Yes, ONE job is less secure then a diversified portfolio as a safety net, but your skillset has more upside to generate income then your portfolio... and can never be taken away. But your skillset can become irrelevant if you step away from yoru career for a decade. I do implement fire strategies (im flamingo fire apparently), but to finance my mini retirements between my corporate type contracts, while saving for earliesh traditional retirement (50-60 yrs of age). Knowing that if i do extend a sabbatical by 6 mo, i can always retire at 61 instead of 60. Besides, who knows what the markets will do. Future 60 yr old me wont beat myself up for spending 6 extra months travelling in my 30s or 40s

Yes yes yes enjoy the travelling whilst you’re younger and get out there and do it! We took a mini retirement of six months when we got married! It was wonderful. It probably set us back awhile on our financial independence goal but it was incredible.
We have no idea what flamingo fire is! Is that way you stand on one leg and pray for good market performance? Tell us more!
