I got mine for Christmas and love it and I paid 299 for mine
I’m usually just in front of the stealth guys and epic guys that are ten years younger than I am
I’m 60 and still average about 285 with it and every once in a while I’ll still get it out over 300 so I’m very happy with mine
This confirms what I've found over recent years when it comes to the newer driver's. I use to just go out & buy the biggest name driver, that I liked the look of. Only to find out they didn't suit my swing. So I started going out & testing driver's. Without the motivation to buy a new one. And quickly discovered how important it is to get the club best suited to your swing. Along with giving every manufacturer a chance.
Out of curiosity why are you targeting under 2000 spin? I’ve always targeted mid 2000s because my misses are far better and distance is barely less.
Hey Matt, thanks for the quality video. Are you still going to do the driver leaderboard? I thought it was a great idea.
Really interested to see how the X performed. Had previous generation Z but struggled with occasional spin-free nose diving shots. I had assumed the X was to correct big slices, but will have to try it out!
Yeah you will be surprised!
Just bought a stz 220 10.5*. For 300$CAD love it
Matt is the hosel the same design as the old models? I'm gaming an ST-190 and love it. I'd like to try the new heads with my current shaft. Thanks
quick question Matt, looking and love the look of the JPX923 forged, but the cost is close to the PRO 223s, so would it be better to get the 223s and yes i do love the look of them as well
very intriguing review i have always loved the value of the Mizuno brand for many years, i have had the irons and would look to try one of these new Drivers....good show Matt
I picked up the 230Z at £299 on line so it is out there at that price if you look around and it’s every bit as good as Matt says.
Would have been interesting to see the dispersion between the two and also your current driver 👍🏼
Mizuno seems to be going the of Nissan with their new Frontier. They have the Toyota Tacoma killer but priced it to high to coax new buyers to the brand. Mizuno as you said seem to have made themselves a name with Irons but have never really been able to break into the upper echelon of drivers. Lower the price and "they will come."
All of the new drivers are good I’m sure, but is an amateur golfer going to fork out $5-600 every time these manufacturers come out with a driver? I doubt it. There are so many used drivers in perfect shape that you can get a super nice one for half the price.
Play a 220 STZ. Just love it!! Thank you for the review!!!
Looking at getting a new Driver this year, Mizuno will definitely be one that I will try, I swing Mizuno irons so I'm hoping the Driver don't disappoint.
Paul here a tip just try AJUSTABLE ones well take me I tried every AJUSTABLE driver and the setting suiting me added 50 yards on course but by error in winter I dropped 2 ° to 8° and now I'm a fairway longer finder . what I am saying is AJUSTABLE settings you can fiddle about a bit to suit.
paul
@@paulgolferI have a question about adjustable drivers if you please?
Besides Mizuno, Taylormade,Cobra, etc utilizing marketing ploys to sell more, is there really that much of a difference between this and Drivers 10-15 years old? Technology does have it’s limitations.
I agree definitely on the head
Thin line would of looked awesome
It looks a bit like an m2 with a black band.
It only has shorter shafts aswell doesn't it
cheers mate! love the channel and ur videos, keep 'em comin brother....💪💪💪
Nice review, Matt, really like the looks of this driver. Is 1500 spin too low to be functional on course? Would the results change much if you tweaked shaft/loft/etc. to get it to 2000+?
How to remember - Z model is supposed to have the weight on the Z axis ie behind the sweet spot. X has the weight across the face - X axis - allowing for "mild draw bias".
I have the Mizuno STG 220. It’s such a low spinning driver. It only hits bombs. Even the bad hits are still good
Could you put your club data as well in the future. Some long balls there, but that mid 1000 spin would be hard to manage on the course.
Really need to try these new mizunos, theyre up to something really good over there with these drivers past few yrs. But i love my Cobra F9 still and dont see much reason to change
Thanks for the video Matt, i hope the testing of the Z model makes it on here :)
I'm still using the st180 but I'm planning a new driver this year. Was thinking of this until you said the rrp
Yeah that's the one thing that will stop folks I think
Good review and the results show it works but like all things it’s different from person to person
I have JPX-921 Hot Metal irons and wedges and they are stellar. I’ve had many other iron brands in the bag and these are my solid gold. I’ve owned a few Mizuno drivers like ST-180 and ST-200 but they didn’t rock my world. If Mizuno wants to get a piece of the market they need to tantalize the golfers with not only superior performance, but an attractive PRICE below others to lure golfers into buying them. Pricing them sub par with the others that perform equally well will not win over many. It’s a wrong strategy by Mizuno in my opinion.
Nice honest review Matt. Agree that the price is a little high and Mizuno missing a trick. Thanks for your time.
I’d have to say my favorite clubs from were the old FP irons. And the older king ltd driver. 😎😎. Call me old school lol. I’m currrently playing a ping g30 driver. Mizuno Mx 20 tzoids. I love the older irons
Great irons!
Hi Matt, could you elaborate on your swing speed / smash factor between the 220 and 230? I got the STG 220 and that is most likely staying this bag - It was a present from my wife and she will kill me if I already retired it already..
Really like the look of this one compared to the other new releases.
Agree 100% with your comments regarding the price of the new Mizuno drivers. I purchased an STX-220 last summer when the price dropped from $499 USD to $299.00 and couldn't possibly be happier. I had an original Callaway Rogue prior to this, but the Mizuno STX-220 offset my fade bias and as a result I'm driving the ball longer and straighter than ever at 57 years of age. I'm also getting more roll out on the fairway due to the lower spin numbers. The new ST-230 drivers should be priced $100.00 below the big boys (Callaway, Taylor Made, Ping, Cobra, etc.) if they wish to gain market share and become a brand consumers take a serious look at when upgrading to a new driver. They, of all people, should realize Mizuno drivers don't command the same level of respect or prestige as their irons and wedges do and they're missing the mark by not pricing their drivers accordingly.
Just curious do you have the STX 220 fairway woods? Asking because I am gaming the STX 220 5 fairway and crushing it. So I bought the STX 220 driver without hitting it. I am hoping I hit and like the driver as well as my fairway. Thoughts? Also bought the 2023 STX 230 driver just for the hell of it, but I did demo that and hit it well. Enjoy buying new clubs just for the heck of it.
@@davidgolf3245 No. I only have the driver, but am considering picking up the new STX 3-Wood this year. I really want to hit their new S23 wedges in hopes of having them augment my JPX-921 Forged iron set.
What about dispersion? longer carry usually means less accuracy.
Great review Matt. What is your swing speed?
Matt you are the man, love the content
Nice review Matt. I've tried the last few iterations, ST200, STz220 and they just felt flat to me. Not bad just never got the sneaky long drives that make you smile.
So even distance wise first - has anyone went from the 220 to 230 and noticed anything significant I have a new 220 but now thinking I should have waited for this but I'd feel better about it if I knew there wasn't much of a difference lol
Gotta love these new club testing deals every year. So easy to play with numbers on a machine. Ridiculous numbers. lol
What was the club speed for the both tests.
great video....which driver head do you think would suit me most ? age is 58....9 to 11 handi cap....driver swing speed 90-94...hit a fairly high straight ball and currently use a regular flex shaft and spin rates of 2700 to 3200....cheers from Canada
I’m curious how it compares to the STG 220
$500 for a driver is pretty much the cheapest thing out now a days especially the way it performs. I feel like saying the putters are too expensive doesn't make sense either. Mizuno's putters are fully forged, face is milled, comes with a weight kit, and are still cheaper than 90% of the stuff out there.
The Mizuno drivers do look good, but I need a fade bias, which isn't a feature. Love your reviews and look forward to your 2023 on course videos.
Lofting it down will open the face and make it more of a fade bias
It can be set up to fade
How does it compare to paradym & stealth 2?
Beta titanium is a family of titanium alloys, they have a better forgeability than other Ti alloys. Perhaps Mizuno chose it for this reason?
Where's the wilson review?
Ok Matt so would you go from Titleist (TSI) to this product OR is it pointless ??
Isn't 1500 RPM of backspin sort of unplayable? That's a ridiculously low number.
furthermore, the Foresight algorithm is likely overcalculating the carry by quite a bit because of the low spin. known issue with their monitors.
I wouldn't mind giving it a try, but I don't think it would out perform my TSi3. I think the speed game is about maxed out now with drivers. I think it's all about the forgiveness game at this point. At the end of the day, the max legal efficiency is still 1.5. That cannot be changed unless the governing bodies change it. So simply put 100 in 150 out. Price wise. Any of the manufacturers could serve customers better by dropping the prices. I bought new wedges in the fall. Custom ordered SM9's. I saw the price Titleist charged the pro, $120 shipped. I paid $160 to him. So he made $120 for doing nothing other than being the middle man. That, to me, is a problem for the golf industry, and no one seems interested in changing it. I'm sure other equipment and brands are the same way.
Unless you understand his overhead and stocking costs he really isn’t doing “nothing “
@Thomas Godfrey small shop that he said he owned. I understand the need to make a profit. I do metal art and build custom lights and other odds and ends. I get it. I was merely pointing out the disparity in price. Not to mention, it was still cheaper for me than any other website online. Basically, pointing out the markup, everyone is charging.
Is one more forgiving then the other X or Z ?
Tempted by the Mizuno ST220 drivers - great value on ebay.
Yes I bought one
Maybe a custom fit with your apparel sponsor ?
In the US they are up for $499
The price is way out of line for a "second tier" driver. No way people will pick this over the big driver brands.
In the UK it looks like it's going to be a year to forget for Mizzy in the sales department then.
Never knew it was called the running bird
Other reviews show less distance……guess getting fitted is important
Good ball speed for you?
As forgiving as the G430 Max?
Distance estimates on GC3/quad are not reliable when spin is so low.
All the new drivers are way overpriced for only 5 yards gain on last years models!,
Agree but these guys gotta make money to keep the lights on
Maybe a £300 max rrrp might be a great idea?
Shame about the price to close to top boys and they need to get people wanting to stock this and people to try them
Nice looking clubs but not for me.
Good review Matt
Looks a great driver with great performance but £499! Wow 😮
Those spin numbers are too low for the course. No wonder you’re leaning towards the X Matt
The older model was very forgiving I am playing it now, did you notice any loss of forgiveness?
Driver pricing is getting out of hand. It seems only Srixon and Tour edge can make drivers perform at lower prices.
My OCD is going mad here mate. Can you straighten those pictures behind you and make the gaps a bit more equal please!!?? I can't concentrate!
Has there ever been a driver made outside of the regulations to conform?
A non gimmick one?
Nice review as always Matt 🤙🏻
Callaway ERC 2. Was initially illegal, then they thought it would be legal, then it was confirmed as illegal.
Could someone put me out of my misery which course is that head cover from on the bottom shelf?
$500 in the US. Not that bad
Yeah cheaper than some
$499 in US.
Matt ,
Paul here I would like to see you finch shiels have a go at the 50 balls hole in one and 14 club challenge again or the likes of . WHY , well your all out of your comfort zone.
paul
Have the ST/200, kill it w/ a slight draw, no reason to change. Driver tech has stalled I think...
Hmmm
Why are so many golf youtubers unable to correctly pronounce PERformance?
It's not PREformance.
Nothing carrying 290 with 1500 spin lol cmon.
Matt you’ve got a lot of spam popping up on your older videos bud
1500 spin is completely unplayable on the course. If this driver really carries that much further than the previous generation it really proves how bad the 220 really was! The crazy marketing of these companies doesn't even make claims of 15 to 20 yards of distance from one generation to the next!
Probably a daft question, but why would 1500rpm be unplayable?
When your backspin is below 2000 the ball is unstable in the air. It makes it much easier to hit hooks and fades. If you want to keep the ball our planet 1500 spin is much much too low.
@@codycook3382 thanks for the explanation!
So it just makes it more of a players driver? Not unplayable for a scratch or plus handicapper?
Do you need a swing speed of more than 105 to get thus driver working like it should
Are you sponsored by Mizuno?
I enjoy Matt's instructional videos but his reviews are completely tainted by brown envelopes
I think they should do the carbon in blue
Totally agree, they should be priced cheaper than Cobra to sell more
The cortex chamber is the real deal.
