I am sitting here with my dog Shilo and really enjoying your amazing story. You have found out by your amazing courage and kindness what all dog owners and lovers have always known; dogs are the most loving, loyal and true friends you will ever have. You have that in Fred and Fred has that in you. I hope you have many many happy fun filled years together you both deserve only all the good things in life. Thank you for sharing your wonderful story. God Bless and take care of you both.
Paddy Wagon Driver 4 Yes, I agree with your comment, thank you (to the guy who shared this video about adapting the dog) and for all you have done and endure to help USA to be a safe country to live. xoxo to you both (yes, to the dog and the owner)
I read the whole book and it was great. I’m really happy on what you did. The stories about Justin and Sean were heartbreaking but I’m very happy on what you did. Fred is the best dog ever.
1st & for most thank you, thank for your service to our Country! All soldiers must be able to bring home the poor dogs they befriend and bond with--this shows that all dogs are made equal --not matter what country the're from--they all have the ability to love/be loyal/protect...make me sad thinking about his siblings and the other dogs left behind.
Omg I love ur book . It’s amazing and it makes me laugh cry and smile this is like the first pages of the book . Amazing story on chapter 11.Thank you for your service😊🐕🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

What love and hope this story brings to so many God bless you for your service and for giving your best friend a new home a new life I pray that you all will come back home safely thank you I am enjoying watching your story I just found it today
Many many years ago I was in the Army in foreign parts and we adopted a small group of dogs some of them had been badly beaten by the locals. Those dogs were the greatest guard dogs ever. When we left we were not allowed to take the dogs and they were shot by our .military police. Man, we cried, tough old soldiers crying over dead dogs. Broke our hearts.
Hi Craig! my dog Thor has a very similar story! he even looks a little like Fred! he was found by MPs that exchanged him for 2 cases of water to the Afghan Police (he was tied up to a mud wall, with no water or food) and was fed lots of salmon rations! He was then taken to Masum Ghar, Panjwayi District where he hung out with 3 other strays. The dogs went on every patrols. In exchange, they had bacon, Doritos, any food scraps (we had fresh food everyday on the camp... fantastic cooks!) I was a medic there, and was able to send him home to Canada through a British charity called Nowzad. I've been medically released now, and He lives on a small hobby farm, with a big sister (bernese mountain dog), a few barn cats and 2 horses. I hope he's happy! Thank you for saving Fred's live too!
I’ve followed you and Fred for quite a while and knew your story, but this video is awesome. It’s so sad that Fred is gone, but, you were both so lucky to have found each other. So many wonderful memories!😢 💕🐾💕
Hi Craig. I had a similar rescue experience years ago although not in a war zone. I was sitting in my office at the end of the day when I noticed a pup in the busy parking lot across the street running after people going to their cars. I didn't know if he was searching for his owner or looking for someone to take him home. I was worried he would get run over so I went out, crossed the street, knelt down and whistled to him. It surprised me that he came running over, laid down on the sidewalk, crossed his front legs and wagged his tail as he looked up at me. He had no collar. I waited a few minutes to see if anyone would claim him but no one did. I took him back to my office, gave him fresh water and a few of my lunch scraps, and we went home. Sam and I were inseparable for seven years until he passed away from a very aggressive form of spleen cancer. I had dogs before him but the bond between Sam and I was nothing I had ever experienced before . His photo is beside my comment. It's always about the journey. Hats off to your journey with Fred...Gary & Sam
