I just found your channel and I’m hooked! I see these videos were made about 4 years ago and I’m hoping that you could post more. I just love the way you explain things and show the important steps. My fingers are crossed that you see my comment and it encourages you to create new videos. I’ll keep watching in case you do.😃🤞🏻
Yes!! I have been pondering how to do this without all the papers. I had gotten as far as using heavy starch, but I hadn't thought to put the plastic on the RIGHT side and fold the seam allowance UNDER! I was stuck on the habit of folding around a shape. I am going to try this on my current project tomorrow!
Oh my! This is so brilliant!!! I bought a bunch of acrylic templates and thought how can I do epp without making tons of papers!!!??? Omg I’m so happy!
Genius! You can also use the regular paper pieces with this method but not have to use a thousand of them if you don't want to use plastic. I'm working on a grandmother's flower garden and I'm going to try this tonight! Thanks.
I have recently been bit by EPP hexies bug, but wasn't sure how to go about it. But when I found your video using this unique glue basting method, which is BRILLIANT by the way, it is now the ONLY method I use. I have a question though. Do you only machine sew all your hexies or do you ever hand sew them as well? Since you've come up with this brilliant method of glue basting, I was wondering if you have another unique method of machine and/or hand sewing them. Would you consider making a video in English on how you sew hexies together...pretty please.
I second that request. I love the idea of this, but I hand piece the epp and don't use a machine so i would love to see how you machine piece them. Thank you. Hugs,
I love the idea of making your own spray starch! I'm asthmatic and aerosol sprays trigger asthma attacks for me so I avoid them like the plague, so I haven't used spray starch in forever but now I will be able to. Thank you so much for this whole video!!
This is brilliant!!! Ive wanted to try EPP, but didnt want to have to remove all those papers, you have inspired me to give it a try (your way). Could you tell me how you make your starch? Thank You for sharing your time, and your talent with all of us.
This is genius!!! I have been using fusible interfacing in an attempt to replicate hexiforms, but I have dealt with paper too and I really dislike the paper method. I think this would be a great option, plus is reusable! I don’t have a special ruler for EPP so what I’m thinking about is to use those ye-olde plastic sheets you used in the 90s for projectors that you can put into inkjet printers (they still sell those, but I think there’s also shrink plastic available for printers) and print them directly on the plastic, that way I can get accurate shapes without templates. There’s lots of free printables for EPP, so the sky is truly the limit.
Another way to avoid papers that I have worked out myself - back the fabric with bondaweb, a light two sided vilene type product (this has different names in different countries). Peel off the paper backing completely when it has attached to the fabric. The fabric then looks a little glossy on the back and very slightly thicker. Cut your inner shapes from another fabric, maybe a simple white or something pre shrunk. Then pin the inner shape inside, against the shiny surface of the outer shape, cut from the bondawebbed fabric. Pin the outer edges around the shapes as usual, without tacking (basting). Very carefully press the edges onto the inner shape and the inner shape onto the decorative fabric. This makes a slightly thicker, finished hexagon with no papers to remove. If you use a very light fabric to start with, such as Liberty tana lawn, the finished shapes are still very light and the fabric is easier to work with than it would be if used over papers. Don't forget, you can also use plain fabric for the shapes and decorate them yourself either before or after cutting out, using fabric paints, or even machine or hand stitching. I tend to machine wildly with machine embroidery thread over a piece of fabric with bondawebbed backing - before cutting out the hexagons (use a small stitch, so they won't unravel when the shapes cut out, but if they do, it adds to the creative effect). Don't think you have to stick to conventional ways of doing things, try what feels right for you, some ideas will work, some won't but that is how we all grow in creativity!
I had a thought. How well does this work with hand quilting? I am picturing having to wash at least some of the starch out first. If so, does that mean I would have to spend a year pressing seam allowances back down on the finished top before putting the layers together (YUCK.), or else basting the layers, then ever-so-gently washing the whole thing before quilting? 😬
I am very glad you liked it. There will be more videos. Every Saturday a new one in german and every so often an english one. I am focussing a bit more on german because there is not that many german sewing content on here
I have been thinking along similar lines. I am going to try your way. The only thing I don’t know is how to make my own starch. Can you share that part?
Hi what size is the pink plastic template you used? Also what exactly is shrink plastic? is it template plastic from a craft shop? And what size is your homemade plastic hexi? Looks like 1.5"
Sooo many questions here: 1. what type of glue are you using to glue the copy on the template? 2. What kind of shrink plastic(?) Feel free to answer in German if that is better for you/your channel. Thank you so much! ~transplantedingermany
Since you are folding to the back why do you need a plastic template? Wouldn't the Tula Pink template be enough if washed off? Great video..just thinking of skipping a step. LOL
I have a local Quilt store in germany where I shop at and whenever I fly to the states I order stuff online beforehand and bring a suitcase full of fabric back home with me :)
@@M0M0F2P0Ms The Fabric designer is Tula Pink. She is a bit harder to find in California I found when I was there a few years ago. You can find her on fatquartershop.com

well it depends. if you hate fiddling with paper this method is good. if you dont mind. use the paper :) this method is however great for fussy cutting

interesting name idea :)

Wow! I'm blown away by the genius of this method. Maybe I will finish the EPP quilt. Thank you!
thank you :) go finish it
What a great idea ! Thankyou
you're welcome
I have not started epp yet, because I hate the paper ripping out. I love love love your method. Can't wait to try it!!!!
I sometimes do with and sometimes without. especially when fussy cutting is not required I tend to use paper
Thank you from New York
you're welcome :)

So cool. I have wanted to do EPP but have a hard time justifying the cost of the paper pieces. This makes way more since.
glad to have helped :)
"That isn't fun and I like fun" I feel that deeply, I turn up having paper cuts each time and this should help me a lot :) thanks!

Fantastic video. How do you make your own spray starch
I made a video about that. just check it out ;)

Hexiform, is another way but it's already pre-cut into hexagons etc but you need to add glue to it.

this is AMAZING. do you have a link to the plastic you use?
just use any sheet of plastic that you can cut :)
Try using flexible kitchen cutting mats from The Dollar store.
My next project, I will try your way :) danke!
It particularly makes sense when fussy cutting. with solids i just use paper :)
Love this method 😍
thanks
I can’t wait to try this
Did you try already? did you like it?
Could you tell me what designer and line that tiger fabric is from
That is Tula Pink Eden. sadly it is out of print. ou might find it at a premium on etsy
How cool. Thanks.
Thank you

Hi what size is the pink plastic template you used? Also what exactly is shrink plastic? is it template plastic from a craft shop? And what size is your homemade plastic hexi? Looks like 1.5"
I use the tulas bloomers templates. shrink plastic is just what I had in the house. template plastic should fork fine
How do you make your own startch?
I made a video on that. look in my video library
Hi. What do you use to make your own starch? I think your method is very good
I have a video about that ruclips.net/video/LpvZLeTzJ-E/видео.html
Is so fantastic thanks ❤️
thank you
Love this method!! Do you find it hard to then judge where your stitches go? I often use the card as my guide on how ‘deep’ to put the stitches.
Louise AH - I usually stitch 1-3 threads deep into the fabric fold. Works just fine :)
Thank you!!

Sooo many questions here: 1. what type of glue are you using to glue the copy on the template? 2. What kind of shrink plastic(?) Feel free to answer in German if that is better for you/your channel. Thank you so much! ~transplantedingermany
I use sewline glue. I used shrinc plastic exclusively because I had it on hand. If you are buying supply, buy template plastic.
Since you are folding to the back why do you need a plastic template? Wouldn't the Tula Pink template be enough if washed off? Great video..just thinking of skipping a step. LOL
The Tula templates are a bit thick. But if it works for you, go for it
😱 so good!
thank you
What kind of plastic do you have. I found heated shrink plastic please help thank you
hi, literally any piece of plastic that is sturdy but you can still cut with scissors is fine
