He left a lot of the important stuff in this heritability out of the discussion and moved on. It is a very tricky subject and his response is basically anything is achievable with ambition, don't be held back my scores on a cognitive or psychometric test.
While that can be true, if an individual lacks the right stuff, they will get no where far and definitely not within their lifetime.
Outliers speaking on the struggles of the normal is not representative of the individuals he speculates on and gives future forecasts on their ceiling or potential.
In a way, this is survivorship bias with an optimistic outlook.

Genius, no. We shouldn’t use words that are not fitting as they undermine the level of true genius. ( Neil has even said this on many occasions)

@@mohammadwasilliterate8037 What do you mean how do you debunk guys like Tyson? Have you never been through any course at university?
Whenever you want to fact-check a claim, you write down the claim as a topic, break down the topic into logical points, and then conduct research on those points.
The research done is not in the form of simply "googling" the topic. You can make use of peer-reviewed articles and studies, books from credible and qualified authors, and communicating with with qualified subject-matter experts (either though email, phone call, or physical interview).
This process is usually taught at pre-masters level of study. What I just explained is merely the minimum required to make a credible fact checking process (It will give credibility to you if you claim that what Tyson said is BS), but you can make it even more elaborate if you wish.

Yeah but thats not how humans work, all of the things that lead to success come from inherited traits either through genetics or through learned behaviors. As long as there are shitty people with shitty genetics there will be shitty outcomes, give people all the freedom in the world and its not going to change that.

Not exactly. He stresses that intelligence tests being posited as a measure of anything other than the skills needed to pass that specific test is an offense to the infinite potential and variety of human beings. Take the analogy of his dad as a runner. His body didn’t conform to the gym coach’s vision of the ideal runner. But clearly he had a strong body and a strong will, and achieved anyways. He definitely doesn’t discount genetics, he’s just saying human potential can’t be measured accurately by some puny test.

@@devinb9985 The thing about so called bad genetics is that there is opportunity if you courageously accept the burden of having to work harder than others. Many folks will curse existence and wallow in self pity at the idea that a gifted person can get the same results with half or even no work. However the upside is that you know how to work hard, you mind can take more pressure, you are tougher and to the gifted people who double down on working hard? You just have to have enough humility to give it up to them. It's not a bad thing that you have people like Elon Musk doing 100 hour work weeks. Bad genetics are not really that wide an issue, things like low functioning autism, hereditary diseases, males who are 4 foot tall etc...fair enough...but so much of our genetics are useful in some way or another since these traits were subject to the trial and error of 3 billion years of the earths existence.

Will HE and his 👪 be first in line for the Bill Gates sponsored MANDATORY vaccine complete with RFID? More people die EVERY year of regular flu. Do we shut the world down for that? This NOVEL(yeah it's novel alright) Covid 19 Virus has never been isolated. The medical establishment in the West is merely copying what the Chinese did, and testing for the presence of a genetic marker in lung fluid. NOT looking for the virus by that name because it doesn't exist. Hospitals are cooking the books on orders from above. If a patient comes in with ANY respiratory problems or flu-like symptoms they are tested for the presence of this genetic marker. Then if they subsequently die of ANY cause, the death certificate is marked as a death due to COVID 19. You know, that pesky and extremely NOVEL virus that HAS NEVER BEEN ISOLATED! You had best start looking into this and stop feeding on the lies that are force fed to you 24-7 by the mainstream media. And if you can break away from watching CNN, MSNBC and all the other mainstream media who are the propaganda arm of the government, maybe you might want to look into Santa's story, as he's a right jolly old elf don't ya know. His isn't smarter than me. I have no degrees and I know more about the stars than he ever will. I know who made them and how He made them. Is he the kind of scientist that thinks boys can be girls? Does he believe that the earth is being over heated due to mankinds use of unclean energy? Is he the kind of scientist who believes our extremely sophisticated multi layered earth covered in water and life with its own multi layered atmosphere and its own moon and sun is the result of an explosion in cold DEAD space 14.7 billion years ago? If so, what makes him so smart? Can he make high end audio equipment? Can he change the oil in his own car, does he even have a car, can he build a house, cut down a tree, farm the land, stop coyotes from eating chickens, how is he with a sword, firearm, his hands and feet? Besides going on radio shows and acting like he actually knows something that no one could possibly know, what makes him, "smart"?

PEOPLE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT COVID VIRUS IS AIRBORN. So yeah wash your hands, BUT DONT THINK THATS THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN GET IT.
If someone coughs it travels up to 6 METERS (almost 20 feet!) AND IT REMAINS ALIVE IN THE AIR FOR 10 MINUTES OR MORE.
So if you walked through the same room as someone who coughed 10 minutes ago, you can get it.
WASH YOUR HANDS YES, but also WEAR A FACE MASK AND GOGGLES, AND SPRAY YOURSELF WITH 70% ISOPROPYL BEFORE YOU GO IN YOUR HOUSE
actually just be aware that the reality is you probably wont be able to avoid it. The calculations predict more than 60% of the entire population of the world is going to contract this coronavirus
thats means more likely that you WILL get it, then not

I had a similar experience with Calculus:
When I was in second year in High School (starting two-dimensional analytic geometry) I went to visit my brother at the University, because I wanted to look how a day looked like at Engineering School. I went to a Calculus III class and I was so traumatized that I almost decided against going to any career with math. I thought "No way I can learn that much math in just 3 years"
Last year in High School I took Calculus I and I didn't just got a passing grade. I loved it. I went to Engineering School at the University.
(Note: In my country, you don't roam among multiple subjects before choosing a major like in the US. If you want to study Engineering, go to straight to the Engineering school when you enroll in the University, if you want to be an accountant, you enroll to Administration/Accounting School immediately and so on, so you have to choose early and that was one of the reasons I was visiting the University, to figure out what I wanted to study)

that can happen in American schools. but it happens to the most....."elite" of us.
The "wandering around" is usually based on the fact that those people NEED those classes to better help or understand. Or that THEY THEMSELVES don't KNOW what they want to do. They just kinda have a couple of ideas. So they spread out enough to cover the basics of both or more subject matters

“You don’t believe in evolution”Evolution, how? Viruses don’t prove evolution too long to explain.
All in all this was a great interview Sway and Neil.
Sway said something in the beginning that I always believed: most “smart people” are quoting the works/ideas of others that have somehow formed their opinion. They may be more well read but that doesn’t mean they are any smarter than you and I, they just have more from which they may quote. Smart and informed are different.
