I debated trying something new as I ease my 4 1/2 year old into school. I ended up just going with what I did with my first 2 because it worked so well for them: Rod & Staff. It’s super simple and easy to follow, no big teachers manual to try and follow.😆
Today was our first day with it and she seemed to enjoy it! ☺️

Feels like we had a similar year re: reading! It’s been a struggle since March with our Science of Reading Program. Added TGTB, still felt like pulling teeth. Did an assessment with my kid & decided on a good summer break to relieve the pressure before we dive back in the new school year. We shall see 😅

It does sound like we have had similar struggles! It has been an adjustment since this child is so different than my middle daughter and even my oldest who both picked up reading so easily. Great idea to take a good break and pick it back up later. I'm hoping to make this summer more of a lifestyle of reading with her and it just gets easier. We shall see.

In Kindergarten, we used All About Reading, Explode the Code, Math U See Primer and Apologia Astronomy. 😊 Thanks for sharing!

When teaching letters before the child writes, use sand paper letters. CUT LETTERS OUT OF SANDPAPER AND TEACH STROKE ORDER WITH THESE LETTERS. They will not write letters backwardm because they will learn by touch.
