  • This is an extremely thorough review of the Lakland 55-01 bass guitar - It's everything you would want to know about this bass. The intent of this video is to give plenty of information to potential buyers so they are informed before making a buying decision. I spend a lot of time telling everything I can about the bass as an owner of the instrument.
I purchased this bass with my own money and have no affiliation with Lakland. However, I did speak with a Lakland representative during the editing process to confirm some of the information in the video. My thanks to Lakland for taking the time to speak with me and answer my questions.
While there is a lot of detailed discussion about this Lakland bass guitar in the video, there are also seven sound clips used during the video. Four of these sound clips are me playing to worship chord progressions and three are original pieces created for this review. As typical of me, musical tidbits I write have stupid working titles until they transform into a real song (if they do). So, on that note, "Bass Face 5000", "Not a Song, But a Song", and "Slip N' Slide" copyright 2023 by Brent Haeseker and Worship Blender.

I’ve been considering this bass for a while! My 2 mains right now are my 73 Jazz (all original) and my 5 string Peavey Cirrus which to me is the most underrated bass’s of all time lol. What seems great to about the Skyline is the versatility of tone. Thanks for the review brother

This is the video that led me to your channel. I think you and I would become friends if we ever met! Awesome content and right up my alley. Last few years my main rig is the Reverend Dub King, swapped neck pickup for classic Bart which is almost always soloed. Sandowsky flatwounds (which don’t work for feeding through the body) and after a couple years were dulled enough I stopped using a mute in church. There’s an adjustment cause it’s not designed for ergonomics but I LOVE the neck! With the amount of body beyond the bridge it doesn’t feel like a toy the way other 30” can (Fender) or neck dive (Gibson). Bonus-sounds awesome in drop D!
Looking at 5 strings-Lakland, Yamaha BB and Warwick Idolmaker are my top 3 contenders…don’t care for the name Idolmaker, maybe something was lost in translation.

I am always happy to make more friends! I have been wanting to try out a Reverend for awhile now, everyone that has one seems to love them. I am a big fan of the Yamaha BB series - both the 235 and the 735 models, depending on my current budget, lol. However, I'm pretty sold on the Lakland. I'd just love to get a P/J bass back in my lineup.

Great in-depth look at this awesome bass! I'll always have a soft-spot for Laklands, and I think this one is pretty much a perfect match for you and your sound/application. The MK1 pickups sound very clean, modern and unobtrusive. And you get the killer b string that's also important and great to have for that kind of music. Even though the 55-01 and the 55-02 look very similar, they sound very different: The 55-02 gets much closer to vintage Fender and Music Man sounds, but even though it sounds more modern than those, it won't produce that super clean Hi-Fi sound. Still, my choice would be the 55-02, it fits my style better. I'd even wish it had a passive tone blend. My current main bass is also an MM/J-equipped Jazz Bass variant, a Clover Apeiron H.5, MiG. But it's 34" and not as comfortable and unique being yet another take on the Jazz Bass. I love it, but if it would ever break or be stolen, I'd get a Lakland 55-02. After all, it's the bass that really made MM/J popular, and that's just the best pickup combination for me. Btw., for Hi-Fi sounds, my pick would probably be a Dingwall, so right between your Lakland and your Ibanez 😉But then it's also about what you can afford, and both your Lakland 55-01 and your Ibanez are really hard to beat in terms of price/performance!

Thank you for your feedback! I don't think I could have said things better than you did! I do indeed to upgrade the 55-01 at some point to a John East preamp with passive option, but otherwise, really happy with the bass.

Good info on Shoreline vs. Skyline Blender.

Great informative video! I actually watched the whole thing in one sitting. I had a 55-01/ maple fingerboard in the natural finish. I upgraded it to US bart pickups and pre......and then sold it like a dummy. My brother has one like yours with the same US bart pickups and pre that i had. I'm considering getting another one or 55-02. I also thought the weak point of this bass was the preamp. Im looking forward to the upgrade video. You actually sounded great with everything stock. Great job again!

Thank you for the kind feedback and for sitting through almost an hour of footage! I think a 55-01, 55-02 and a DJ5 (or 55-60) would make a killer arsenal that covers all ground.

Weird. I just bought a 55-01 with maple fingerboard in natural finish with upgraded pups and preamp off reverb. Maybe it's your old bass! Was it a 2008?

Thank you for the feedback and instruction on how to say Pau Ferro - that has stumped me for decades! While I'm completely happy with the pickups I could see myself experimenting with other pickups and the Nords would definitely be on my short list.

Thanks i have this bass and fell in love with the Bart sound and its burpy mid sound. The pickups don't get a lot of love [mk-1] as not as dynamic as they could be. I agree on the preamp not being the best. I also struggle to EQ the bass and cant really find a sweet spot sometimes.

I was hard on the preamp, and still think it is the weakest link on the bass, but it has been proving to be pretty flexible regardless. The Barts I really dig.

Good video! I’ve emailed Brian as well and he’s always replied to me in a good time!! Trying to get a roasted neck for my black 5502 they can’t do it for me yet but they do have black bridges we can buy. I’m on my 2nd black 5502 and it’s a dream bass!! I’ll never part ways with m Lakland ever!

I'm definitely a Lakland fan now. I think a roasted neck in satin finish would be the only improvement you could make to the playability of the instrument.

@@WorshipBlender i absolutely agree!! I’m so sad I can’t get a roasted neck on my black 5502, 😩 they need to make it a new standard on all finishes like ernie ball

I’m looking to add another bass to my arsenal. Based on the money I want to spend, I have it narrowed down to this and a Warwick RB corvette. Your thoughts?

Warwicks are nice but I have never owned one. Hopefully my video has given you enough info on the Lakland. If Warwick wants to send my a bass to review I'll be happy to compare!

I have a question, what’s wrong with your Fender? I understand it covers everything most bass players need.

    • @WorshipBlender
      @WorshipBlender  10 месяцев назад

Nothing technically wrong with my Fender. But I much prefer the feel of the neck on the Lakland. Both are flexible basses that can cover a lot of ground.
