Frank James: Outlaw and Shoe Salesman?

  • It’s safe to say that a career as an outlaw doesn’t lend itself to a long life. Billy the Kid was only twenty-one years old when he was killed. Cherokee Bill was a year younger. The notorious Bloody Bill Anderson was not yet twenty-five. Jesse James, Joaquin Murrieta, Rube Burrow, Bill Longley, and the list goes on. Not one of them over the age of forty. But of course, there are exceptions. Not ALL of the West’s most dangerous men died young. Nor did they simply disappear at the turn of the 20th century. Some of ‘em stuck around and tried to adapt. This is one such story - someone you have most definitely heard of. A true legend of the old west; a killer. And yes, a shoe salesman. #wildwest #history #outlaw

This is my favorite video on your channel, I always loved the "old badass" cliche!
Keep up the fantastic work, you make working in an emergency room far easier.
Also, may I recommend that you include some reviews of Western movies on your channel, classic or modern? They'd satiate my ever-growing wild west addiction.

Every generation produces such men and we are all sinners in our own way. As my time of passing nears I look back on those men whom I have known many of whom were in turns brave, courteous, violent and even, at times, scoundalous but few were slackards or cheats. Perhaps those of lower standing have simply slipped from my mind for having little too recommend their memory . We all need our heroes, even us old folks, it's a way to measure our progress as we near our final goal.

This story was such a romp! Please tell us more little anecdotes. I'll watch long or short videos from you, both are solid and funny. I trust you to do your due diligence, because you admit when you screw up and fix it. Takes an honest man to do that.

@thewildwestextravaganza I’m from East Tennessee and There’s a old tavern called Tate springs tavern and I’ve read in county books and in newspapers that Frank & Jesse James mother worked there and just recently read in a old newspaper where it said that Jesse & Frank James came through The Cumberland gap where there a tunnel and middlesboro, Kentucky is at now, but through the gap I read they traveled to this Tate Springs Tavern. Tate springs had a huge resort and John ford and the Rockefellers Al stayed at this place. In local books Tate springs and bean station was the only stop from the Washington, D.C. on your way to New Orleans. There where plenty of Presidents that stayed at the resort. Can you or do you have information about Frank and Jesse James coming to East Tennessee.

Reminds me of when I started working at a factory and was in a bad spot. There was a friendly old man who annoyed me and I never gave him any respect, considered him a douche. Then one day he starts talking about Nam. Talking about the people he killed, and the people his friends killed. He laughed with a sincerity that told me he wasn't making it up. Didn't seem to be trying to give me any kind of impression, just remembering. I usually walk away from war stories feeling like "Wow what a life/you been through a lot." I came away from that one thinking "Holy shit he enjoyed that." I was nice to him after that 😂

I heard of this much later in life but the thing is I only knew him as an old man.. as you said… I have nothing but respect for him but I did know, just by his persona that he was not to be messed with

This reminds me of the time I watched the old announcer for the KU basketball team try to fight my father on the golf course some years back. This man was 6’8’’ and 270lbs trying to impress a few college boys he was with. Little did he know that my father 5’9’’ 165lbs was an ex special forces operator who only wanted to mind his own business. Needless to say my father got in trouble after “pummeling him defenseless” in self defense against a giant with a golf club. Lol needless to say the well known sports announcer does not hold there anymore out of pure embarrassment 😂 never underestimate a quite little guy!

Just found your channel a couple days ago and began with the “Colorado cannibal” episode and have listened to at least 6-8 of them since then and looks like I will probably watch them all very quickly. I do hvac and drive for 5+ hours a day around the 9th ring of hell, also known as Atlanta Georgia and these make the drive fly by. Really well done content. You are funny as hell bro. Keep up the great work and success will follow.

".. Frank would be in Baltimore when he would read of the assassination of his kid brother, Jesse.. .. He had spurned his younger brother, for being peculiar, and temperamental.. ..but upon perceiving he would never see Jesse again, he would be wrought up, perplexed... despondent."

Jesse James, by the coward, Robert Ford', naturally..

..... .. how many years would you say, is many years?... if you'll hopefully forgive my jibe, I've endured hours that felt like years it seems.. a minute that seemed a full day.. a night that stretched on for hundreds of those same minutes, of dark.. only to feel blinded by the smallest light, and one that would go out.. ..and now, at about 36 years young, i begin to just feel like a highlander, having lived 5 or 6 or more completely different time periods, familial dynamics, environs, perquisites, so many more distinct factors and now, having lost enough to maybe yearn to win no matter what, i find myself waiting for the one i can't defeat, or don't see coming..
... oh yes.. the question was.. how many years is, in your approximation, 'many years'?
