Has England had such a good centre-forward as Geoff Hurst since? One who made intelligent runs off the ball; was always available as a target and laid off quality balls, and on top of that scored goals consistently.

England ended eight years of agony of not having won at Hampden Park with this narrow but well deserving 4-3 victory over Scotland just barely three months before the 1966 World Cup finals.
For England's manager Alf Ramsey this victory over the Scots was all the more satisfying as the latter had won the last two matches at Wembley and at Hampden Park and the previous year had drawn 2-2 at Wembley.
But though the home team had trailed 4-2 with Bobby Charlton scoring the fourth,it was relentless pressure from the Scots that had the visitors on the defensive and had it not for Nobby Stiles's clearence off the line, the match could have ended in a 4-4 draw. But it didn't really matter as in the end England won 4-3 and that victory ended eight years of frustration of not having won at Hampden. And mind you,Bobby Charlton was making his England debut and scored in the 4-0 rout of Scotland when England last won at Hampden Park in April 1958.

Matches between us and England back then we're always great affairs.
Like the commentator said it'd been 8 years since an England win-that'd never happen today!!!
And the next time these 2 would play was after England won the world Cup and normal service was resumed when we beat England 3-2.
I wish I had been born in 1953 instead of 1973.
The 60s were such a competitive era.
I believe money has ruined everything nowadays.
For example Celtic won the European Cup with 11 guys all born within 20 minutes of Glasgow City centre.Thatll never happen again because of money and foreigners.
