  • Olena Tregub is a Ukrainian expert in policy analysis, policy design and reform implementation, with a special focus on corruption prevention in economic and security sectors. Since 2017 Olena has been Secretary General of NAKO (the Independent Defence Anti-Corruption Committee) - an international oversight body created by Transparency International. It’s her mission to strengthen democratic oversight over defence spending, increase accountability and transparency of the sector, which is critical in wartime, and has become a hotly debated topic in the run-up to the 2024 US election. Before joining the Ukrainian government, Olena built her career abroad in journalism, policy analysis, education, and international development. Olena has worked in the UN Headquarters in New York, taught International Relations in American universities, and cooperated with The New York Times and Kyiv Post.

yes, very, but also they've always been passionate and serious ppl. That is THE reason they survived since '14, and everyone in charge of most countries on earth knows that. Ru is an anachronistic plainly hyper-aggressie state bcuz it's run by both autocrat bureacrats & the only large secret police on the planet, that developed its sophistication during the USSR period. These newer apparatchiks are plainly wantonly avariciously greedy and decadent and have created a culture of bloodlust etc. This is plain hyper-fascism, not just 'fascism' as knew it in ww2. Those of us who have known eastern europeans, eastern germans, russians and the ethnic parts of russia, know these plain simple facts. RU has to be contained, or there will be no world as we've known it during the economic levitation of '45-now. Simple.

Angels defending good against utter evil and explaining the very psicological structure of how evil minds work to the whole Fee World . Fearlesly fighting and dying face to face with the devil and prevailing . West wasn't aware that this utter evilness could ever exist currently . Brilliantly gifted ukrainian people teaching how GOOD must be defended . There is still much more to be done .

7:20 Politically it´s impossible in Germany to start anything military. Most people are very cautious because of World War 2. In Germany almost nobody fears Russian collapse, Germany is fighting with itself and its history. Also way to many people in Germany still think Russia could tank everything and would have endless resources, therefore they consider it useless to support someone fighting Russia. Ukraine can change this showing strength.

With respect to the modern non soviet era fighter jets. There is no way in hell you can convert the experienced pilots to modern aircraft and, more importantly, the way they fight. It's too complicated and too different. When the poop hits the fan they will revert to what they know and be destroyed. The pilots need to be trained from scratch if this program is to have any chance of success. Sadly, they don't have the luxury of that time. Therefore, they need to hire mercenary pilots or as the lady says, Europe has to step in and finish this. You cannot rely on the usa. The only thing they understand is cut and run

Perhaps one day when discussing the corruption in Ukraine it would be useful to compare it to a system like , say , the American one where no one unable to raise many millions stands the remotest chance . How is it that it’s taken so long for ‘us’ to begin to appreciate how deeply our governing class has been penetrated by hostile forces ?

The modern leftist like Mr Biden believe somehow there can be war without casualties and no escalation can be used to win. Biden was willing to provide munitions because it helped the American military complex which was his main objective. Then to help Russia survive Mr. Biden limited the use of American munitions to within Ukraine. Why the Europeans cannot grasp this truth is so amazing to most conservative Americans. That is why conservatives in the US public is against just throwing money at the problem without allowing a true Ukraine victory not some kind of compromise that neither combatants wins or loses. Same case for the Israel Hamas war no winners and no losers just compromise.

i support Ukraine, but I think Ukraine is not the only reason Russia needs this war, Russia is doing domestic purges with this war, not only to rid itself of fighting age men on it’s borders and Easterly regions but to reallocate power balance and security laws, much like after 9/11 in USA. i think Putin is modeling a lot of this after America. i think they plan to emerge from this , open up the North sea passage and be King of the hill with China, well it is a complete farce and absurd, repulsive, criminal, it must be stopped.

"Support Ukraine as long as it takes" - this was a mutual attrition strategy. At some point both sides would get tired of the war and make peace. This had two obvious flaws and should never have been tried. Firstly, the asymmetry between the two sides is too great. A long war would always benefit Russia. And secondly, there was never going to be a bargained solution. Russia would not agree to anything less than Crimea and the newly stolen territories staying Russian. And Ukraine would not agree to anything less than getting its territories back.
I am skeptical when it comes to actual commitments to Ukraine winning. My theory is that Ukraine forced the new rules of engagement by attacking early warning systems deep inside Russia. The West hated that so much that they agreed to the new rules, provided that Ukraine would stop its nuclear mischief.

    • @g3air3

Backing Ukraine is the sole morale position one can make in this situation. If you do not back Ukraine you either fail on moral reasoning, or you lack any form of morality.

@@damarcusowens5511you don’t realize that helping Ukraine is actually making the USA a ton of money, they are saving on the disposal cost of old equipment and munitions and they are boosting their economy with thousands of new jobs and manufacturing to build equipment and munitions for aUkraine?
It is also saving trillions of dollars in the future as the USA doesn’t have to fight with their own people and also means they won’t have to fight China in Taiwan.
And another thing, you better not vote for Trump if you care about healthcare, education, welfare economic growth, equality and unemployment in the USA.

I am a 76 year old American living in Kherson throughout the war and I take the Budapest Memorandum very seriously such that we Americans must therefore treat the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine as the same as an attack on our soil in the interest of national security. Ukraine is a military ally at war with a common ememy and we must feel the loss of every Ukrainian soldiers as one of our own boys. Since Russia invaded Ukraine, all military targets on Russian territory are fair game. I volunteered for the Kherson Territorial Defense force three days before the full scall invasion on February 4, 2022 and I was turned down because of my age. I have tried three more times in various ways but I have not been successful but I will keep trying. My goal is to ride out of Kherson on an American Abrams M1 tank in a mechanized river crossing to the left bank of the Dnipro. Great discussion as always. Keep up the good work.

Excellent conversation, great to hear that there is some effort to go after the propagandists! Regarding the last question, we would be better to ask - Are we prepared for Russians attempt to absolve themselves of all responsibility? I think the excuse making for the war will be greater than the excuse making for the outcome. Ultimately, post Putin, Russians will want things go back to 'before times', they will seek absolution though claimed victimhood. Political apathy removes feelings of responsibility for the actions of the state.

For Ukraine to be victorious in this war against Russia that is a change the world and its economies and logistics can’t handle. I want for Ukraine to be victorious of course, but can you imagine the mourning after? It will challenge a lot of notions, I say bring them on what is life, without the consistency of change, but economies aren’t meant for that, and it will be one hell of a turning.
