TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS
ABRSM’s recommended tempo for this piece is 63 dotted minim beats per bar, which works out equivalent to 189 crotched beats per minute. Although a reasonably steady pulse is needed, this piece can be played with a little rubato (looseness of time) which is a typical characteristic of the style of the Romantic period. (1820 - 1900)
The main considerations are keeping it legato (smooth) throughout and being careful to bring out the right hand melody above the accompanying left hand part. I chose to apply little dabs of sustain pedal on most of the bars - but that is not strictly required, nor expected at this grade and is more a matter of personal taste.

Watch out for the occasional accents in bars 3, 13, 19 and 27 and also the rit. (slowing down) from bar 29 until the end.

Yes The Initial Grade is a pre-Grade 1 assessment, introduced in 2021.
