Gods I love this film, the Emperor's sheer feral expression when he grabbed for his scepter terrified me as a child.
The Trial by Stone and disrobing of the Chamberlain traumatized me as a child.

I couldn't Watch the one made in 2000. It just doesn't compare to the ORIGINAL one Right here.
It was exactly well done giving the history of and the origin of the characters
If it wasn't made by Jim Henson & Frank Oz than its Not worth Watching.
Give it a try. I was dubious also, but it's so very well written, and they continued the use of puppets and animatronics for most character scenes.
