    I did the same thing. 1 mod i would recommend is to take a shot glass and work it down the center of the down spout slowly rolling it back and forth to create a flair at the top of the down spout like the blue bowl has. it helps to keep all the fines in without being sucked out at higher speeds of water flow

    • @Tom-yc8jv

      A rubber band around the top is much easier and does the same thing.

    • @mikeD76
      @mikeD76 3 года назад +1

      @@Tom-yc8jv I would imagine that would wear out over time from the abrasiveness of the media in the bowl. I know it's trivial it's just a rubber band but 2 minutes and a shot glass and you get a flare that's permanent

    I just saw your video and one thing I saw a guy do with his actual blue bucket is he created a mat out of silicone in the bottom of the bucket about 1/4" thick and it made the gold stick to the bottom of the bucket even with the water moving fast.
    Edit: bowl not bucket.

      I don’t see any reason it wouldn’t work. May have to clean out more but gold is so heavy it’s hard to mess it up. As long as your leaving what’s in the pan alone between clean outs it should be ok. I can full blast this thing and the gold still won’t go over the cone.

      I used a 4 1/2" grinder with a "type 27" . 045 cut off wheel.
      If you're careful (using just enough wheel to penetrate the cut) you can use the top of bowl as a guide and slide around it pretty easily.
      Then I used a rasp inside and a flat file outside to make it smooth.
      Sandpaper or a fingernail file will also suffice.

    guys just buy a blue bowl and be happier. i got mine for like 60 bux brand new. get it without the extra stuff and use your own pump. youll spend more trying to make your own with less results.
    the blue bowl is almost impossible to lose gold if used properly.
    it is also far from the best tool to use depending on the material too.
    so instead of spending time money and energy for something thats not as good buy the real thing or buy something better.
    ive made my own equip too and their some of the best functioning things i have. but my next piece of equipment will be purchased. its tried and true results and for only a little more than the cost of materials i can have the whole machine with no flaws. its not worth the time in this case.

      Put a link up of your $60 dollar blue bowl. When this video was made they retailed for almost $300.

      @@pacificnorthwestprospector5039 no you just dont do your research here are 2 examples 2 years after i purchased maybe like 1.5 years but point still stand. like i said you get it without all the extra crap. and you literally cant make a better one for less. yeah you could spend in some peoples cases valuable man hours making your own. but when one hour outweighs the cost of the product or a replacement when it wears out. then you keep being productive.
      dont combat people trying to help. im sharing useful info for people who need to know. we can act our age our shoe size or we can lie on our backs and see whose taller. i have yet to lose on the last one but we cant win them all. im here to tell you a cake pan for somewhere around 30-35 dollars and tools to mod and time and risk of losing fingers or limbs like some folks that shouldnt be using tools.
      literally a few more dollars for real r and d and proven results is worth it. but
      my next piece of equipment will cost much less. do i want to build my own version like i usually do yes. but single digit losses and i dont have to babysit it yeah worth every penny. i have my own things that are of my design that make it 10x more effective and guess what. i can run alot of material in an hour while working that way. vs staring at a bowl of water that makes me pee more than anything. the cake pan is just gonna make you hungry.

    • @pacificnorthwestprospector5039
      @pacificnorthwestprospector5039  8 лет назад

      I used a pipe cutter and a file for the center, sorry should of showed it. As for the hole in the side I used a drill bit and a piece of wooden dowel. Drilled the hole to match the hose diameter and used the wooden dowel to bend the whole to the right angle. Good luck hope that helps!

      might want to add a pvc coupling on top of the cut cone to assure a level and clean exit hole, then you don't have to be so careful cutting the cone.

      I think what Heinz means is that cake tins are usually made from tin and tin will eventually rust in water. So plastic is better. Try finding a plastic bowl and a plastic funnel that has a rounded sides. Cut the funnel to size and cut a hole in the plastic bowl to size. Invert the funnel and glue together with clear silicon glue.
