    I'm pasting over this explanation I provided to C.W. Lemoine (Mover) in his video on the same subject. He had the decency to pin it. We'll see how it goes here.
    So... what happened here is that a few years back AVIC (the Chinese aircraft manufacturing giant) sponsored a sci-fi universe called "South Heaven Gate (Nantianmen) Project". In this universe's backstory, the Nantianmen Project is a secret AVIC development project for very advanced combat aircraft, one of which is the Baidi (White Emperor) Type B portrayed this year in model form outside the main hall in the Zhuhai airshow.
    Cue in a bunch of clueless non-Chinese journalists who got fed the description that, yes, Nantianmen Project is an actual AVIC project in real life and here's the (sci-fi universe) description of what it is and what that thing displayed prominently outside is. Boom! 6th generation Chinese fighter.
    Add also that China's fighter generation numbering is always one behind that of the US (so F-35, F-22, and J-20 all count as 4th-gen in the Chinese system) and no one realized that a Chinese "6th generation fighter" means a 7th-gen wunderwaffe from the 2050s in the Nantianmen Project backstory.
    So what is Nantianmen Project's backstory? Well, in the near future, an alien unmanned probe found Earth leading to an invasion by an alien drone armada. The humans banded up and repelled this, but after 30 years of defending they got tired and tried launching a counterattack. This failed miserably and now everyone has to figure out how to stay alive. Enter AVIC to the rescue! As one of the few intact MICs surviving, AVIC's secret Nantianmen Project to develop 7th (6th in the Chinese system) generation fighters was put into production and a bunch of Ace-Combat-inspired superplanes start defending humanity.
    The Baidi model itself has a screen inside the cockpit that plays a simulation movie if you enter it, although reporters are prohibited from recording the copyrighted content. It's a cool kids attraction. Nantianmen Project was sponsored by AVIC to interest kids in the aviation career path.
    Here's a Chinese video with subtitles explaining the same.

    You've been able to buy Baidi and Xuannu models from hobby shops for a few years.

  • @DIREWOLFx75
    @DIREWOLFx75 2 дня назад +10

    Yes, it's fictional, buuut, they're using it as a PR-stunt in BOTH directions, promoting both the fiction and AVIC, and having it there also as a representation model of future possibilities and prospects.
    So it's completely fake except to the degree that it isn't.
    AVIC needed "a futuristic looking model/mockup", and yay, this one was already available, perfect.
    Also, unless i misrecall, when China talks about 6th gen, they are referring to what USA calls 7th generation.
    Which is why it didn't matter to AVIC if the model was completely unrealistic, it's there as a placeholder that may or may not have features under consideration.

    Minor correction to a text box:
    At hypersonic speed you only want the nose to be blunt if your speed results in a mach cone which is unrealistically narrow. At mach 5 through potentially 8 or so, you want it "pointy" (actually VERY pointy, more pointy the faster you're intending to go). When you get to a speed where the angle of the mach cone cannot be kept off the skin of the fuselage without making the fuselage "unreasonably pointy", then you want to switch to a blunt nose with ablative or heat tiles (a la space shuttle). Note that missiles and proposed aircraft in the single-digit hypersonic mach range are all pointy. While hypersonic vehicles with more space-faring velocities are all blunt. It's more ideal to be pointy, but beyond a certain speed you run into the issue of designing a "needle" shaped aircraft with questionable structural rigidity and no useful internal volume, so you gotta switch to blunt and heat-shields then.
    None of which saves this chinese mock-up from being anything other than a life-size anime mecha-toy made of plywood. Which is fine as long as it's "just for fun". Of course there will be 7 figures worth of internet commenters who will think otherwise...

    • @Millennium7HistoryTech
      @Millennium7HistoryTech  2 дня назад +2

      Correct, it gets pointy till it doesn't. In this case, it was supposed to be for space operations so it should be blunt.

    "White Emperor" or 白帝, is part of a famous Chinese poem by one of the greatest poets in history, Li Bai. It is a fortress in a mountain. It is described by Li Bai as a town surrounded by colorful clouds. So by the naming, the 6th gen fighter model you see on display is actually the colorful clouds. The real thing is shrouded in the clouds and therefore, stealth. I guess that it is a humor only known by those who can make the connection.

      The Chinese aren't dumb, just technologically handicapped. Reverse engineering is not going to save them this time due to the fact that they don't have any Russian 5th gens on hand to strip down and copy.
      In (2018?) IAF SU30MKi's loitering over Sikkim detected J20s beyond the border even managing a brief weapons grade track according to a friend of mine who works as a maintainer in the IAF.
      It's understandable, as this is their first real home made jet ( not really, since it's engines and avionics are copied off lesser fighters ). But creating a 6th gen aircraft? Naw. Not unless they manage to cop a SU57.

    So obviously a movie prop. A "stealth" fighter with compressors 100% exposed, not to mention the intakes and the compressors are a totally miss matched in size. It's kinda funny that they put this out there and also funny just how much attention it got. The glassless cockpit looks cool.

    Yeah...what you say make total sense...I saw it on another channel the other day and it was hilarious to say the least. Looks something the Iranians would design though 😂😂😂

      exactly lots of people are missing the point, the world needs more laughs and this is certainly a cool looking plane, it doesn't matter if its real or not or if china are trying to accomplish something with it.

    Is there any deisgn pros of not using modern looking or sci fi jet deisgns ?
    i mean if the material which is coated to reflect or absorb the jet radar
    I mean whats stopping jets to look cool while being stealthy

    I sometimes wonder how much can be learned by their listening to critiques like this? It would be a vague lead, perhaps, but is it an inadvertent information stream?

    It would be good if someone took a photo of the info sign at the exhibit, spoke to the people manning the exhibit or a label in a map of the exhibits. Was there an official website with info?? I bet this was super easy to prove as a prop from a sci-fi there for fans of a popular fiction

    That looks suspiciously like the ADF1 Falkon from the Ace Combat 2, way back from '97.
    Dunno about the book mentioned, but if it's more recent, the design as stolen. The Falkon had am enclosed cockpit because it was a UAV, and no way it could actually fly if built in real life.

    It's like a Chinese designer saw a science fiction AI generated design (maybe in some movie or in deviant art or something), got an idea, COPIED and modified the design, presented it to some relevant authority, the authority is impressed, they then proceeded with a mock up to impress the world. But hey, it's a nice mock up.

    The Sci-Fi-ghter looks very much a mixture of Firefox, Sukhoi Su-33, Robotech's VF-1 Valkyrie, Monogram's F-19, & the Northrop YF-23, and some old IL2 1946 SAS Mod Super Space Fighter project aircrafts.
    Too small a craft. for any reality of the actual industrial capabilities PRC has the ability to make, with the many advanced technologies they are unable to master or produce.
