Chopin's Etude Op. 10 No. 5. It's got the nickname 'Black Keys' for a reason, the right hand only plays on black keys! Although there have been some "piano hack" tutorials teaching non-piano players to sound like they actually know how to play the piano by only playing the black keys, it's crazy to hear how much harmonic and melodic interest a composer like Chopin can create from this limit. Hopefully this piece can brighten up your Monday ♥

Here's a fun fact for you: In b.66 there is actually an F written for the RH, making there ONE white right hand note written in the piece. In the original editions the falling thirds were placed in the left hand staff, and although it's currently written in for the RH, some pianists play this F with the left hand (as was done in this video).

This piece is so incredible to me because of the technique and harmony, but mainly, the way it uses arpeggios is so unique for the Romantic era. It almost reminds me of an arpeggiator on a modern synthesizer. Overall this piece evokes the same wonder as many of Chopin’s “happier” works but it also has this futuristic feeling that sets it apart.
