- The Doors had a relatively short career, but their fallen lead singer, Jim Morrison, continues to live on in the memory of fans forty-two years later. Drummer John Densmore wrote another book about him and recently spoke of the late singer. (April 25)

You can never ever replace Jim Morrison with anyone.
True, they replaced Freddy.
That's the reason why I can't hear tribute bands...
His voice is as flawless.
got that right.
Facts
I love the fact that Densmore has really mellowed with age. For a long time he really resented Jim and the chaos he created. It seems he now appreciates just how lucky he was to be apart of it.
Dan. I agree
I would’ve resented him too. Imagine what else they could’ve done. Probably more resignation than mellowing.
@@DJ-bj8ku w/o Jim they would just be a LA band along with the all the others hoping for a break!!!
He resented Jim for quoting music plus the illuminati after becoming inspired by french poet Arthur Rimbaud Book Rimbaud And Morrison becoming right wing political activist Rush Limbaugh
Each member of the Doors was an outstanding musician in his own right. Among the best of their era.
I was 17 years old in 1967 No one sounds like the DOORS before and since 🇺🇸 loved their music 🇺🇸 🖤
You are soo lucky sir 🇨🇱👍🏻😎
I was 12.
And I can still remember the first time I heard The Doors on the radio that Saturday in early Spring
It Changed my Life. PJD.

I have been a fan of Jim Morrison and The Doors since the 1960s.
I read his book, I suggest any doors fan read it. It is incredibly honest and you realize how serious the musicians were in the doors. How much reverence he has for what the four of the created.
Bardzo dobra książka 100% polecam
Isaac Shaver, Could you tell me the name of the book.
Yes and Jim and the rest of the band never wanted their music played in commercials. they were offered a lot of money but turned it down.
I am a fan of John Densmore because I know his heart is in John Coltrane and the best jazz you can imagine. And Jim Morrison is irreplaceable. There will never be another like him. It was a time that I will always cherish as my beginning.
Like John Densmore said alot of truth. Alot of talented people don't make it, Alot of FAMOUS PEOPLE ARE NOT TALENTED.
Ray Manzarek was really a terrific human being .
Ray & Jim we're really close.
Rest in peace Gentlemen !
❤🏆🙏
John...one of the greatest and underated drummers in rock history.
John, great drummer and the conscience of the doors
Jim was a great poet but his singin and shrieking paved the way for many rock bands. As a singer myself, I've found that he was an excellent vocalist as well.I can't achieve those great sounds, no matter how much I practice!
Astute. How did he DO that magnificent phrasing, with no training or background for it?
@@davidb2206
He was very intelligent.
@@wendyjohansen6174 Not intelligent enough. Or he would have avoided drugs and self-destruction entirely and perhaps gone toward a spiritual path, more like George Harrison.
@@davidb2206
He had a genius IQ around 150-160.
That is all I meant.
@@davidb2206 Jim Morrison? Of course drugs and alcohol were the answer, thew were the whole deal with him, and that is unfortunate;
I think that you need to be out of this world to produce music that is out of this world;
To me that is the sad truth; if you are local, you will only be able to produce local musaks, with exceptions for only some exceptionally driven ones, lots of times by anti-political ideas in their minds.
I could listen to Densmore for hours.
I will always respect John Densmore for NOT selling his soul and trying to recreate The Doors without Jim Morrison.
The others did not try to recreate them either. They never hired a singer to emulate Jim.
Without JIm they fizzled out almost overnight.
Or to allow their songs to be used for car and other commercials. What he did was courageous and heroic.
@@jamesb.9472 Really? The agreement from the legal case John won was for 100 years. I would like to know where I can find this commercial. Please, if able, let me know where this is documented.
@@jamesb.9472 Yes, he just said that, and they fizzled out quickly.
Please don’t ever let Bono front a doors song.
I'll second that!!!
I’ll third that!!!
Now it is a formal petition.
Why?
Have you got a spare couple of weeks?
Troubled souls r always the most creative! Rip Mr Mojo Risin.... 💘
Definitely one of kind guy awesome music I remember them it was a trip
No band can wear the doors shoes nobody was like them I listen to them higher than kite and sober nothing like them still listen
Well said!!
None of the Doors should complain about Jim's distrucitve ways. Because when Jim wanted to quit the band and told them he was going to have a nervous breakdown, they kept insisting that he not quit.
They were lost without Jim. As time proved. Another case of not appreciating what you have, while you have it amongst you.
@@davidb2206
They obviously appreciated Jim or they would have let him quit. Also where would skim have been without the DOORS?
@@davidb2206And who was Jim before he met the other Doors? A homeless nobody. A band is a team effort.
John Densmore's book, is by far the best and most accurate book of the Jimmy Morrison and the Doors! 😎
Read them all. These were eyewitnesses, though they have reasons to hold some back, too.
Check out Robby's,great read.
Ein großes Glück das vier Genies zusammen gefunden habe. Das sind die Doors.
what a voice! what a band!
I’d like to start to a petition to not allow Bono to ever front a Doors song
Ha ha Bono? It sounds so ridiculous!
Боже как же я ненавижу этого позера Боно . И группа U2 середнячок .
Haha. Why do you think that?
you can add my name to the list
John Densmore gives a sensible rational explanation of Jim Morrison’s behaviour, and the Talent the late Great Man had...Having Genius has it’s Consequences ,it borderlines Madness..
Densmore's first book, and The Doors, were a huge inspiration to me in my youth and inspired me to pursue my dreams. 'The West is the best'.. or at least it used to be lol
Thanks for sharing your stories .so special.🌾
Why??? Why did Jimbo have to die? He was a Magic Man! He was so beautiful inside and out!
He lost his marbles
the 27 club.
He was JIM, "Jimbo" was the other guy...
Bono and his guitar player walk into a bar, the bartender looks up and says..What...U 2 again!
Bono should never be in the same sentence with the words "The Doors." Yegads!
@@davidb2206Exactly reason why Jim quit the illuminati after getting inspired by Arthur Rimbaud becoming right wing political activist Rush limbaugh.
So surprising, and also I it fills my heart with joy to know that even John densmore one of my idols for drumming ., understands Eminem and is listening to music as it progresses through time. What a musical soul
Jim.morrison is a legend !
Awesome musician.
Jimmy oo jimmy 🖤🖤
I believe if Jim was to live. He'll shift towards into writing poetry more being a singer just my opinion.
Right on John!
Love his 🎵🎶 yes a true poet and activist. Drugs is really sad. Alcohol. His challenge was his out look on War, and his father's position. Difficult time in America. Glad my son's were not in High school then. Drugs was every where...🇩🇰🇺🇸📬🎵🎶
some bands click, some are great, some are in your face incredible, this is one of those,THE DOORS DID ALL THREE,BUT MOSTLY INCREDIBLE,JIM'S PROBLEM WAS HIS MAIN PROBLEM
Glad John Densmore and Robbie Krieger Are still around... Cleopatra / purple pyramid label etc
I miss you
Just came by to remind you that the “Doors drummer” is John Densmore.
I loved Eddie Veddar when he dubbed for Morrison. He did a fantastic job. One of my favorite artists as a matter fact.
Similar vocal style and sound like brothers
Rip John Densmore..Ray Manzereka
John is still alive
Rock on
I bet jim was very proud of robby krieger for writing light my fire and love me two times and any others he wrote
Being he is the poet and writer and asked someone to right songs to make up the album
Light my fire probably there most famous hit for few reasons and love me two times great tune
Yes jim would of been proud he wrote two great songs right there talent and great guitarist to boot
I wondered what happened to Robby's songwriting after The Doors - none of his later songs became famous. However he wrote some great songs in the Butts Band, which also included John Densmore. That band also had a fantastic lead singer named Jess Roden. For some reason although they appeared on The Midnight Special, the band never achieved even a fraction of the fame of The Doors.
« HELLO, HELLO🤷♀️ » JIM 2021 💕
I respect you, John for distancing yourself from Doors. You recognized the diseased (Morrison) and ran in the opposite direction.
The accomplished talent of Manzerek and Krieger afforded you to showcase your brilliance, "to wit" admired.
Apart consideration Doors were a greater rock band from Venice Los Angeles California 🇺🇸
AA has been around since the 50's.
Only one person ever “owned” a Doors Song, that was Jose’ Feliciano
L'unico al mondo👿🎀🎆🎆🎆🎊🎉💔💔💔💔💔
He has a name
Most everyone that met Jim Morrison loved him. The problem was that no one was in love enough with him, to save him...
People back then were not sure how to handle people with alcoholism and bi-polar disorders. Jim had many emotional problems that people weren't aware of.
@@fishhookism and even these days people are screaming inside and no one knows. Sometimes you just can't tell.
Yes, I'm dying.
Without Jim no one ever would have heard of the other 3. Just a fact.
They needed each other without the band there is no Jim
Yes and no. Without the others no one would have heard of Jim. Ray Manzarek is not a keyboard player you meet every day...
@@Sergeant.Longnuts wrong, jim was always going to be famous no matter what...
@@zeke2566 Jim was the Doors..without him the other 3 were just average musicians plodding along hoping for a break.
@@jackypatterson9566 Average musicians? LOLLL
The lead singer of the Tea party Sounds so much like Morrison it's spooky. They should of had him.
@EbenVranken 1
I know. I love the Doors and Jim Morrison, but if you ever heard the Tea party you think it's Jim singing. And on that note i'd think he would've been a better choice then Eddie Vedder.
This guys a dork, always was. Perfect drummer for the band. Great drummer.
Morrison would have kept drinking, he was the real deal.

Notice he never picked Ian Astbury as the singer he would pick!!we had tickets in Toronto with the doors of the 21st century and unfortunately John had a problem with them touring and doing doors material and took them to court ..we still have the unused ticket stubs after the concert was cancelled..thanks John
YES! thanks for that. densmore, instead of being greatful for tagging along was a besotted as s. sorry for your loss. seen ray and Robbie in vegas= was very cool.
I'm 34 and for like 20 odd years always heard the doors and jim morrison mentioned but I never paid attention u til a year ago took the time to listen and to hear his poetry and who he was and it's so fascinating it's a shame how he died and how they buried him in Paris all alone and his headstone juwt gets vandalised constantly and hobos sitting at his grave drinking and smoking that's not respect to me towards a music and poet iconimagine if jim and tupac met same kinda dudes in the poetry way and how they look at police and the world bet that would of had some great conversations
so Eddie Vedder inducted both the Doors and the Ramones into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame... guy gets around
Jack white is your man because r.i.p
Michele Hutchinson he would have been perfect...
Best book of my adolescence
Alcoholism is not a disease just like smoking 3 packs a day is not a disease they are addictions.
Alcoholism is just like smoking? My father smoked 2 packs a day for almost 40 years, and quit cold turkey the day after he retired. He never picked up a cigarette again, nor did he ever have the urge. No more stress in a stress-filled job. I don't think its quite the same.
Alcoholism is indeed considered a disease, like any other disease. It takes the lives of many people, we all have to try to offer support to these people, for they do have underlying depression, etc going on.
Im stuck in willow ward in luton due to police corruption. I.need journalists and family and friends tp get me out safely. Abused to death in the uk. Thanks. James quinn
Eddie Vedder, yes!
Brb gonna look up that Eddie Vedder singing Roadhouse rq
call me crazy but I'd like to see Anthony Kiedis head a Doors reunion, or tribute.
I've always thought that the Chili Peppers were a modern incantation of the Doors.
James D Morrison
They had AA and NA John so where you’re coming from i hate to say this but some great people had to die or Die for us so we could live Amen to that 🙏🏻
I was thinking exactly the same thing about Jim's boozing if it was today he could have got clean
'Jim did not expose himself in Miami that night'... OK, John. But you always see Jim from behind, so... we really don't know what happens)))
Yeah, I don't think they can really smooth over or cover up what actually happened, no matter how much they would like to do so for "legacy" effect.
It was New Haven not miami
Bruce Dern is great
Ian Astbury of the Cult is the man for the job.
lost a little respect to anyone comparing mm to jim.
oho oho oho si no culp eon meje FRESA SALVAJE comenzer ya no puedo más ya no puedo más siempre se repite esta misma historia vivir así es morir de amor

Anybody but that guy
Had he not died also. I always felt Michael Hutchence of INXS would be the best fill in for Morrison. Same look, sound, vibe.
Billy Idol would have been the singer to get.
Makes you wonder how the other half lived...
Michael Hutchence, is the one and only who many can't help but compare to Morrison. It was my first impression seeing Hutch. What a Morrison vibe he had. He had the same physical stance and features as Morrison. Apart from the physical, so many parallels to JM, quite unreal. Like JM, MH had trouble coping with fame and celebrity, just wanted to do his art, poetry.
I’ll gladly watch this but no way I’m subscribing to the AP
Yeah I remember when I was in another body
I'm ecstatic that the Doors liked Pink Floyd. Imagine if they colabrated
A person would have to be totally Done with Alcohol for any long term abstinence (Sobriety) to take hold. throwing a person in A Clinic only gets them to abstain for the moment.
Eminem doesn’t deserve his name to be spoken by Densmore
What a world we live in.
When singing stars die of overdoses or alcoholism it may make you wonder if they died of the drugs or alcohol or was it the success of their music or both?🤨
Tell Johnney boy not to sweat it
Iggy pop . He could write some new songs for the Doors and he would be agent for revolution in the footsteps of Morrison
He hated Jim. When jim called from France john didnt want to talk to him. All four members did great things for the band but they isolated jim.
No way did they 'hate' Jim
I loved the comment about Jimmy Fallon. If that confused anyone, please search Jimmy Fallon Reading Rainbow.
She’s walking down the street !
Sad
Jim Morrison really disliked this guy.
i can say that I really had no use for him either.
He certainly made Jim s life into one of alot of undeserved tension and drama .....
john was really just jealous and wished he was the genius of the whole thing rather than jim.
he consoles himself now with his attempts at being a creative force like Jim and tryingout his own endevors....
you see John when younger never wrota song , was not educated and well
read like Jim and ray and really did not understand ithe big picture what the doors and Jim were attempting to do.
in a later interview that he too had now read
Nietzsche and understood what Jim had been going on about.
but not then when it counted.
he just beat on the drums and complain about everything he didnt like or understand .
that how I lost my job.
The Doors needed to find a singer that sounded exactly like Jim Morrison. There had to be somebody in the entire world that could fit that bill. Foreigner did it. Their new lead singer was perfect. But could Krieger have taken over the song writing duties?
Krieger did, in fact write a couple of the Doors hits. Would he be able to pick up the slack left by Morrison? As time went on Morrison was probably hindering the band's output more than helping. Perhaps a new vocalist would write some tunes, as well.
NO NO NO. Please don't mention Foreigner in the same sentence as The Doors. Morrison had more than just a voice. Replacing him was not in the cards.
they once asked iggy pop to be their lead singer
1:54 John's wise. and right
Ray was the genius
Rush Limbaugh
John didn't like Jim. couldn't stand him. when Jim lost control. threw his drums and said I'm done
let Val Kilmer fill in for Jimbo
