I agree with you 100% Even John recognised that when he was interviewed shortly after Brians death he said "We've fooking had it!" He was right. The worst thing The Beatles did was try and manage themselves.
I agree, Brian had the sensitivity and the vision that they didn't. They were stars, millionaires and geniuses, a very difficult combination to manage. They needed that guy.
When Paul said drag isn’t it you can clearly see how distraught he was. There’s no other footage of him in that kind of state. They were evil to say he didn’t care.
Amazing how he's changed especially Beatle's songwriting contributions to suit the fact that Lennon's song's now hands-down get all the attention. In 1978 he did a very in-depth interview on his and John's contributions to each other's songs. He said he helped John on 3 of his songs. Now magically it seems that Paul wrote all the music and performed at least half of it himself. As Lennon said "Paul is a very good PR man". Indeed.
I was living in Atlanta, Georgia, a city of millions and during the requested moment of silence, the entire city literally went quiet, no noise, no traffic, nothing! Just like the in the movie, 'The Day the Earth Stood Still'. Made you realize how universal their influence was on the whole world and how deeply people were moved by his death.
It's kind of funny how time changes perspective. When I was younger and I saw the "it's a drag" video I tought he was being rude. But now that I am older it's clear as day he's in shock, he's in a fog, he's annoyed, and he's uncomfortable.
Oh it was definitely a jab at the idiotic reporter - it was 'rude' but not towards John - it was saying "Hey this conversation sucks doesn't it" you can tell by his abrupt body language and exit.
What a strange phenomenon the Beatles were. As music people, as individuals as everything all together and the rest. Some young kids all around the world today are still becoming fascinated. There must be a fundamental reason somewhere for that?
Definitely I took my daughter 12 years old to see Paul McCartney in concert in Sydney last year She absolutely loved it , I’ve introduced her to The Beatles who she loves I said to her you can say you’ve seen a Beatle live and in 50 years not many will be able to say that
@@shuddupeyaface The reason is a combination of incredible talent, charisma and being there at exactly the right time. Something that will most likely never happen again. It was lightning in a bottle.
They were the first. Broke so many frontiers in rock and roll. And now music is diabolical, rammed down kid’s necks by corporate labels. Classical music written hundreds of years ago is still played. The Beatles songs will still be played in 2200. NOTHING written in the last 15-20 years will be played beyond a decade. People aren’t stupid, they recognize these facts. The tricky thing is changing the tides. Keep the faith.
John and Paul were soulmates and suddenly John found his new soulmate, Yoko. That, together with his serious drug problems and the illnesses and mental problems that he surely suffered from, was what caused their relationship to be like this during the 70s. In parallel, Paul was a very sensible, healthy and family-oriented man. This shows that geniuses can be very different, even when they are practically brothers.
John and the original Paul were soulmates. After September 1966 a different Paul was brought in. Watch the Anthology from 1995 and hear Ringo reminding Paul that "You joined the band last!"
@@p_e_t_e Why did Ringo tell Paul "You were the last to join the band!"? Watch the anthology from 1995. And I said the very same thing as you did 30 years ago. I researched it carefully before coming to a conclusion.
Actually, it's just with your brother, when someone says something bad about you, you just think of him as, "Yeah, he's just a mean person," and don't decide, "I'm done with that guy and never gonna talk to him again." Paul McCartney and John Lennon are truly brothers in spirit.
Paul here: "A lot of bravado in what John said ..." Keith Richards, "John had a front as big as Harrods." Interesting insights from guys who knew Lennon back when. But, what got John killed was that he was so down to earth, when that psycho asked him for an autograph, John was probably taking the time to put his trademark smiley face on it. Really sad.
I think John wanted to be the man but Paul really was the man or became the leader. And it’s hard. But there was a lot of love between them. It’s like with any relationship with an ex etc. It’s hard to go back. You sort of move on. But they both gave so much to the world. And they did it together. I remember looking at song credits and lyrics on the old albums and so many times it sad Lennon/McCartney. And I don’t know why but that always made me feel good. Teamwork truly does make the dream work. Corny but true. Peace be with John, Paul, George, and Ringo. Nobody I don’t believe in history ever had the unique influence they had in their time.
John was the man and the leader. Paul became sort of the leader when John became tired of the band. Even Paul said John was the boss. John isn’t here anymore to speak, unlike Paul, by the way.
Well they were both leaders of the band and out of the band. John from forming the Quarrymen back in 1956 to early 1966 was very much the leader, however, from the studio years Paul was in control of the arrangements and became de facto leader. They were both “the man”.
I imagine you feel like everyone felt that Loved John Lennon, cheated by a senseless act. But when you add in the fact that you were lifelong friends. The depth of the loss would’ve been that much more.
Paul said, "It's a drag" in a nonchalant tone of voice in response to the question of how he felt about John being murdered. Yet the expression on his face told the very opposite--Paul looked like he'd been punched in the heart. When I saw Paul in concert in 2011, and he sang "Here Today" for John, I burst out crying. He reminded me of my sister who I lost due to unnatural causes and I could imagine his pain of losing John. It's good to know that their last communication was positive.
I saw an interview with Dick Cavett asking John about his relationship with Paul. He said that if you can't fight with your best friend who can you fight with?
Paul and the Beatles were on the Ed Sullivan show on CBS in 1963. They were just a little older than me, and they were role models. Later, we all found out that the celebrity given to classic rock musicians was usually misplaced. Most were creative aholes. They were not worthy of respect beyond their music. Paul McCartney has always been fun, creative and thoughtful of other people's feelings. I still respect him as a man and a human being.
Yes why would John mean things in a mean way ? like if you love people , you know them , some people, I say the opposite of what I mean thats normal its unfortunate if people don't realise that , then you have to try and sort it out , and try and tell people that , you love then and you're sorry and not take the missunderstang and put it on them , we have to just make sure people at the end of the day , let them know we love them, there is practically nothing worse than losing people, love and peace everyone ♥

I was far too young to really know much when Lennon died but I can relate it to when Dimebag Darrell from Pantera died after being shot on stage. I cried for 3 weeks solid. Completely different realm of music but those who know, know.
I really admire the way all the Beatles answered questions by reporters. Who rang you? A friend (doesn't say who). Why are you out today? I just didn't want to sit at home. Why? I didn't feel like it. How to be a Rock & Roll star lesson 1.
The morning after John was shot, I woke up to WNEW radio in NY they were playing all Beatles and John which was odd but then played Abraham, Martin and John that told me something was wrong. It was a shock.

I was 10 when John Lennon was killed. I remember it was one of the few times my Dad was home from work, because my Mom was watching the news, I was doing homework at the table, and suddenly she goes, “Oh my God! Honey! Honey!” Dad came running out of the bedroom, “What? What?” “Someone killed John Lennon!” I asked, “Who’s John Lennon?” Dad said, “He was one of the Beatles!” “Who are the Beatles?” Dad just put a record on, and we listened to the Beatles and John Lennon for the rest of the night. That was when I really knew who they were, and when I realized how much their music affected me. I knew who Elvis Presley had been, because they always listened to Elvis. But, the Beatles…I knew their songs, but I didn’t know THEM until that night.

AkashaMedea777; I have always said that Paul and John didn’t meet by chance. John didn’t just happen to decide to ask Paul’s mate, a kid that was really too young, to join his group because he was good on guitar. And they didn’t just happen to get to know the drummer for Rory Storm who sat in for Pete and when he played everything sounded SO much better! There’s no such thing as coincidence. These four became a unit by providence. It was planned. God’s hand guided it. That’s why there has never been, and will never be, another group to turn the music world upside down. And how blessed were we that lived it all in real time.
Paul is a very nice man, very warm and friendly, he never turned his back on his children, he even took care of Julian. John was very self-centered and talked about peace, but meanwhile he was a bad father to his first son and unforgivable to Paul, whom he blamed for arranging financial affairs behind the Beatles' backs. He was very harsh and would not forgive Paul. That. Paul visited regularly, but John always closed the door, which caused Paul great pain, his wife Linda always accompanied Paul on these visits. It's nice to hear Paul say that at some point they were talking again, but that took a long time! May Pang played a role in this, during the 18 months she lived with John she suggested they meet again, during that time John and Paul were also in the studio together again and John went out to see other celebrities, such as Mick Jagger, he also saw Julian regularly again. But back with Yoko he became a househusband and hardly saw people anymore.
Everyone talks about John's relationship with Julian but you have to understand that John didn't have a father in his life. He rarely saw his father who was a merchant seaman. His parents were never married. He last saw his father when he was 5 years old and never after that. From that age on he grew up living with his Aunt Mimi and his uncle. He had no clue at all how to be a father. He also had a lot of anger built up in him from basically being abandoned by his parents. That anger spilled over into his relationships when he was younger. He had a somewhat tempestuous relationship with Cynthia, his girlfriend and only married her after finding out she was pregnant. Julian was born in 1963. He was married at a registry office and then he had to go perform that night. When Julian was born he was on tour and didn't see him until 3 days later. The 4 years until he and Cynthia divorced were like a whirl wind for the Beatles. Constant touring and recording through 1966. How much time he spent with Julian who knows. But Julian was only 4 years old when his parents split up. And then after that it was difficult for John to even see Julian. So their relationship was haphazard and strained at best. It wasn't until Sean was born that Lennon became a real father.
I was 13 when john got shot.........i swear to god it still hurts me so bad...........it's just wrong. I still to this day can't listen to his solo work...........i want to cry just writing this.........
John's early death had to be a nightmare for Paul since both of their vocals made the Beatles. Up until Yoko came along and even destroyed that by ending and breaking up the group too soon. You could tell back then she only cared about the money NOT the music.
Don't get me wrong I hate yoko but she didn't really have much of an effect on the breakup of the beatles. Sure she played a tiny role but they even said themselves the beatles were on their last legs.
@@Jack_br3w I think your right. Having lived during the 60's as a young boy listing to music, those really were the best years for music by far than anything that came after. Great bands actually made all that happen for the first time during both the 50s and the 60s.
@@Jack_br3w I don't hate her. Not a fan but hate is a strong word. John clearly loved her and that's what matters. She should not have been in the studio when they were trying to work. Unfair to the others. She wasn't solely responsible for the group breakup. I believe that they had disagreements over business and management and lawyers with Paul wanting to go one way and the others not wanting to do that. I also believe that their best was well behind them. From Sgt. Pepper on they were winging it with some really great tracks on albums lost in a a load of rubbish like the White Album. Loved the 1961-1966 stuff and some of the later songs but really, they had run their course. I doubt they'd be as popular as they are today had they continued and just fizzled out after a few more years.
But it doesn't say what her last words were for John, the whole video says what we all know... I think the last thing she said to him in a phone conversation at the end was "think about me from time to time"
There is no doubt the McCartney knew Lennon pretty darn well. I think most of the stuff said here is accurate. In the end they were childhood type of friends that became enormously famous for all of us to enjoy. John was gunned down. Not fair at all. It ends in 1981 because of that creep.
I was called that night by my ex fiance who knew how much I cared about The Beatles and each individual member and it was surrealistic, I was in a state of shock for a week. I am 68 now but I was 24 then and it seems like yesterday. Lennon, for all his foibles was a musical genius as was each of the group in their own ways.
Its so sad that the greatest group in rock history didnt get along there in the end. At least we still have their music. Both as Beatles, and solo carrers.
I think we all have a "John Lennon" in us, the difference is that some of us keep it to just thinking of saying something, John wasn't like that. John grew up under Yoko's guidance because she didn't put up with his attitude and that was exactly what John needed and loved. I had the same experience with my late wife. She explained things to me in a manner I finally understood, the same thing might have been the case with John and Yoko and he loved her more and more for it.
Never forget that day in December opening television hearing the news song was playing just like starting over bad time in my life also one week before Christmas leaving Toronto to Montreal not hearing from my father over 26 years
Paul probably knew john more personally and intimately than anyone else on the planet. Paul knew him longer than George and Ringo knew him, and longer than John's wives knew him.
There is no normal response to grief. Some people scream and hit themselves and go bonkers. Others appear to show no reaction and anywhere in between. And all that is up in the air when it is John Lennon assassinated and a bunch of headline-seeking journalists ambushing Paul like that. Humans do not do shock well. That's why it's called shock.
I’m glad they never got back together and finished it on their own terms. Obviously it would have been great if they did decided while John was still alive to record again, but I like the fact that they didn’t because it just didn’t feel right. Sometimes it’s just better as fans to accept their decision and not be greedy just because it’s what WE want.
Youll notice when George died, Paul had a reaction that was commensurate with the loss. He had time in that case. Kinda unfair to hold the “ drag” thing against Paul. He seems to have had some residual guilt, but he’s in a situation where every move is judged in real time. Hes had to live like that since age 21. Strange much?
the youngest of 4 my older brother and sisters were big beatles fans, i was to young to get it but i was a big zeppelin fan so i guess it makes up for them leading the way, i knew every beatles song by heart by 7 years old and when lennon died i was 15?so figure it out
Much thanks to whoever was responsible for putting up the next link right in the center of the God damn video so we couldn't see the picture and images of what he was talking about way to go, guys.
Yep…Many Beatles fans and JL fans would find it very hard to actually come to terms that PM was actually the leader and founder of the Beatles, he seeked John out not the other way around. And the start of the Beatles was really when Paul and George met in school..Paul actually brought the Beatles together..but he never connects those dots in public because he knows the JL Fans would have a fit, but when you look at the facts they can’t be refuted. And not to mention How Paul keep the group together after Brian Epstein passing.

Definitely
I took my daughter 12 years old to see Paul McCartney in concert in Sydney last year
She absolutely loved it , I’ve introduced her to The Beatles who she loves
I said to her you can say you’ve seen a Beatle live and in 50 years not many will be able to say that
@@shuddupeyaface The reason is a combination of incredible talent, charisma and being there at exactly the right time.

Actually, it's just with your brother, when someone says something bad about you, you just think of him as, "Yeah, he's just a mean person," and don't decide, "I'm done with that guy and never gonna talk to him again."
Paul McCartney and John Lennon are truly brothers in spirit.
Really sad.
I remember when they asked Paul about the death of Lennon he said "It's a drag."
There's no way Paul would talk to Stern.
Great great comment .. thanks❤️✌🏼
Stupid comment.

I was 10 when John Lennon was killed. I remember it was one of the few times my Dad was home from work, because my Mom was watching the news, I was doing homework at the table, and suddenly she goes, “Oh my God! Honey! Honey!”
Dad came running out of the bedroom, “What? What?”
“Someone killed John Lennon!”
I asked, “Who’s John Lennon?”
Dad said, “He was one of the Beatles!”
“Who are the Beatles?”
Dad just put a record on, and we listened to the Beatles and John Lennon for the rest of the night.

Learn to spell….and to read…they were always friends.
I've never known the Beatles, personally. Their albums on the other hand....
not self centered at all
Everyone talks about John's relationship with Julian but you have to understand that John didn't have a father in his life.

All bets are off when someone dies. All debts are paid.
You see it all for what it really is, Love.
All good things come to an end.
But it doesn't say what her last words were for John, the whole video says what we all know... I think the last thing she said to him in a phone conversation at the end was "think about me from time to time"
The last thing.
John said to paul was "think about me every now and again my old friend."
There is no doubt the McCartney knew Lennon pretty darn well. I think most of the stuff said here is accurate. In the end they were childhood type of friends that became enormously famous for all of us to enjoy. John was gunned down. Not fair at all. It ends in 1981 because of that creep.
When John died….I think part of my heart died. The Beatles will live on forever xx
It shows you though, how the press can spin things.🤟
And how easily people are taken in by it.
It is a great tragedy even for me, who never actually met John, so I think it was an immeasurable tragedy for Paul, with whom he shared his youth.

John was always jealous of Paul's extreme talents . Paul was secure enough to humor john.

You could tell he was in shock. He is usually extremely articulate.
