I have to be honest here. That is one of the most realistic steam locomotive models I have seen with a working smoke generator. Nice work to all involved.
Model Railways have been around for many years and still companies are coming up with new ways to impress us! Its amazing to think that the future might hold.
Wow this is a fantastic model Richard and the steam is amazing. You have reminded me of why I couldn’t really afford 0 gauge right now but certainly looks great and the garden layout does not disappoint. All the best and thanks for sharing, Paul
Having a garden in the railway is one thing, but having live steam? Who could say no to that! Watching the video fully now, your A4 looks really impressive!
My oh my, what can be achieved in modelling these days. I’d love to see what could be done with a diesel equivalent; image that magical double Deltic exhaust!😈Nice to see you back by the way. All the best.
Now that's the model train I'd like to have. Sadly at 700 quid for the base unit plus probably as much again for the sound and steam, if I bought one and my wife found out you'd see my name in the obituary column. I do have plans to get the TRS system at some stage though for a OO steam loco if I can earn enough dosh. They are the bee's knees of smoke/steam systems for sure. Great to see an update and as for the guy who said your tracklaying was a disgrace ... It could do with a tidy-up, but early days and outdoors so it's all much harder than many think. Cheers and more updates, please 👍
Well, Richard... that is definitely a crown jewel in the collection. My HO BR18 steams and is in unison with the sound effects, but the atomizer concept is quite new to me, and very brilliant. Cheers! (Glad to see you posting again!)
I would imagine that could be rather impressive on a freezing cold winter's morning.🥶 I must say though, not too impressed with the sound card. The sound, and the smoke effects, seem way too fast compared to the speed of the loco.
It's a fantastic A4 Regards youv'e got there you must be so happy. Little tip get your track level wouldn't like to see your A4 take a header at the bottom of your garden Regards Alan
Loved that. It made me think of my very old Triang 060 tank, that heated up oil to create the same effect. That was long before the days of health & safety of course lol, but I still have that loco and the burner still works with sewing machine oil
Nice touch to No 9 there and the 37 looks stunning with the Maroon coaches now No 9 can run around the garden with them with a headboard of a named train
Fantastic job and great video Richard. It looks great, sounds brilliant but let’s see it attempt to pull that lovely rake of Gresleys the 37 was hauling around. I’d like Hattons to see that and respond to the performance issues which I know you suspect are not that good. It looked to struggle on the loop without anything behind it. You very honest in all your reports so ld like to see one on the Hattons A4. Cheers mate and keep up the excellent work, I’m not a Hornby fan but love the magazine show on RUclips.
I could build my whole layout for the price of one of them. Really impressive. Jenny Kirk has an OO with smoke. Good luck and best wishes to all. Martin. (Skint in Thailand)
A very interesting video. I thought about getting one of these A4's (This was when they were £750) and thought actually can I get a Brass steam loco for less than £750, and I did, I bought a connoisseur models brass kit of an LNER J68 for £310 in the end, I got the loco and 7 wagons & 2 coaches for the same amount, all a mix of plastic & brass kits.
Looking forward to seeing how your garden railway is progressing Richard! One day I will have my own garden to do the same, but for now I have to stick to OO. :) Also, the A4 is beautiful, I hope that Hattons do them in LNER liveries so when I do get my own garden, I can get one in Garter Blue :)
@@NewJunction when I move to the UK (when all the covid stuff eases) we’ll have to do a video together. Thank you for the compliments. I’m also loving seeing your garden layout progressing. I’m thoroughly enjoying your content 😊
I was impressed by the shots you took in your garden but the demo shot was something else, it truly is a great effect. As a note though I would say you'd be better to use pure water like deionised water to save any contaminants causing damage through long term use.
Hi, Richard I always enjoy your great content, one of your videos helped me out with unboxed rolling stock, which I acquired the Warley stock box. This helped me with a recent house 🏡 move & the ability to identify what stock I had in each box with out the need to dig down in miles of bubble wrap. With the recent house move (from a flat to a house) I will be building a purpose built outhouse in the garden, as I am unable to stand up in the loft. I can see that it looks like Mike has rubbed off on you, with you getting into O Gauge, I will probably look at building an O Gauge garden railway 🛤 on my next house move in the future, but for now it's OO Gauge in the new outhouse. Happy 😊 Modelling Phil 😀 PS what video editing software do you use for your videos and Hornby Magazines.
Hi Richard, Super loco and the Steam(water vapour) adds a lot to the realism of it but at £1000 pounds (engine + sound decoder+ smoke generator) it is an expensive locomotive by any means but seeing the Class 37 creep up on you and having seen some American HO Diesels with smoke will you add a TRS smoke generator to it so the modern!!! loco's do not feel left out. Looking forward to seeing how you are progressing with the build but in this the track was very bumpy was it just there without fixing down? Keep safe and well. Cheers Robert.
Awesome video. Unfortunately large locos such as this are out of my price range, hence I'm modelling a branch line (nothing bigger than a GWR manor or a 37, unless heavy freight (so I'd allow a 72xx or 28xx/2884)). I've actually been making quite a bit of progress with my 0 gauge recently. I've bought and weathered 2 dapol 16t mineral wagons from my local shop, who have 2 more in stock for me to buy at a later date, plus a parkside ps30 kit which I'll be building in the next few weeks and weathering to blend in with the rest, bringing my wagon total to 20 at current. I've also bought more decking planks to more than double the length available to me, plus some preservative which I'll be applying now the weather is good for at least a few days, plus then adding roofing felt which I picked up at Wickes earlier. I'm also thinking about wiring the track, think I'll use a HM6000 to control it plus some 24/0.2 wire as a bus wire joined to 7/0.2 droppers using brass terminal blocks, one per length of track. The only problem so far is the availability/price of track, as I only have about 3 yards on top of what I already had out since september, and I've extended the layout by about 10 yards. Now the lionheart mk1s are out, I'm gonna think about getting 3 as a second passenger train (the first being an autocoach), although maybe a 3rd locomotive might be advisable first (I'm thinking a 57xx).
Keeping my fingers crossed that we'll see something about your indoor New New junction layout soonish, though times being what they are...yeah, probably not. Just talking us through your design plans and process would be entertaining, even if there's no specifics or physical reveal yet. But I'm sure it's agony for you, too :) Anyway, greetings from Canada.
Hi Richard. Very impressive. The "steam" was quite visible in your video. I was a little concerned in the TRS video that "steam" was escaping from between the funnel and the body of the loco (did they fix this before returning it to you?). You didn't mention how much you paid (or what another customer would pay) TRS to fit the "steam" generator (not the sound decoder) for you.
Blimey, that is impressive! I know what you mean about the steam not showing up on camera though, I have the same problem when I make my live steam videos 😆
Great video as ever richard. It's very impressive and bespoke work that TRS trains do for these models and very interesting to see it in action. I'm guessing that they only do this to DCC locos due to having to program the function to work on the loco? Keep up the good work and stay safe James
