Nurse here, Hospice is care given to terminally ill patient. Its a specialized form of care that involves trained healthcare providers and collaboration with family/caregivers. Its not just old people looking after old people😂😂😂
Alright im about half way through this vid and I see so much wrong with this whole situation. Home hospice care is a thing, home healthcare is a thing. Sure, those nurses and assistants cant be there 24/7 but they help with care a couple hours a day. Either they dont currently have that set up or their insurance isnt covering it anymore. She's a dying patient and has full right to live out the rest of her remaining days comfortablely at home.
Next thing is the cops. Do cops not have any sort of training to help pick up certain ques that might indicate abuse/danger? I understand what kenji is saying about being in the moment and hindsight being 20/20 but idk something about how they handled it so far does not seem right :/
Alright, got to the end of the video and here are my final opinins. I see systemic failure. From the cops to the health care system that had them in those arrangements. He was an 82 year old man on oxygen who probably needed help taking care of himself let alone his dying partner. Idk what their situation was that led them to that arrangement but i find it sad and troubling all around......
Anyway thx for reading this if you got this far😅😅😅 Also Kenji saying he wanted to be on oxygen and carry around a tank was funny to me😂😂

    • @randk-h1p

I understand what Kenji was saying about hindsight but that argument doesn’t really mean anything when it comes to this situation. Police are trained to take threats as threats no matter who they come from or how jokingly the tone of them are. Do a lot of police brush off threats rightfully knowing their jokes? Yeah, but that doesn’t change the fact that they’re trained to do the opposite.
Those two officers hold just as much responsibility as Henry bc the fact that they were dealing with two equally frustrated old people shouldn’t have changed their ability to see the situation at face value and with the seriousness it deserved.

I work as a CNA. We do this stuff on a regular basis. We change people, clothe them, and if they have to be fed then we feed them. But i cannot fathom this. Now some elderly couples are able to take care of each other like this. But this man was clearly also not able to take care of himself too. Some residents in the past have tried unaliving their spouses in their shared rooms on a unit an we'd have to separate them.
I feel so upset that our healthcare system doesn't pay the elderly for assistance they need, enough to get the at home help they require.
The elderly man may have been mentally unable to handle the care of his spouse at the point of the first 911 call. That should have been a big indicator from the get go.. If feel terrible about this situation, truly..

Last August my grandma passed away in at home hospice. I was one of her primary caretakers. I understand both perspectives here of the old people. However she should NOT have been left alone with him. They are both mentally unstable and having them together with clear signs of resentment, fear, and aggressive language like this was an incorrect call. One of them should have been removed. I understand you should not go against the wishes of the woman on bed rest and remove her because that is where she chose to pass, however they should have assigned an overnight and a day nurse to watch over her instead of that man. With him threatening multiple times she should not have been left like that. He was very clear in being unable to continue her care both physically and mentally. He is her power of attorney, he should be able to put her back into a facility with or without her permission. Even if it's against her wishes, remaining there would only add suffering to her condition.

If someone doesn't have a LOT of patience then they need to seek out professionals who are better equipped. Sad thing is that the cost of that type of care is more than what a lot can handle. This is sad even with 20/20 hindsight. Is the simple fact that two old people should not have been saddled together to take care of one another when they both cannot take care of themselves. People already don't treat old people like they're grown ass adults. So why would you then let two people everyone doesnt consider adults anymore. And allow them to stay in a house by themsleves with 0 help. This also plays the part into why the cops didnt believe the couple. Old people are treated poorly and not looked at as people anymore. So of course they didnt take the threat seriously like kenji said they are old who would have thought the old guy would do it. But we have to believe old folks when they talk.
Its sad she wanted to stay in her home but that clearly was not an option anymore. Henry Although what he did was Unexcusable Is a sad situation a lot of people find themselves in. I agree with Kenji that hindsight makes this seem a lot more clear than it would’ve been in the moment. Additionally, while we view the video knowing the outcome, it also began with a quick preview of various moments that could be interpreted heinously with red subtitles. While the edits are meant to highlight the hindsight concerns, edits are also capable of re-framing situations for viewers. I think the most evident in-the-moment red flag was probably Juneanne mentioning that he’s made death threats before, so that should have been questioned further. We’re limited also in not knowing how many of the 911 call details were given to officers (as that gave a much more clear initial concern) because, while the operator seemed to pick up on the danger Juneanne felt, they also dropped the call on her.
From what the neighbors said about Henry caring about her, seeing the state he was in afterwards (the hysterics, confessing, uncertainty of what he did, mood swings), and being aware that he mentioned to the officers that he didn’t really sleep for 4 days, I can see this tragic outcome potentially being related to both his sleep deprivation and Henry being at his limit. Your brain needs rest to function well, so going without sleep can temporarily result in serious psychological problems (hallucinations, increased irritability, etc). His dialogue with the police afterwards also makes it seem like he’s struggling to behave how he wants to. Given that she was meant to be in hospice care, he probably shouldn’t have been left as her sole caretaker (like the first officers and the son-in-law said), as that appears to have largely contributed to his breaking point. I don’t want to excuse the outcome, just looking for possible explanations of what went wrong

I get what kenji is saying and from a civilian view point it does make sense but a lot of officers especially ones that respond to dv calls are usually trained to separate the parties if they are able and talk to them separately in case of abuse

I feel that she felt she 20:15 was going to die. Her asking about guards to protect her, the i want to leave etc... are obvious. But asking about guards is not some woman who would just want to be free or losing her mind. She wants protection. It shows how the police treats women who have a violent husband.
I personally went through an abusive relationship. She is sorry to them instead of insisting. Nobody is to be trusted much about protecting you.

(lemme go on a quick rant right quick): honestly I would've stayed, usually when people ask me to stay with them i will happily do that (im a lonely person so), especially if its a senior.
I'm someone who always visits my senior neighbors to mow their lawn, sweep their floor, dust, ect. i cant stand the idea of something like this happening, and im not a soft person i hate people 💀💀(but as the saying goes: 'you have to respect your elders')

so many things could have fixed this, one, better training for cops to not let their bias get in the way. the second they show bias against gender, race, or sexuality they don't become a cop. Even colleges state how important it is to NEVER be bias. If the cops weren't bias with "oh that is just how women are" they would have gotten her out of there. two, free or cheaper healthcare. sure we have the best healthcare but what the hell is the point if most of the population refuses or can't use it cause of how expensive it is. if the healthcare cost was better then it would have been easier for her to not be there. three, mental checks people. if this old man had been checked for a mental health test they would have deemed him unfit to take care of his wife. I get there is old couples that want to take care of each other but you can't do that if your brain is rotting mentally and psychically. This country has failed to take science, health, and psychology seriously. The fact that a internet comment has to state this and not the government shows how broken everything truly is.

The thing is the moment he kept making death threats towards her my red flags would be going off and I’d definitely separate them. You have to have the mindset for any aged couple that they could do something to each other. No matter how they look.

I won't lie i love "the ol' ball 'n chain" joke banter between elderly couples. So I probably wouldn't have blinked an eye and laugh, too.
However, once granny starts begging me to stay, I would've started having goosebumps. Then gramps, "yeah, we're fine til I kill her! Oh, you didn't hear that didja? I said I'll kill ya!" Would have set off my alarm bells.

I don't think I have ever cried so much watching a true crime video, like kenji is fr right when he said like we know what's gonna happen because we are literally watching the video but like listening to her tell them not to leave and how the old dude is like minimising everything she is saying as he is looming over her bed is so sad, also yeah like old people be saying some random ass shit but like I still feel like the officers should've at least talked to them privately because she said she didn't feel safe and was clearly sacred but idk man like its terrible for this to happen in the first place but just hope that everyone can learn from this yanno
