The Oakland funk sound from Too $hort is so underrated. His voice is smooth and the flow is just perfect. Plus, he’s a nice guy! I’ve met him a few times in Vegas and he’s always so nice to everyone. Too $hort and Snoop Dogg are the nicest musicians I’ve ever met.

Short Dog might talk about the pimp shit but he always has that song that inspires and this is an example. I wasn't a fan of the hyphy movement but I love that Oakland Funk. One of the greats in hip hop no matter where you're from.

I was in middle school when I heard 2 Live Crew, Me So H*rny, on the radio!! Lol YT made me sensor the song name but I listened on the radio, Lol That's crazy!
And back then R & B was the best it's ever been~ We had Jodeci, Bel Biv Devoe, Bobby Brown, Whitney, Mariah, Michael Fking Jackson! I was really young when I saw Thriller debut on MTV and Madonna singing Like A Virgin. We had End Of The Road by Boys II Men as our prom theme! TLC, En Vogue and Salt n Pepa were played on the radio all the time! Such a great time in music! I graduated in 1996 and my boyfriend introduced me to Too $hort, our child can buy alcohol now 😭😂😭

@swike78 I don't know how old you are, but I grew up on too short and the dangerous crew, and others like e-40, Rappin' 4 Tay, Mac mall, way too many to name... But getting back to what you said, that this needs hella more views, Too Short was still able to go platinum and gold without selling records on the east. He got no radio play in NYC or the East coast. Not many Cali rappers were hesrd east of Texas. The East coast knew they were in trouble when NWA came out, and then there was an explosion of California rappers that were storytelling, with incredible beats, and if we're going to be perfectly honest, NYC was jealous. Too Short was dropping dope albums at the same time that the chronic was coming out, doggy style from Snoop, Death Row were heavyweights... California had the hip hop game on lock, all while getting no airplay on the east. It used to drive me crazy whenever KMEL, or power, wild 97.7 would play music from New York artists, after they blatantly showed us no love whatsoever. California has a massive population, so they only needed a few surrounding states to make their presence known and then eventually worldwide. I don't think New York has ever recovered. A couple of good albums here and there from several artists but California changed the game

Still infectious after all these years. I did go through a rap, r&b phase in my life, yet I always come full circle with this (Too $hort). I recall my youth cruising in a 1986 Buick Century baby blue while smoking cocaine laced cannabis with this blaring... Good times and great music. Not enough airtime but perhaps that is a good thing. Too Short wasn't as skilled of a rapper as some in the game. But he made his style work for him. He put out classics songs that old school listeners like myself still enjoy.

For someone like me who grew up listening to rap music with a message, it's hard to get into any of today's rap music. Regardless if Too Short was rapping about real issues or player status, his songs had substance and his talent shows thru in all of his songs.
To me it's crazy that one of my least favorite rappers has one of my favorite songs of all time, a classic is a classic, he knew he had to bring it when he got this beat, and that hook is just incredibly good
