no regrets at all.
100%, its why Madden has been continual trash ever since they got the license. Competition is what every franchise needs, because they clearly don't give af about improving anything since its the only option for gamers to buy.
I used to could score 5-6 goals a game easily by just firing off one timers, but first 3 games of NHL 22, I didn’t hit one! Gameplay is definitely wayyy different.
I would say that the changes are the bare minimum of what we should expect from a next gen hockey title.Graphically I think it doesnt look much better and it is still behind when it comes to other EA sports titles. Unfortunately the small changes do not make me want to buy the game, when the animations are still jank and the game play still feels like I and inflatable raft around my body when i go to check people.Board play still is non existent pretty much ,the menus are still sluggish, and it still takes way to long to get games in on drop in.Thats the short list btw, thanks for doing a graphic comparison though.
So I bought the game on PS4 for like $38 because it said PS4 and PS5 now that I am on PS5 though it wont give me the option for PS5 says I need to buy the game again for $45 for PS5 or the $100 X factor edition... Thanks EA now im on PS5 with the PS4 version of the game! (Is there anything I can do to get the PS5 copy?)
It’s not perfect but after playing Fifa for years it took at least 4 years under frostbite to get it right and now the game in crazy good. NHL 22 will be good but i’m expecting it’ll be another few years before it hits the sweet spot
We need a new creator to take the hands on the NHL franchise. It's the same shit over and over and over and over. Would love to have a new hockey game. I miss the old NHL2k Series.
Is it worth buying if I still don't have a PS5 a year later (because of the shortage) and would only be able to do it on PS4. Its a rip off to have to pay $100 just to be able to play on PS5 given the shortage they should give free upgrades.

Yes we need. I like to watch close up replays and attention to details.
id love winter classic to come back eventually and a create a logo/helmet and like a warmup feature u could skip if wanted
The good thing is they have now spent this season looking at the graphics, now the next game should be focused on animation revamp

I've played a bit of Chel and don't see what everyone is complaining about
@@ChronicTerps that's exactly it.. there's really nothing to complain about because it's the same exact game that's been recycled for years. I just assumed on the newer consoles we would get a game built from the ground up. It's literally a fresh coat of paint and the pointless x factor gimmick.
@@ChronicTerps this fan base is incredibly needy. I think they could add GM connected but overall it’s a very good game
In NHL 21 my mustache doesn't even render in. Unless it's a cut scene of course.
My grandfather once came in while I was playing nhl 21 and he was like “oh who’s playing tonight?” Lol
you can line change on you own without switching to another player that’s new
Looks like the next gen is awesome!!
Thank you sir for the footage!!
Can NHL teams be substituted with other leagues in franchise mode?
is curent vs next gen a huge difference??
I think so.. NHL 22 is Sick af on Series X
All the graphic stuff ( reflections especially) has to do with the next gen console not nhl 22 itself
is there national anthem or online gm play? did ea put in the correct goal songs? are there real coaches? can you select different commentators? are there legends like gretzky etc how is the cup celebration can u do a lap with the cup? can you choose long term deals with different teams when your contract is up? can you perform lacross goal easily? is there allstar game with skills challenge? are there real gms?
Am I the only one who feels the puck hitting the net should be fixed like especially on the frostbite engine
You should mention what consoles they’re on. Regardless, enjoyed your content.
Can you give us another look from a camera angle closer to the ice? I know it's cringe but I prefer that angle and trust my teammates that they're in the right spots.
We need a new developer for this game man, literally just lighting is their new "feature" would really love another studio try a crack at a NHL game
Gameplay 22vs 21? Is that doable?
2K needs to enter the hockey space because EA is the absolute worst. Same game for the last 8 years. Haven't purchased it since 2017 and have no regrets at all.
100%, its why Madden has been continual trash ever since they got the license. Competition is what every franchise needs, because they clearly don't give af about improving anything since its the only option for gamers to buy.
San Diego Studios needs to be in charge of all the EA Sports games, except for Madden.
I used to could score 5-6 goals a game easily by just firing off one timers, but first 3 games of NHL 22, I didn’t hit one! Gameplay is definitely wayyy different.
wait how do y’all play this
How is nhl 22 officially here it doesnt release till the 14th
We all want them we want to play in the warmups and a bench clearout
I would say that the changes are the bare minimum of what we should expect from a next gen hockey title.Graphically I think it doesnt look much better and it is still behind when it comes to other EA sports titles. Unfortunately the small changes do not make me want to buy the game, when the animations are still jank and the game play still feels like I and inflatable raft around my body when i go to check people.Board play still is non existent pretty much ,the menus are still sluggish, and it still takes way to long to get games in on drop in.Thats the short list btw, thanks for doing a graphic comparison though.
In 21 Pastrnak looked more european, in 22 it looks like it’s an American imposter of Pastrnak
Is it just me or does the gameplay look kind of choppy?
On Xbox S still choppy/buggy but a bit smoother compared to NHL 21. NHL 22 should be optimised for Xbox, but we'll see how well it works.
I thought 22 only comes out on October 22??
How about customization in a fun playing game?
The guys that make MLB the show need to make NHL it would be so smooth and the graphics would be so dope
We need a new creator to take the hands on the NHL franchise. It's the same shit over and over and over and over.
Would love to have a new hockey game. I miss the old NHL2k Series.
It’s like playing Kirby on gamecube
Is it worth buying if I still don't have a PS5 a year later (because of the shortage) and would only be able to do it on PS4. Its a rip off to have to pay $100 just to be able to play on PS5 given the shortage they should give free upgrades.
is rusty coming
Colors pop a little bit more. Dude, they moved a slider over a little. It's not like an engine rework to do that.
Dude I swear they never get pasta right. His hair is a little longer, his smile is more recognizable and his face looks a little different
