As a Lakers fans, this banner disgusts me. We've been laughing for years of teams hanging division banners (especially Clippers), and now I'm forced to admit that even a division title is MUCH more valuable than that "title". This banner is an insult to all 17 banners we have there... Yes, even the Mickey Mouse banner.
To get a division title you need to play almost all of the 82 games in your season. Compare that to the only 7 games in the IST. Just the amount of time and energy needed for each, a division tile is far more valuable. I will say that for teams like mine that have never won and won't for a long time to come. (Thanks MJ) division banners are all they got. But if they do ever win it all I would fully expect and demand to have all the division and conference banners to come down to be replaced with the title banner.

To put this in perspective in order for a team to win the NBA Championship, (assuming we are not talking about the bubble) they need to play at least 98 games. (regular season + playoffs) And at most 110 games (or more now that the stupid play-in exists) if every round goes to a game 7. Compare this to how many games you need to play to win the IST which is only 7. It is downright evil to try to say that a task that takes almost 6 months and over 100 games to complete is the same as one that takes only 1 month and 7 games.

To get a division title you need to play almost all of the 82 games in your season. Compare that to the only 7 games in the IST. Just the amount of time and energy needed for each, a division tile is far more valuable. I will say that for teams like mine that have never won and won't for a long time to come. (Thanks MJ) division banners are all they got. But if they do ever win it all I would fully expect and demand to have all the division and conference banners to come down to be replaced with the title banner.

To put this in perspective in order for a team to win the NBA Championship, (assuming we are not talking about the bubble) they need to play at least 98 games. (regular season + playoffs) And at most 110 games (or more now that the stupid play-in exists) if every round goes to a game 7. Compare this to how many games you need to play to win the IST which is only 7. As a huge LeBron fan this in season tournament was kinda dumb. It’s a cool idea. But for starters it should have happened at game 41. Mid season. It’s possible that it could decide the regular season MVP. Rather than a popular vote contest. The best player on the tournament winning team, Anthony Davis, gets crowned regular season MVP. But then why would role players work hard knowing they’re not winning anything?
