The alloys are called 'Lepus' and were a rare optional extra on the 740 from 1985 to 1988, so they are 100% period perfect. They'll look stunning if they are refurbished and fitted with metal centre caps (similar to the ones fitted to the alloys of the original 760 GLE), if you can find them. Also, the replacement stereo looks great. Blaupunkt FTW.
I had a 780 Bertone with a Blaupunkt radio. It was easily one of the best sounding car stereos I ever owned! I wish I kept it but they hard wired it into the cars wiring harness unfortunately. :(
Your enthusiasm for Volvo’s is contagious. I wonder if Mrs Volvo looks across at you when you are sleeping with a smile on your face, and is happy that you are at least dreaming of Volvo’s. Lol. I replaced all relays and sensors in my 940 and it starts and runs beautiful, but I still have that apprehension when driving, after going home on a tilt tray. But at nearly 300,000 Klm the engine sounds new . I just need to retain confidence once again with it. I did also fit a bypass from existing fuel system, with relays and a couple extra switches. Now I sound paranoid. Lol. Keep up the good work. At least I work in the warmth.
Probably 😄 It's a huge knock when a car lets you down isn't it, but it's like getting back on the horse, a few trips in it and I'm sure you'll trust her again! And yeah, a bit too warm down there 😅
I miss that sound of the automatic 740! Thanks for the shout out!! Always glad to help! What a rats nest of wiring back there - I’m amazed all that fitted in there as there is limited space back there on that dash! Great video as always fella.
Those rims, are the same ones that the 740/760 Turbo have, a good preassure wash will make wonders the center caps are the same as the ones that the 940 uses Elsa looks awesome with the alloys, much better than the hubcaps👌👍☝🏽👏🏿
Hiya mate, really enjoy your longer vids. Your channel is so relatable; no big budget with thousands of pounds worth of parts, makes me want to work on mine much more than the huge channels. So keep up the inspiring work dude. I'll keep and eye for some centre caps! 🤘

Been binge-watching your videos all day as in the market to get an old Volvo. Just can't make up my mind on a 200, 700 or 900. Thanks for all the tips on common issues with them and what to look for
As long as you don't go for a diesel or a V6 go with what your heart tells you. I wouldn't swap my 240 for any other car. No matter how bad I'm feeling when I get in it, it always has me arriving with a smile on my face and a deep appreciation to be lucky enough to own and drive such an honest and beautiful car on the daily.
@@Involvod That's what it's all about - no matter what car it is :) @RetroTed Maybe just checking out some descent offers and taking the one that speaks to you the most could be a way to let the car make the decision for you.
There's nothing better than knocking out a ton of little projects on your daily that help improve the overall quality of driving it! I would definitely rock the 25bp wheels! They look fantastic! Can't wait to see what you find for the leak. I love watching the progress of your fleet and can't wait for the next one!
Rear wiper motor bolts coming loose seems to be common. Happened on my wagon as well. Recently fixed it after having driven for several years with a bolt rattling around every time I opened och closed the hatch.
This is a coincidence. I’ve mounted a radio in the coupe too this weekend. Never had a radio fitted before. Unfortunately the old Philips radio has a broken stereo output. So just one speaker works. Bought myself a Blaupunkt time period correct radio. Will arrive this week. Tried a glass antenna but the quality is horrible. So in the end drilled a small hole on the front fender for an arial. And after 16 years of sitting the door of the coupe couldn’t be locked too. All functions after some lubricant too. 👌🏻
I also daily drive a 745, a black GLE with sunroof, chrome trim and red interior. I drive it 200km a day and currently it have done 640000km with only one head repair on the original engine 👍
Awesome to see some good progress being made on the 740. It must be catching, because I have barely started refurbishment on the 940 Turbo wagon and now I have the urge to go see a clean looking 740 n/a wagon for sale pretty cheap about an hour from here. Could be a mess up close, but we’ll see. 😉 You know how it is…you can’t NOT go check it out! 😁 PS: Honestly I wasn’t sure I liked those wheels on your 740 at first, but they actually look really good. It’s all coming together! Best of luck with your next project!
you're heater adjuster is obviously haunted, hire a piriest asap *edit* man heres better than any priest about, I'll make sure and give him shout for any of my future volvo exorcisms
Gun metal grey or Anthracite would be nice colours to paint them, I've got an S60 d5 2004 vintage in dark blue, picked up a set of XC70 wheels for £50 and painted them gun metal grey, gives my car a bit of a stealth look now.
Now your making me laugh, with the slowly descending tailgate. Struts might be leaking gas. I think the Lepus alloys look good need spit and polish though. Re the tailgate panel. My 940 wagon was used to transport a dog who always sat in one corner with its arse against the tailgate. (I can deduct this because the carpet was worn out in the shape of the dog's nails) Anyway the previous owner did his best to clean the carpet but on a very humid day I smelt dog. I vacuumed and scrapped and cleaned the carpet in the back, still smelt dog. Then one day with the tailgate up and the sun at the right angle, (down low) I saw it. Dog hair hanging from the tailgate panel. The previous owner had done a good job cleaning the back, with the tailgate up, which he did not touch. So I removed the panel and discovered it was improperly attached. Replaced the carpet with new(but not original) carpet and reattached the panel. That was the tricky part. The clips/tabs seemed to go unnaturally close to the glass of the tailgate. But now it is properly attached and dog smell has gone. Sorry about the long comment.
Haha it's always nice to remove the filth from the previous owners especially when it's decades, I still need to take out the seats on s couple of the cars because there's so much dirt under them that no vacuum can reach 😬
Hello, Thank you so much for your channel. Really enjoying it! I have the same 740, and was wondering if you knew which gaz to put in the AC in order to make it work? Mine is empty and nobody seems to know which gaz has to be put in it. Best, A
There the only alloys I would fit to Kylie,my 88 Volvo 740 Se Automatic sedan, just need the chrome hub caps for them, 14" on the earlier cars untill the bigger front discs were fitted
Hi all hope you good dose eny one know if my Volvo 740 estate 2.3 liter non turbo its a f reg 1989or1988 do they have a fuel pump in tank ? and if it's got one under drive side as I can't see one ... cheers James
Cheers! They do have their own policies with the same firm, so they do us a decent price. Road tax is the same, I think about the same price too, but no option to pay monthly by direct debit, that would be way too modern and crazy!
Maybe put a slightly bigger tire on them to help fill the wheel gap and then they'll also give you a smoother ride that way. I like the way those wheels look as well. I still prefer my Hydras though...HAIL HYDRA!
Thanks, here they get strict during the inspection, the tyre size has to be exactly what's in the registration papers, but I'll definitely go with the larger size, gonna check what's in there. I wouldn't fit Hydras to this car but I would love a set for the silver turbo wagon!!
Speaking of radios, does anyone know where I can find a replacement areal base (the threaded pin specifically) for a 240 in Germany? It looks like it could be a universal part to mount into the base. I haven't had any luck so far though. Any advice would be appreciated I think the 14's fit Elsa really well, Sledge. They should give you an even smoother ride too, might be good for around town driving. Looking forward to a refurb video with before and after shots!
I'm not sure how old it is, it came with Ruby, the guy that bailed on us and didn't give us the extra parts, so I think he gave us an old and tired battery too! I replaced it

Yes, keep the wheels for sure, they look good already! I run 14 inch Coronas on my 240 because I don't want to pay the money for Virgos.
Thanks! I think you're doing the right thing, Coranas are my favourite 240 wheel along with the Scorpius!
Liking the new wheels mate! 👌 with a clean up and a quick repaint will transform the car 👍
Thanks mate I think so too!
Both right: 1995 and the chuckling...
Maybe try to find a shop that does dry ice blasting. That would clean the wheels without actually removing any metal. Then spray paint them.
