Really interesting video. Refreshing to see something about ambient music production that isn't essentially just an advert for a new piece of equipment.

Thank you! I already got the gear advert out of my system with the last video, haha. Glad you found it interesting!

I took an electronic music course at the University of Illinois with Dr. Sever Tipei. He was really big on visual scores. Rather than writing out notes or chord charts, he recommended sketching shapes and lines to represent sections of a piece.

I love that! One of my ambient friends, Caminauta, makes her own visual scores, and I love the idea. I generally look at my music as sound paintings, so to see someone translate music into visuals, and vice versa. I’m really interested in any graphic notation stuff, so I’ll have to look into Dr Tipei’s work. Thanks so much for the little anecdote!

    Great video!
    In regards to buying gear:
    Beautiful people: looks aren‘t important.
    Rich people: money isn’t important
    People with a 10k rig: gear isn’t important 😅

Very helpful video, Ben. Thanks for putting this out there. I'm new to creating ambient/downtempo music that I started during the pandemic lockdowns. I feel like I'm just scratching the surface, but I'm happy with the results I've achieved so far and it's been a lot of fun learning and "meeting" new people.

Very cool video! I've been so much into ambient and my own workflow, it's fun and refreshing to hear how it is approached by other musicians. Looking forward to part 2! I love the format of these :)

I find the absolute most important thing when I'm making ambient music is that I'm sat in a hamock.

Great Video Benji!! thank you so much! I´m a bass player, getting into ambient music... your videos are incredibly inspiring. This is my first solo project, and I´m facing a lot really nice "problems", like mentioned in the video: looking fot textures to reproduce, sounds. Experimenting with friend´s gear, or re-discovering new ways to use old stuff... It´s beeing an incredible journey.

Hello. When I describe my compositions I say that they are Electronic music, Experimental music, or Noise music. I searched for many ways to produce music before I began writing it. I learned a lot from other musicians, and ways they created sounds. Afterwards I used every type of sounds. It's a lot of fun. I like your video. Enjoy your weekend.

Thank you for the kind words! And yeah, there is going to be at least one more episode coming out. My computer is being funky in the edit right now, but since I’ve already done the interview, it should be coming out fairly soon! Glad you are excited for future stuff!
