- In the last video a viewer suggested showing the cheapest Big Mac, which would be more interesting. I agree, so here it is! The countries with the cheapest Big Macs. This data comes from the Big Mac Index, recorded multiple times a year since 1986. Basically those with cheaper Big Macs offer a lower cost of living, which is great for retirees and digital nomads.
The Big Mac Index was created by The Economist in 1986 as a way to measure the purchasing power parity (PPP) between different currencies. The index is based on the theory of PPP, which states that in a free market, the exchange rate between two currencies should equal the ratio of the prices of a basket of goods in each country. The Big Mac Index uses the price of a Big Mac as its basket of goods, and compares the price of a Big Mac in different countries to see if their currencies are under- or over-valued.

If you're already going back in time, you can go to Brazil and buy it for probably the smallest as this graphic states just $0,21.
I can assure you that this is innaccurate. It does not include Kazakhstan. A Big Mac here in the capital city of Nursultan today is 950 tenge- today that is $2.10. Placing 3rd. McDonalds opened in this country in 2016, and were always a similar value in dollar equivalence.

I was astonished how much McDonald's costs here (Brazil) since I arrived. A Big Mac is between 6 and 7 (American) dollars. Maybe that's why there's never anybody eating McDonald's here.

Well, as a Polish, it's not actually cheap. My country isn't in top anymore, but I think we have the same situation like countries in top 10.
Yes, we can buy for example Big Mac for smaller price than other countries, but for us it's still expensive. Our average salary is much worse than average salary in Germany or USA.
@@viaestra You make a good point. Income disparity likely factors into pricing. Nobody is going to buy one if the price is out of reach. The cost of making a burger is probably way lower than the selling price anywhere.

I am from South Africa, and our economy was totally destroyed by the ANC with corruption and racist policies. We have one of the (if not the most miserable) economies in the work starting from 1994 when the new government took power. This chart unfortunately just show how terrible it had become.
