I fiberglassed my pond 16,000 litres, looks like you had the wrong catalyst that's all, you gave it a try, good for you, with the right catalyst you would have been fine, i mixed 5 litres at a time and only ever got 25 minutes to use it, get some more and give it another try.
Really appreciate the advice about fiberglassing, something I am looking to do next year and this was invaluable information. On the bowl nets? I'm in southern Ireland and would be interested in getting one for my 60cm measuring bowl if that's an option? Either way, great idea and something we'll worth while. Hope to see you giving the fiberglass another go and getting right would be the icing on the cake👍
I found mixing at one percent was suitable for me to get about 10 15 mins work as it was hot when I was glassin. The grp suppliers said its not recommended less than 1 percent but aslong as it goes of its fine. I found only mixing enough resin per fiberglass drop (sheet) so I could get all that excess resin and air bubbles out. also buying you brushes rollers and gloves from a supplier as the b an q ones just melt as I know the buckets are also better as you can reuse the as the resin peels out when gone off. It's a horrible job but worth when done yourself to save the pennies and take your time and get it better than the pros
I commend you for giving it go especially where no one was getting back to you or too busy. So glad you got someone coming this week though as I know the fiberglassing was holding you up in finishing the new pond. 👍 Good luck at the grow & show!!! Hope you sell out 💯% & lots of lucky buyers get your bonsai trees!! 🙏🏻😊👍
Thanks Maureen yeh was an expensive mistake but what can ya do 🤣 just waiting on the window now 😅 And thank you hopefully it's a good day as I defo need the money after paying out twice for the fiberglass 🤣
Hi Jamie, fibreglassed my grow on pond in that stupid hot weather, i was covered over with a temporary pergola, you definitely had a dryer that was to fast, you needed a slow drying catalyst, i got twenty minutes at four kilos at one percent, and used a seven inch roller, all went well, just waiting for the window, i used Apex fibreglassing and got a ten metre square kit, was enough.
Yeh your spot on mate that's exactly what the issue was but thankfully it's all sorted now fingers crossed 🤞 and yeh I'm waiting for my window too now 😅
I’ve never had the nerve/confidence to do fibreglassing myself and I guess this illustrates why it costs £££ to get it done by a professional. Sorry that you’ve had this experience but fingers crossed the professional will sort it for you🤞🤞🤞. Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday😊👍
Any body thinking of having a go themselves, you can do fibreglass day course for £100 ish. Bit of confidence and Q+A goes a long way. Enjoying your build.
Were the 2 products still in date, like everything they have a shelf life, or had they been opened, once exposed to oxygen they will start to react, i think you did well all considered
Hi Roger yes either email mail me using the email address on my about page or better yet drop me a message on Facebook the link is in the video description 👍
let me explain to you that you should not mix large quantities of resin up and leave them in a thick concentration. This actually encourages curing by trapping in chemical reaction heat. It is best to mix small quantities (quart or less) and put them spread thin on disposable paint pans. I know it seems opposite of other materials, but this is expert advice.
Sorry to hear your troubles.. As mentioned before without knowing what materials you used something is very wrong.. At them mixes normal resins would give you easy 10 - 15 mins.. Hopefully you can get it done
Oh! what a bummer mate. I've never tried it, so I've no idea. Just watch the pro when he comes, that should give you a better idea. Take care mate, Terry.
Thats a real shame Jamie, as I’m sure you are more than up to the job. You may have hit the nail on the head tho, about getting all your materials from the one supplier. That’s what I did, I got a kit for 20 sq. metres, for my little pond, which came with everything, but I’m sure it was about £300. You need to be careful fibreglassing resin and catalyst, as they do have a limited shelf life. I remember having less time to work with it than I’d seen other people get on RUclips, so I generally only ever mixed 1 or 2 litres at a time. I only ever got about 15 minutes. I could probably have used less hardener. I’m sure you will get it sorted soon mate….🤞🏼
Geez....pretty sure it shouldn't set that quick, without having thermal runaway. I'm no fiberglassing expert, but i have done a fair bit of resin casting.....and id lean towards the mixing of brands/ types of resin & hardner....Gutted for you dude

Great update Jamie unlucky about the fibreglass as you say let the professionals do it see you on Saturday.
Yeh defo let them do it 🤣 and yes you certainly will 😊
Winter catalyst in the summer? You can. Buy slow activity stuff. Gives you more time.
@sounduser even so it should still give more than 2 minutes surely
@@keepingitkoi I've had top coat smoking. But not in two minutes. It's definitely good advice to use only new stuff and do a test piece first.
Not to add to your worries but have you used the correct resin? There are different ones for roofs and ones for ponds.
Thanks bud but yeh it was the right resin I checked that before I bought it 👍

Thanks Phil yeh I certainly don't recommend fiberglassing unless your 100% confident 👍 and yeh you certainly will 😊

Thanks bud your comment means alot and I would love to do one any idea where I'd go to do one?
