The most exciting and best looking car Ford ever built, in my view.

    • @russcooke5671
      @russcooke5671 Месяц назад +2

That and the cortina 1600E. Especially the 3 litre Savage.

@@russcooke5671 I always fancied a 1600E, a really class car but somehow I never bought one. I ended up in Escorts instead. The Savages were lovely but very rare.

@@levelcrossing150 I had a even rarer one. It was a 1600 E converted to a 3 litre from new by a company called crayford. To basically the same spec as a savage but with a much more powerful engine. Beautiful car they only made two. There main business was making cars into convertibles. I had a few mk two cortina convertibles as well. They look very similar to the BMWE30 convertible. Look them both up and see the similarities

My dad got a Capri XL, pure white, in 1969. Our neighbours who ‘only’ had a Mk3 Cortina were so jealous! 😊

Great video Ed.....and what a lovely car, the MK1 3 litre capri really was a bit of a weapon back in the day.

Had a mark 1 1600L in tawny, (dark browm metallic), as my first car way back in 1975. Not fast but a great looking car and much admired.

My wife and I had matching Capri's in the early 90s. I was a fool to accept the offer for them both a few years later.

I learned to drive on a Capri mark 2. 1.3.
Ford introduced ( around 1975) the "popular" trim level to their Escort and Capri models.
Positioned even lower than the "L" model it was really basic. No reclining seats... no radio... steel wheels... black painted bumpers.
Our Daytona yellow Capri popular cost £ 1717 and adding a set of aftermarket alloy wheels and a black vinyl roof made it look quite respectable.

Great car and presentation. Pardon me, but the aftermarket sun roof kills it, stone dead ....................................

Yes I agree there. I'm sure if santa gave you this car for Xmas, you could live with the sun roof. I would have the tan coloured seats

I had a 2 litre one of these in the same colour. It was a rust box and not a particularly good car although it was produced during what was arguably during Ford's heyday.

Not sure that I agree with availability ref hot hatches. Yes you could buy a Golf GTI, Astra GTE, Peugeot 206 but you could also buy all the less powerful less spec models, as you could with the less powerful Capris. Plus I am pretty sure that the dash on the car you were testing was a long way from a tree

Not really comparable to a hot hatch. I had my 3000GT for 19 years and definitely had to drive it cautiously. I had an ST Fiesta as a daily driver and they were like chalk and cheese.

Manor Park Classics ... I appreciate that the purists will have a fit, but surely a Z3, MR2, Honda CRX or MX5 can be had for less than £2,000, which is maybe 10 times less than this 50 year old trailer queen would cost, and really only fit for expanding a financial portfolio investment, to a man that doesn't even like driving? These cars are on their third rebuild now, and most are absolutely horrible cars without a very big bank account. {edit} I see on your site, you just sold this for £16,962 - 8 times higher than what would be a second "affordable" family car.

SORRY it is not the ultimate affordable sporting car. Over rated and overpriced like most fast Fords. The original Puma was a much better car and I wouldn't swop any Ford for our mint E46 BMW 328Ci.
