    If Akechi Mitsuhide were the monk Tenkai, and served the third generation of Tokugawa, he would have lived over 100 years. His Kamon, the Kikyo, was also used by a lot of Family came out from Genji. Tokugawa also self-claimed that they originated from Genji. However, I certainly believe that Tenkai has a deep relationship with Akechi Mitsuhide.

    Akechi Mitsuhide is one of my favorite samurai, both in overall principle, and because of the mystery of Honno-ji. The theory that he was killed by bandits is fairly easily explainable with a kagemusha, or simply by the person who was killed wearing his armor was not him. As you said, he's a brilliant strategist, and faking his death would not be too difficult back then. In the USA, there is some theory that John Wilkes Booth, the man who shot president Abraham Lincoln, was not actually killed where they said he was. A few people who knew Booth said the man shot and killed in the barn was not him, and were said to have been forcibly silenced under threat of death. The man claiming to be Booth had lots of information about it on his death bed.
    You would not want the man who killed the president of the united states running around free. It makes sense they would cover up the possible mistake to keep peace in the country. I can see the same thing with Akechi Mitsuhide and needing to declare that the man responsible for killing Nobunaga is also dead. The evidence at the temple with the kamon helps support that. I like him so much that I have the Akechi clan mon on some of my own personal samurai items. I talked about him quite a bit when I did a video review of the Netflix series Battle for Japan last year.

    Not all periods come and go like clockwork, and the average is 28 days, so the regularity of pains on every 10th or 11th day of the month seems too precise. The human body is rarely that predictable. The "days of the month" tend to change from month to month. Then again, maybe that number comes from jun (10-day thirds of a month) and it was simply meant as an estimate, so it remains an intriguing theory.

    • @lyndsaybrown8471
      @lyndsaybrown8471 2 года назад +3

      Also, depends on the person, but the cramps really aren't that debilitating. I think a warlord (warlady?) could suck it up if necessary. If I remember correctly, Uesugi was deeply religious and may have been a little superstitious with regards to luck - maybe those were just unfavorable days?
      Still, interesting theory.

    • @Black.Spades
      @Black.Spades 2 года назад +1

      @@lyndsaybrown8471 There's many people who can't go to work or school for a few days every month because of cramps, but also because of heavy bleeding. And in those who do go where they need to, a significant part can't concentrate or perform well. And sitting at the desk is already something completely different from riding on horseback and leading an army.
      Although the same date every month (in Japanese calendar style) is too precise.
      But this "fun fact" might have been added after Uesugi Kenshin's death, and thus be untrue at all. For example we don't even know how they died. I've learnt a completely different version of their death than told in this video. So who knows what else could've been ascribed to that person. There were already many rumours even when those daimyo were alive.

    • @just_radical
      @just_radical 2 года назад

      One thing to note tho is that the Japanese writing would be using a Lunar Calendar so it's at least worth investigating if periods would be somewhat more reliably tied to certain days of the month if instead of 30-31 days like we have now the month changed every time a new moon happened.

    I can't exactly remember from where and when as my memories are vague, but there was this historical conspiracy theory of sorts popular from around a decade ago that stated Nobunaga planned everything, including his own death and the rise of the Tokugawa clan to the shogunate, right from the get go. Everyone was following this "grand plan" and history just naturally fell into place. I remember it was popular in certain niche historical circles.

    On AVERAGE and TYPICALLY, a woman’s period is a 28 day cycle and lasts ROUGHLY about 7 days. It is ILLOGICAL to say that this person CONSTANTLY had their period around the 10th or 11th every month. The cycle would slowly creep towards the beginning of the month, the 8th or 9th, then the 7th or 8th. ✋🏻🤚🏻 Yes, every woman is different. Heard. ✋🏻🤚🏻 Yes, sometimes it can last longer than 7 days, but that only strengthens my argument against the “every 10th or 11th of the month” argument.

    I’m a beginner when it comes to learning about the samurai. In addition to The Shogunate, what resources would you recommend to start me on my way?

    Rather than the kikyo-mon, the ones in 19:07 , at least the ones above, look more like Oda's mokkomon.

    I was under the impression that to experience stomach pains was the equivalent of fear before battle in the warring period. I find it curious that Kenshin would use such an excuse and so often he was accused of being a woman. Seems like the last thing a woman attempting to hide her gender would do.

    They used the idea of Akechi being alive as a monk at the very end of the NHK taiga drama Kirin ga Kuru a few years ago.

      1)vision hunt decree (sword hunt decree by monke hideyoshi)
      2) sakoku decree (self-explanatory, except it was after the sengoku jidai)

    My thoughts on the theories:
    1. This theory is kind of bullsh, but it might be true but I have a counter claim that there were other female warlord at the time period such as Ii Naotora and Tachibana Ginchiyo. So if Kenshin were a woman why would he need a disguise? There's also the fact that Kenshin is effeminate but mistaken for a woman.
    2. This one makes less sense. If Mitsuhide was Tenkai he would have lived pass 100 years, why of all people would Tenkai be Mitsuhide? Why not Mitsuyoshi, his eldest son or Hidemetsu, a distant relative which are also likely candidates.

    It is nice to romanticize Hanzo or Yagyu arranging a "kidnapping". Some "road agents " dissappear with Mitsuhide only to emerge a priest and loyal servant of the Tokugawa? Tokugawa could have been a part of it from the start. Very curious.
