Agreed. I'm on my third week since the 5th metatarsal fracture repair surgery on my right foot. Sutures got removed but still have to wait another month till I get back on my feet for running. So depressed and sad now. Seth is such a strong motivator.

QD: I’ll admit that I struggle at times enjoying the process. I am super competitive. What keeps me training is having a race on the calendar. When there is a race in the foreseeable future, I have something to help drive that process. I tell myself to think about what I want to feel like on the starting line. That’s what makes me turn that doorknob. We got this DGR!

I absolutely love the process of training. The outcomes are great, but the process is so fulfilling and mentally stabilizing. I started for the wrong reasons when I was 18, lifting weights and doing my cardio to look better for my peers. As I got older, I could care less what others think and train for a healthy mental outlook and healthier physical body. That was honestly what improved my results more than anything else.

QOD: I am not a fan of late fall, winter, early spring training. I hate being cold or wet or both. There are days that I enjoy bopping around on quiet roads right after a winter storm, but it’s definitely a struggle for me to get pumped up for a training day when I have to layer up. Once I retire the plan is to move to a location where winter means maybe a light jacket or hoody lol

For those who don't know, I don't race. I'm an avid, non-competitive distance runner. I enjoy training, although not as much as I like to be out on the road in zed mode. I also enjoy the process itself. From figuring out the type of run I'm going to do, the route, the clothing, the tint of my sunglasses, I love it all. Also, I enjoy coming in after a run and filling out my running log. Sure, Garmin and Strava keep track of everything, but I've had my spreadsheet since 2011, and I love going back to look at some of the things I've written after my runs. I also track things that Strava doesn't, like what I wore and if it agreed with the temperature of the day.

QD: ABSOLUTELY!!! Results will come and go but the process is where the joy of the sport lies. From the breakthrough workouts that make you feel fitter than ever, to the life affirming long runs in sunshine or storms. It's the greatest sport in the world!

QOD When I was 20 (50 years ago) I was at a party and was a bit inebriated. I told a guy that I could jump onto the kitchen counter. He laughed. I got sideways to counter and went for it. I got my right foot onto the counter and pushed myself up. Mission accomplished. How high was the counter? I dunno. The kitchen counter in my apt. is 36".
I don't always love training; like this morning. It took me four or five miles running up South Tabletop Mountain until things seemed smooooth and I was gliding along. Finished with 13+ miles and then took a nap. Naps are gooood. Tomorrow, I will do 3.5 miles of walk/jog along Clear Creek, running on the yellow leaves. I'm already looking forward to it. And that's the way it should be.

QD: for most of my running life, I have run primarily because of my friends who also run. The social aspect is huge to me. But over the last 2 years I haven’t been able to find anyone in my town who wants to run even sort of like I am wanting to. Working hard to enjoy the process, and it isn’t fun every day, but I’m learning to love it! Stopped running with music so I don’t distract myself from the actual running!

QD: I do enjoy the process because I get to see grass and trees, the river, trails, animals and clouds... I often start reciting psalm 23 and I also talk to God while running. Nobody there to distract me. I often run into the sunset which I can never get tired of.

QOD: Embrace change, Believe in the Process, and do the work. Back in 2014 I went from running 30K a week to 70K in the space of 2 weeks for the preparation of my first marathon. I suffered a plantar fasciitis in the process and did not run the 5 weeks prior to the race. The most painful 3h 56 of my life but also the most memorable. Long story short I did 4 marathon in 18 months between 2014 and 2016. I ultimately got calves injuries and thoughts I would never run again. I eventually got to running again in 2019, every mile run brings a smile to my face because I am back to doing what I love. Happy to see you running again, you're a great ambassador for the sport and I really love the community you're building. Happy running!

It's like a broader metaphor for running. Focusing on each individual foot-strike versus the finish line. Its mental gold. Neuroscience studies this as well. Visualizing a major goal gets you started but it'll burn you out. Instead, focus on failure. i.e. how am I going to feel if I dont run today? How am I going to feel if I dont hit the PR? Let that light the fire.

QD: I enjoy the process of training when I find some stability in my progress. I've recently been struggling in my career, being down on my luck even when I work hard. In contrast, training is often a source of joy when I see incremental progress directly result from the effort I put into the process.

QD: I feel when I am training it is a balance between the struggle and the joy of it. I at times feel that I get too hard on myself, but I also find that the strive for improvement is what gets me through those hard days, the longs runs, the mile repeats. In the end, training becomes a place for me to unwind and just let my mind rest from day to day life.

Seth, I've been curious to hear your opinion on the caldera 6's. I honestly don't know what to make of them. They're comfortable and stable but they're not as soft and bouncy as I would like to be with their new loft V3 midsole. I honestly keep going back to the Nike Pegasus trail 4's. If you can get a chance to test the peg trail 4's. I highly recommend them and think they may be my favorite trail shoe of 2022. At first I thought they would just be my favorite road to trail shoe. However, they have exceeded my expectations on the trails and I don't think they can be beat in terms of comfort.
