You guys may want to remember that a higher painting skill results in a better promposal sign. I've seen this in other gameplay videos. So having some sort of faux art class would be a good idea. Your students can go there after school and try to get their painting skill up a bit, so that their promposal signs will be better, and they have a greater chance of being accepted.

Agreed, though I'd rather be able to put extras in any other world, Newcrest would be the perfect place for an additional school, but it would be nice if it had more cross-compatibility. What annoys me the most is that it took them this long to figure out how to make lots function like the school and the hot springs (in Snowy Escape) because I hate that we have to use the editing cheat to change those specialty lots like the dorms in Discover University, or the "school" in Realm of Magic, or the career lots in Get to Work. Like Kayla said, it's much easier to accidentally break the career lots. And of course, apartments have long been a pain to upload and replace because they don't even have an official status on the gallery; there are simple workarounds but it's annoying. These are all minor quibbles but it would be a quality of life improvement for players if they could amend some of these issues. I just hope whenever Sims 5 is released they've got this sort of thing sorted out.

heres how my high school worked: go to school, if u arrive early enough before class, breakfast might be available in the cafeteria. some students have "0 period" (started at 8 am? I never had one), then 1st period/class (or the start of school, 8:50 am). go through a few periods (each about 40 mins), then a short break, about 15 minutes. my schools break was never long enough to really do anything. then a few more periods, then lunch about 40 mins (cant remember), then the last periods. my school had 7 periods, and went from 8:50 to 2:50 (or so, i have since graduated so it could be different now).
my school was "outdoors", like walking between classes was always walking outside, but some are completely indoors. also, lockers weren't really mandatory and you had to ask for one if you wanted one haha. i imagine most schools aren't like this, but my school didn't have nearly enough lockers to accommodate all the students
also also, if you were late to class, you'd have to go get a late slip, so you'd have to walk all the way to the office and ask for a late slip and then walk all the way back to class, making yourself even more late! some teachers were super lame about this, and some didn't care much lol

Several classes were just teachers reciting the material and students were expected to write it all down for the entire lesson every lesson. The breaks were usually too short to do anything, except for a long one at noon which allowed students to get lunch, though you could only go into the mess hall if you were living at school or if you paid in advance for the entire year.
What was it like being homeschooled?

ik user Khaki gave you a rundown of how their school worked, but as so many high schools are different I'll write up how mine worked to give you another example, in case you're interested! I went to school in midwest america, 2013-2017 for context.
      Physical Layout:
The high school I went to is all one building and pretty much all one floor (exceptions being the auditorium and one of our gyms, which has an indoor track running the perimeter of the second floor). In terms of amenities, my school has rooms for band, choir, orchestra, art, and CAD; it has a pretty nice cafeteria that had one station serving a different meal each day, one station that always had pizza, and one station for subs/wraps that worked kinda like a Subway restaurant (you tell a cafeteria worker what you wanted and they'd put it together for you. It was super nice, my personal fav lunch option); it also has that two-story auditorium I mentioned with some other rooms for theater stuff (I wasn't involved so idk details), a decent size library with computers/printers for students to borrow and use, a "fitness center" with some workout machines like just a couple treadmills and ellipticals, a weight room, and 3 gyms. Two of the gyms are a lot older and smaller than the big shiny new third gym (not so new anymore I guess lol). This third really big gym is the one with the second floor indoor track. It's also the place where our pep rallies and other large gatherings are held since it's probably the only room that could fit the entire student body. The school also has a football field and baseball field I think, but I'm not really sure what other sports/athletic things it has. No pool for sure tho, I was on the swim team and we had to rent another school's pool for our practices and meets. Two student parking lots, one on each side of the building (East and West parking lots, East being closest to the Fine Arts side and West closest to the Athletics side). No assigned parking spots for any students, so there was no decorating of parking spots.
      Lockers/Hallway:
Every student had an assigned locker that you almost always shared with one other student. You had the opportunity to request to share a locker with a specific person, and if both people request each other then you'd definitely get it. Otherwise the assignments were random, but usually you'd get someone within your same year. Your assigned locker would change every school year. A lot of people would decorate their lockers, inside and out, with things like magnets, (easy to remove) stickers, and other things like that! Some schools don't let students carry their backpacks in the halls and into classrooms, but that was allowed and super normal in my school.
      School year:
My school year started first week of September and lasted until early/mid June (the exact date were different each year). We were on a trimester system, meaning that a school year was split into 3 equal terms and each term you'd have a different class schedule. This was nice because you got to take more classes/electives, but also was a little weird because second trimester had the long winter/xmas break right in the middle of it.
Daily schedule (I looked this part up bc it's been too long for me to remember lol):
In a school day, we would have 5 class periods. First period starts at 7:45am and goes until 8:59am. Six minutes of "passing time" to allow students to use the bathroom and get to their next class. This was not enough time if you needed to use the bathroom because there would always be a line. Second period starts at 9:05am and goes until 10:24am. This is where it gets a little wonky. There are two lunch periods you could be assigned to - first lunch or second lunch. First lunch runs 10:24am to 10:55am. Students with first lunch then have a six minute passing time before their third class, which goes 11:01am to 12:15pm. Students with second lunch instead have their third class running 10:30am to 11:44am, and then lunch 11:44am to 12:15pm. Everyone has another 6 min passing time before fourth period, which goes 12:21pm to 1:35pm. Another passing time, and then the fifth and final class is 1:41pm to 2:55pm. After school activities would start at various times after this, depending on the person organizing the activity.
I know this was a VERY detailed explanation of my school and you probably don't actually care that much lmao, but it was kinda fun for me to write up (even tho high school was a very miserable time for me tbh). If anyone has actually read this far, well uh. Hi lmao. I hope you have a nice day!

Both our middle and high school have a weight room with a bunch of workout equipment as well as an absolute massive gym. We have a separate computer lab and huge library. Our music room is really big and the art room is divided so one side has a bunch of pottery wheels for ceramics. We also have culinary rooms. All of that is just on the first floor.

I love your build and the fact that you added skill building rooms for art and music and even woodworking (what we call Design and Technology here in Australia), is spot on in the real layout of a high school. I feel this expansion pack has so many wasted opportunities. I guess because I am a high school teacher and there is so much more the Sims team could have done to make this high school experience a lot more fun and interesting. Like adding more than 2 classes a day, and having absolutely no interaction during this class time which doesn't even realistically represent a real life high school experience makes it not much better than a rabbit hole. They could have included some other classes, like an art class and/or music class and they definitely should have had a PE class with outdoor basket ball courts and tennis courts. Having a 3 hour break in between those 2 classes is so unrealistic. I wish that was the case in real life though! As a teacher that would have been awesome. Typically here is Australia there are 5 lessons a day which go for one hour. There is a recess break which is 20 minutes and a lunch break which is 30 to 40 minutes. I get that Sims take so much longer to do things that they need longer breaks. But they could have fitted in at least 3 lessons, maybe even four with 2 one hour long breaks fitted in between those lessons. Also, I am disappointed that the after school activities are just rabbit holes and the beautiful football field in pretty much unusable. There is this high school challenge that I play, and that is a lot more fun than this high school the Sims team have created. Don't want to be a Debbie Downer, just that this pack in regards to the high school experience is somewhat lack luster. However, your build is awesome! I probably should have posted this comment in your review of the pack, but when you built the differentskill rooms it really brought home to me just how much is missing in this pack.

@@EvelyntheG tbh, I'm *ahem* approaching 48 years young. This is a subject - the next phase of life - many adults in this age range think of (at least, if they want to be prepared lol). One thing heard commonly is how retirement age is when they are the freest they've ever been (especially if the financially planned!), but a lot are BORED. They honestly have no idea what to do with their time! While I'm fortunate to have an assortment of hobbies to occupy my time, not everyone has had the time to experience such stuff. (Sims even less so lol).
So, in Sims, the Elder phase isn't terribly long, right? (Look, dont shoot me, havent played YET, own it as of a bit ago lol, but computer is stored til renovations on this place is done, so info i have is based on watching these). So... to really PLAY this elder phase, it'd be needed to extend their life by a certain amount, so they have time to achieve "End of Life Goals" or... oooo, BUCKET LISTS!
Couples can, of course, move in together (someone'd have to work out if both HAVE to be elders)...

My highschool (I’m Canadian so keep that in mind) had a four basketball court gym with a stage and right above the bleachers that were on the back wall was like a balcony space that overlooked the gym?? You could only access that place from the upstairs floor but it was a weight room fully equipped with like, treadmills, those bike machines, the treadmills that look like stairs, and whole bunch of equipment you’d see in like. A regular gym outside of school. It was pretty cool

I'm really excited for this pack. Hopefully Kayla puts this build on the gallery when she can

My high school had a normal gym and then had a ‘weight room’ attached to it that had benches, weights, bikes, and yes treadmills. But my school was very large.

i kind of didn't realize how much of highschool i regret missing out on due to mental illness and undiagnosed disability... and on top of that, i graduated in 2020. at first i wasn't interested when i heard they were putting out a highschool pack, but this build is making me rethink that. it might sound kind of silly, but this looks like the kind of school i'd love to go to, and idk... maybe it would be nice to make a simself and have them actually go to dances and do extracurriculars and have a graduation...
of course regardless of whether i do get the pack or not, this build looks amazing and i'm always so impressed at how well simsie is able to do either residential or public lots! you can really tell she has an eye for detail and gives even public lots plenty of character and life

at the high school near me, they have both an indoor and outdoor cafeteria space where you can get food from either. i'd imagine a solution like that would be your best bet for fixing your problem; it'd keep the school building itself small while also letting you have enough cafeteria space for play.

Also with the default one, it took a long time to get to classes, which is a pain. I really like your version of the hs. 64x64 is a lot of land. I would have done two things, one put benches surrounding the front fountain for the teens to sit and chat before class, and two, I would have put the gym in the basement area--in my high school that is where it was. That way your can have lockers and showers on either side of the gym. We had a basketball court and a library--as well as a boiler room. My high school was old, it was built by the Army Corps of Engineers back in 1911.
Also, your cafeteria is just the right size, but I wish they would have made a place for the lunch ladies to prepare the food. I also wished that they would have added more classes, but hey I would have liked to have that much time between classes when I was in high school. So I am going to be happy about that.

REALLY would have been cool if they added like a faux marching band thing, even just a uniform. As someone who spent most of her time in HS in the band room and almost every Friday night in uniform it would have warmed my lil heart.

Kayla in almost every one of her videos:
Still in the process in building the build: I don't like that
After building: I actually really like that!

We didn't have workout equipment in our high school, but there was a exercise room at BOCES. I don't know if any other states has a BOCES type place, but it's a school where you take certain classes like nursing class, cosmetology, cooking, daycare, etc. Depends on what career you are interested in, the classes you take there earns you a degree in that career field

Very nice build. I like that style as it's the type of school I went to myself. The H.S. in the world/trailer/L.S. looks so big and open and empty that I am building a similar one but smaller to seem more crowded. Thanks for the insipartion.

Yeah I agree with you about the size and look of the high school. High schools in the Northeast tend to be big and just one main building with connecting buildings. My high school is really big (New Rochelle High School)!

I think I'm going to add a community garden/ garden club outside. That way your Sims can collaborate and harvest plants to use in their skills at home (cooking, floral arrangements ect.) And maybe a comfy lounge area that just has seating and a music player where Sims can sit and chat.

Thank you so much for making this! I had all the same thoughts about the school but I was overwhelmed about how to redo it.
    Yours is way nicer!
