The Oakland funk sound from Too $hort is so underrated. His voice is smooth and the flow is just perfect. Plus, he’s a nice guy! I’ve met him a few times in Vegas and he’s always so nice to everyone. Too $hort and Snoop Dogg are the nicest musicians I’ve ever met.
I found the Too $hort CD in my father's collection, it will be 2 years now in July that my father passed away, and listening to this song after finding a CD of his made me very emotional, that he is in a good place, I miss you every day when I wake up Dad, I will love you forever 🤍
Take this new gained knowledge of your as an inspirational spark to take a journey into discovery what real hip hop is by delving into the vast library of what is now considered "old school hip hop" (aka real hip hop). The cheat code to successfully complete that mission would be to make the late 80s, the entirety of the 90s, and the early 2000s as your diving board into real hip hop. I for one would like to congratulate you for realizing that there's better hip hop than the nonsense being force fed to the masses eardrums these days. Enjoy your journey into real hip hop
Short Dog might talk about the pimp shit but he always has that song that inspires and this is an example. I wasn't a fan of the hyphy movement but I love that Oakland Funk. One of the greats in hip hop no matter where you're from.
My cousin played this song in his truck when I was 12 and I remember how much he loved this song. Now I’m 19 and playing this is his truck. Rip Ricardo I miss you bro❤️
It's the farewell song I play for my students at the end of the year. Of course, I have to play the Calvin commercials from McDonald's and explain who Johnnie Cochran is. 😂
Music was SO GOOD back then! NWA was making music when I was little! We had the debuts of Too $hort, Ice Cube,Dre, Eazy, Tupac, Snoop, Biggie, Puffy, J- the list goes on. I was in middle school when I heard 2 Live Crew, Me So H*rny, on the radio!! Lol YT made me sensor the song name but I listened on the radio, Lol That's crazy! And back then R & B was the best it's ever been~ We had Jodeci, Bel Biv Devoe, Bobby Brown, Whitney, Mariah, Michael Fking Jackson! I was really young when I saw Thriller debut on MTV and Madonna singing Like A Virgin. We had End Of The Road by Boys II Men as our prom theme! TLC, En Vogue and Salt n Pepa were played on the radio all the time! Such a great time in music! I graduated in 1996 and my boyfriend introduced me to Too $hort, our child can buy alcohol now 😭😂😭
I'm so glad I discovered this song its motivated me get mine get my life back together and stoped me from making excuses I hope this song helps others who r tryna get on their feet and make something of them self's 💯👌
Too short, hands down is at the top of the list of #1 of my favorite rappers in the industry. I'm a woman and I feel this shit, foreal. I LOVE YOU dawg.
I got hella money now and this song helped me get here. I remember being broke as hell when I first heard this track and now when I hear it I think of everything I've been through. Everything he says is so in point. Fck. I'm tearin up right now just thinking of it all. Much respect $hort Dog 🙏
This song shall be a motivational tool for brothers to get up off their asses and get it done. This song just got me motivated. I remember when this song first came out in 1996.
@swike78 I don't know how old you are, but I grew up on too short and the dangerous crew, and others like e-40, Rappin' 4 Tay, Mac mall, way too many to name... But getting back to what you said, that this needs hella more views, Too Short was still able to go platinum and gold without selling records on the east. He got no radio play in NYC or the East coast. Not many Cali rappers were hesrd east of Texas. The East coast knew they were in trouble when NWA came out, and then there was an explosion of California rappers that were storytelling, with incredible beats, and if we're going to be perfectly honest, NYC was jealous. Too Short was dropping dope albums at the same time that the chronic was coming out, doggy style from Snoop, Death Row were heavyweights... California had the hip hop game on lock, all while getting no airplay on the east. It used to drive me crazy whenever KMEL, or power, wild 97.7 would play music from New York artists, after they blatantly showed us no love whatsoever. California has a massive population, so they only needed a few surrounding states to make their presence known and then eventually worldwide. I don't think New York has ever recovered. A couple of good albums here and there from several artists but California changed the game
I don't forget where I came from. Listening to Too Short when I was a bad teenager and young adult. This song is motivating. Dropping some respect for that Short Dog
Rest in peace to my cousin Donald Ross who officially put me on to Too $hort in summer school back in the day. We listened to this album EVERYDAY on the way to school
Sick beat anyone who grew up in the bay Area and is from Oaktown what's up from your Bavarian Nordic homie. Too Short was one of the more underrated rappers I think and Gettin' it is a classic. Who is still listening in 2019?
I remember sharing this song with my daughter a couple 3 years ago. Just letting her know it's up to you to make you into who you need to putting other people's view. Who are you and what are you going to be? All's I know is I share my power of three. What that means is my mind is free. I'm out of this third dimensional degree
