    I always assumed it was common practice to feed the wire spool counter clockwise, allowing for easier wire pull.

    I have a welding test coming up for my new job and it’s metal core which I’ve never used before, I’m used to solid wire so this video was very helpful

    Great explanation of the different wires here. Do these wires weld primered steel well? All of our plate comes primed and grinding it off is time consuming. also Our shop is wanting to switch over to the Fabcor Edge Ni1. Any experience with that?

      Unfortunately, we would never recommend welding on something that's been painted. It is important to clean off the primer for best results. There are some other products in the abrasives world that may be more suitable for your application. Ni1 is a more specialized metal core specifically designed for nickel-molybdenum steels. One of our reps would need to provide a full evaluation of the application in order to make a proper recommendation. I also put an inquiry out to our filler metal specialist over at Hobart to see what his two cents are. I'll keep you posted.

    When I use metal core I noticed I couldn't do downhill because it would start dripping. Any suggestions

      If you have a pulse capable machine, turn down the arc length slightly. If you have a standard machine then lower the wire feed speed as that will take amperage out of the arc. Hope that helps.

      @@puritycylindergases so I have the miller 255 multimatic, would this work well for it? I'm still inexperienced at welding right now.

      Don't downhill if it's structural, only for thin steel

    In the fabcor86 what is your wire speed and voltage

      I believe we were running an 045 diameter. Initially set at 26V and 400WFS - from here you can tweak it as needed.

      MCAW is generally intended for flat and horizontal welding. However, if you have a pulse capable power source, running vertical and overhead can be achieved with this method. The wire feed speed will need to be in the 150-250 IPM for 0.045 wire.
