WOW!!! Very informative video! For someone who does not have much confidence, I feel like I can now master this beautiful quilt!! Edyta, you look fabulous in the pink sweater standing in front of the quilts!
Thank you Edyta can’t wait to start this wonderful project..have to finish Eldon first just adding the borders. I hope this has a warning of how addictive those Y seams are. I loved challenging myself. Good luck everyone and have fun
Another wonderful tutuorial, Edyta, and I received my fabric, book and templates in time to start with you! I'm not yet brave enough to tackle the entire quilt, and plan to make one block with sashing and borders as a wall hanging. I also want to thank you for inspiring me to try something I would normally toss off as impossible. I'd never have attempted this block if I hadn't been watching all your tutorials and live shows.
I just ordered this pattern. Your instructions are wonderful. I’m learning to slow down and enjoy each little step. I’ll be teaching at our next retreat in Weaverville. When I do, remembering to teach each little step will help me make the techniques easy for novice and experienced quilters. I want them all to feel great as they create.
I have been anticipating these videos to start. And I am excited and scared all at the same time. I am taking your advise and doing practice blocks first. The next hurdle will be fabric selection and getting them in the right order to make my star stunning. I got to remember baby steps, baby steps. Whew!! I am loving this challenge. Thank you!!
I kinda started my star upon stars with my own scraps! Hasn’t been to bad, but so greatful for the video to help me with a few mistakes I’ve been making. Thank you the wonderful video and tutorial! My fabric comes today! Yay
Wow! I purchased this book and a block of the month subscription from a different company several years ago and really struggled with it. I wrote in to laundry basket asking for help and they mentioned they would be making a video...i waited.... And decided to put it aside. Then today very randomly thought i would research it and saw this! Hope it can help me get back on track. I think the blocks i made were too wonky and mismatched in size so i will likely need to start over . My question to those who are working on this, are the templates very helpful? I have a strip cutting ruler so i think the diamonds are ok but i wonder if marking the 1/4 inch point is easier with these. I just don't like buying tools that are very project specific. Also, anyone know of any Facebook page where we can post our progress, ask questions, and keep each other motivated to continue? Thanks!
I am getting all the materials together to create this during my time in Poland while here as an expat for 6 months! What a great project/memory I will have whenever I see this. I have most of the materials & will order the rest today. I really appreciate the reinforcement to take 'one step at a time'!
Very interesting to see how you choose your colour schemes. Unfortunately, with the cost of fabric here I might be able to do one square as a wall hanging but not the whole quilt. The price of the fabrics has almost doubled in the past two years...crazy!
Thank again for this lesson. I finished my seamstress quilt top, just picked the backing, but I have yet to get it quilted. At least I have had some practice with these little 8 point stars…(over 80!) but these are pretty darn ❤ tiny 😂
I bought this pattern a few years ago, planning to make it very scrappy with actual scraps from other quilts. Now, maybe, I will do it a bit more coordinating. But I have 4 WIPs that I want to finish first...
In the meantime, I am making a table runner of 3 practice blocks. But in two of the blocks, I will use plain fabric for the setting triangles and squares, while in the center block I will use plain 3" diamonds for the center star and the small stars around it. That will make for a balanced look but not take quite so long as making 3 full blocks. As Edyta says, you're not finishing this quilt in 3 weeks!
Just wondering when the templates will be ready for shipping. I ordered three weeks ago, and I'm anxious to begin cutting (my fabric order is delayed until the templates are ready, apparently). Cannot wait to begin this quilt!
Thank you so much for your video Edyta you are so talented. Can't wait to start my sample. I just bought the book. Just wanted to know if all the measurements are correct in the book. In some social media says measurements are not accurate in the book, could you please help me with that before I start cutting I live in UK , temples will be too expensive to purchase Help
I’m just a follower like you, but the problems seem to be arising from the sashing. Read carefully. There is a point where you’ll be taking 3/16” seams. Also, where she talks about “segments,” some people think that means “strip sets.” They’re not the same. But the third week she’s going to focus on this sashing and I’ll bet she covers all of this then. So nice to see friends from England joining us! My paternal grandmother was English.
@@peggyharris7849 thank you so much Peggy. Your reply is so valuable. Will follow your advice. I so want to make this USA is so rich in quilting culture, though we are slowly getting there, but long way to go
And, when thinking about ambiguity in patterns I find a couple of approaches most helpful. 1. Draw the finished piece on paper to scale and measure the actual sizes. (Remember to add seam allowances but don't draw them.) 2. Cut only enough fabric for a test block. This is a great use for scraps. Sew it and then measure. If it comes out too small, take smaller seam allowances. If too big and there are points to protect, then take bigger seam allowances or sacrifice the points.
A side note: I’m wondering what your basket quilt on the ladder is called. It’s beautiful. I’ve ordered the templates,so looking forward to those coming. Thank you for the tutorial.
The "small stars" in the 12.5" blocks are 4" unfinished, according to the pattern. My first few are approximately 4"... (The stars for cornerstones in the sashing are 3.5" unfinished, so don't get them mixed up!)
That's what I have been doing. I like batiks for tiny piecing like this because they are thinner and less bulky where all the seams come together. Just make sure to measure after sewing and adjust seam allowances as needed, because different fabrics naturally take up more or less when folding the seams open or to the side, and with these tiny ½" diamonds there is no wiggle room.
Great video and looking forward to the next video's. As a hand stitcher if I make this quilt I would need to use the templates, but I see these are not transparent , which is nice to see how you use your fabric, all the templates I have are transparent. Will transparent templates become available too?
@@jennypare9564 Thank you for your reply, it is 'clear' :-) now, maybe handy for Edita @laundrybasketquilts to show this in one of the future video's for other hand stitchers.
So weird... my computer shows this video was aired 5 hours ago. I live in Colorado and I pulled the video at 8:30am. Not a big deal since we can always pull up the videos. hahaha
It is potentially rather confusing, since the cornerstone stars (1⅛" diamonds) end up 3½" unfinished, while the "small stars" (1¼" diamonds) that go around the big diamonds (1" strips) end up 4" unfinished.
@@myquiltstudio Looking at the book, the 1 1/8 measurement is for the corner stars, not the small stars. The small stars use 1 1/4 strips as I read it.
What a beautiful and intricate colour quilt. It’s an amazing effect! And I love those colours

Edyta I will be making the corner stars with the Lemoyne method. Is the finished size of the corner star 4"?

I have the stars upon stars book and in it it says 1.1/8 inches for the diamonds but you say 1.1/4 inches which one is correct please.
I believe you're looking at the cornerstone stars. The ones we're doing this week are the "small stars."
It is potentially rather confusing, since the cornerstone stars (1⅛" diamonds) end up 3½" unfinished, while the "small stars" (1¼" diamonds) that go around the big diamonds (1" strips) end up 4" unfinished.
Where can I get the pattern please, would love to make this quilt ☺️
Hello. You can find the pattern on our website! :) www.laundrybasketquilts.com/online-store/Star-Upon-Stars-p66301144

I believe it is the pattern that is wrong on one of the measurements not the book
