The real joke of this song is that it was a comedy sketch for their show "I kveld med Ylvis" and it was supposed to not become so popular but it blew up because it was random and weird. They have other comedy songs, like Work it, Language of love, Mr. Toot, Stonehenge, Jan Egeland and many others. I also remember that one time Bård (the blonde guy) got the top of his head shaved like a monkon the show. They are pretty fun to watch.
I remember walking on campus at the edge of a wooded area and I hear a child's blood curling scream. Alarmed, I was about to run in there to save this child until I saw a huge fox running away from me, screaming like a terrified child. Shocked me so much I screamed too, matching the fox in pitch and scale.
Yo! the whole irony here is that these two guys actually had their own talkshow in their homeland Norway. And it's kinda like a gag talk show kinda like the American Conan. And they made this sketch like a gag for one of their shows, but the song got blown entirely out of proportion.

Let me give you some education ;). Ylvis are 2 Brothers who have a late night show (kinda like Jimmy Fallon for example). A couple of years ago they made that song and it was a viral sensation. They made so many more songs who are all very cool and have a unique sound (pop, country, metal etc.). But all have one thing in common: They're all comedy Songs! Just search for songs like: Intolerant, Shabby Chic, The Cabin, Joghurt, Mr. Toot etc. Sit back, relax and let yourself be entertained.

They had made music for a while, when they got the opportunity to go to a big studio (I can't remember wich one, except it was an american one, you can check it yourself). Basically the story is that they had a favour owed them by a big production company over here so they could make a high production video, and they thought it would be hilarious to just purposefully make a flop song and then say on their comedy talkshow that they wasted their opportunity, but it kinda went the opposite as it went massively viral. They were invited to go on Ellen. The FOX tv network even used the song for one of their promotional videos, where they had stars from various of their shows dress up with fox effects and mime the "what does the Fox say" part.
