They also need to invest in synchronized traffic lights south of the bridge all the way through Westbank to the Connector. It seems every traffic light intersection is a red light. In general, despite the stated 80,000 capacity number, they shouldn't have shelved the second bridge as I would say it has reached capacity now at 60,000 vehicles now. Some articles have mentioned the Province won't revisit this until 2038 but they should start getting on it today. Kelowna will continue to have massive growth.
Great video, really loving this channel. Must be a lot of research involved but its super cool to learn new things about the places we grew up in. I will say your audio could use some polishing. Might need a pop filter if you dont have one and I've noticed little sounds that should be editted out. Keep up the good work!
Can anyone explain why the new bridge was built with 5 lanes, 3 westbound and 2 eastbound.? With my many trips over the bridge the traffic is always significantly backed up eastbound. I would guess the vehicle count would be similar both directions.
Is there a reason why one side has three lanes and the other one has two and a pedestrian lane? Pretty odd to have just two lanes going into the city especially since there’s a traffic light right when you get to other side?
i live in Kelowna, went under this bridge today. also whare did you find the footage of the ferries? im working on a video on Okanagan ships. i have been on the fintry queen as i was invited by the owner a year ago. amazing video and cant wait for more videos about Canadas best province!
Not a dig at your video by any means but now they really got fix the Kelowna sides traffic light situation I’ve been stuck in the east bound lane for a full hour and 45 min
Idiots made the decisions on the new bridge. 5 lanes? They needed more than that when it opened. It should have been at least 7 lanes, with one of the lanes as a zipper lane that could go in either direction.
To be fair, you could make the bridge 10 lanes, and you would still have the same problem. Nowhere for the volume of cars to go once they get off the bridge. Kelowna painted itself into a corner by building right up to the edge of the highway on both sides. No room to build over/underpasses now.
@@senpaigarr@senpaigarr They could have created two One-Way routes. This was proposed in the 1990s when my dad worked for the city but the decision makers could not see to the future. The same people also limited the size of the arena when it should have been closer to 10,000 seats for a growing market. Now decisions made will cost more money and create more construction disruption.
Making that 5th lane a zipper lane would make massive improvements to Kelowna. Something I've noticed about Kelowna is that traffic is only heavy during commute times, creating a zipper lane would help greatly.
The Okanagan is the fastest growing community in Canada and the government is looking at its feet for any expansion of major thoroughfares here. What a joke.

I’m liking the Ogopogo strike!! Love it
I had to put the Ogopogo somewhere in the video
Great footage of the old bridge, seems like eons ago now. Thanks for this!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Loving this content, keep up the good work.
Would love to get a history of the Riverview Hospital grounds in Coquitlam!
Thank you. Riverview is my next project! Stay tuned
Me too! Essendale history!
Some other good topics would include building the Rogers Pass highway in the 1960s, and the Coquihalla in the 1980's.
Coquihalla is in the works. I will definitely look at Rogers Pass
I liked this video on the Coquihalla ruclips.net/video/lOJa2H-m_IE/видео.htmlsi=cOrVOa6RBf14Qql3
These videos are outstanidng!
I felt at the time and still do that they should have kept & refurbished the old bridge and kept it for the additional capacity.
The times when Canada had many “firsts” in the world…
It used to be the place of opportunity and excitement. Where dreams and hard work would meet. Now it’s a shadow of its former glory.
keep these videos coming, loving them!!
Maybe you could do a video on the Alex Fraser bridge? That would be pretty cool. Love the videos!
Thank you! A video on the Alex Fraser Bridge is definitly planned.
Pretty cool video.

Thanks for the feedback. I notice it too after editing and uploading. I will look into upgrading my audio.

History of deltaport would be cool, or bc ferries.
Beautiful bridge...and yet, Kelowna still needs a second crossing.

Can you please mention how much the equivalent is todays money when you mention costs and tolls? It will help put things into perspective
my cousin had a psychotic break and beat the f*ck outta me on this bridge back in 2013 😭
This is cool. Who knew. But nobody knows the name of this bridge (outside of Kelowna). Call the video something like ‘Kelowna/Westbank bridge’
I disagree. I clicked just to find out which bridge it is.
