No... no, no, no! people hating on this performance, read this- you guys (and, as a violin student who wouldn't dare attempt this piece for another decade or so, I) have NO IDEA how hard this piece is. All I can say is it looks immensely difficult. To get everything perfectly in tune, resonating, up to speed- and then to handle all the artistic elements- it sounds like a nightmare! This performance is far from perfect- but it's significantly better than ANYTHING you or I could whip up. Kang is a fantastic violinist to even attempt this piece! And she is so brave to play it in front of an audience! I have trouble playing suzuki pieces in front of my teacher!!!!!!
No, its not as precise as Hahn or as fast as Vengerov, but why should that make it a bad perfomance? There are still many parts of this piece where she excels. Some parts I enjoy more than any other interpretation. She has excellent use of vibrato and of accents. She brings quiet splendor to parts where some violinists just pound through to show off. There's sincerity and maturity here- maybe not technical perfection, but that's not what classical music is about. Kang is an amazing violinist- check out her recording of Hubay's Carmen Fantasy, or her Sibelius Violin Concerto, or her Saint-Saens Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso. And how many violinists actually play Ernst's Last Rose Of Summer or Milstein's Paganiniana? Not a ton. She does. Why does EVERY single piece she plays have to be perfect? So you can be sure it won't be 9 minutes of "coulda clicked on that other interpretation..." If that's what you're saying to yourself, that's YOUR problem, not hers.
I understand wishing it was better in the knowledge that she is a great violinist and maybe could done better, but there are all sorts of reasons people make mistakes and it's nothing worth commenting "OMG so cringy" about. It's a GOOD PERFORMANCE. We are lucky to be able to witness astronomically virtuosic performances from the comfort of our homes, lets not abuse that power. This is why so many classical musicians burn out- because of the expectation you have to always be "better" than the youtube video you'll land next to. And I bet, if she were to revisit this piece, invest a little more time into it, it would be JUST as good as Vengerov or Hahn, Still different. But just as good.
Anyway, sorry for the rant, this is just something that bugs me a lot :(

Beautiful! A more feminine interpretation than Maxim's, but equally powerful and passionate. And clearer, I have to say. There are phrases in this piece which I never noticed until I heard you play it.

There's a lot of room for personal interpretation in Ysaye 3... Vengerov's performance has become iconic, but this kind of slower, rubato performance is also perfectly fine.
Unless there's something I'm missing? Her intonation sounds fine to me...

She is a human, not a robot :), and this is still one of the most clear performance ( full of clear phrasings, delicacy and musical intentions) here on youtube.
