- Abida Parveen (born 1954) is a Pakistani singer of Sufi music. She sings mainly ghazals, Urdu love songs, and her forte, Kafis, a solo genre accompanied by percussion and harmonium, using a repertoire of songs by Sufi poets.
This is an old VHS rip from Asia TV.

At my age (~74) organs of my body have started failing, my hearing is deteriorating like myself, therefore I couldn't understand the story Ms. Parveen told in the beginning, tonight I played it over & over again till I got it right, for me the story is very heart warming, perhaps even better than the Raga and the Ghazal itself. What is impressive that Abida recollects her memories with such a reverence for her father, Shah Abdul Lateef and Ustad Salamat Ali Khan that it is mesmerizing. Abida is not really appreciated, admired and adored just as the other GREATS like Saeen Akhter, Pathaney Khan, and our darling sweetheart Reshman. Their countrymen saw greener grass on the other side & walked over these jewels like they were pebbles of chert. Only jewelers know the worth of a jewel; jewelers are a rare commodity themselves, poor Pakistan.

Malkaus is my favourite raag. Parveen ji rendered it in a magical style.
Her rendition can only be weighed in tears. Pure celestial drops. Ma, Ammi.

I don't think anyone will ever perform such a beautiful Raga with such a sad URDU Ghazal, at 14.00 the flowers (sweethearts) are sending a message to those who are imprisoned (think, why???) to come this spring, blossoms are not forever. I always liked this GHAZAL, but I never knew it is in Raga Malkauns, this is MAGICAL, Ms. Perveen, I am grateful & extremely proud of you & as always I consider myself lucky to understand the PRINCESS URDU.

I never compared Ustad Amir Khan Sahib with Abida ji or anyone. He is god of classical Indian music for me. I mentioned the bandish part of it. No one can take place of Ustad Amir Khan Sahib. Sorry if anyone got offended by not reading my earlier comment carefully. I listened to his Malkauns recorded at Calcutta AIR many decades ago almost everyday. That’s the ultimate……Jin ke man Ram biraje………..
