@RockstarSissy i made the sweater so long again. i am nervous to take out the cast on row, but might go for it anyway. i can imagine, if i leave in the cast on row, how it will make the graft on look like a seam with added border - which i do not want. it's amazing you figured this out. thank you for getting back to me. keep on knittin'!
hi. this is great. have a sweater that is too short. making matching border just like this. not sure i can pull out original cast on the way i put the sweater together. can i do this same stitch into an existing row of the sweater without taking out the cast on row in order to bind the new piece on to it? thank you.
@12lovelight if you can't get out the cast, which if you do would require I think a slightly different graft. If you are going to leave the cast on in, I guess you can graft into with this method. I would suggest you make a small swatch and do a trial run before you do anything to your sweater. Also, I'm not sure how tight your cast on is or if it is ribbed but I have do an extension on a sweater and it does look like a seam in a way because hold on the yarn is different with each time you knit
@knitjunky What worked for me: with yarn from top piece, go P-wise into first (knit) st on bottom needle. After that, the pattern is * go P-wise into the first st on the top (and slip it off), then K-wise into the next st on the top; go K-wise into the first and second sts on the bottom (slipping the first one off); go K-wise into the first st on the top (slip off), then P-wise into next st on the top; go P-wise into the first and second sts on the bottom (slipping the first off) *
This an important technique to learn. Do you have a nemonic you use to remember what to do next? For the Kitchner stitch I know that I Knit and then purl on the front needle and purl then knit on the back needle. After the set up I do this: Front Needle: Knit Off, Purl on; Back Needle: Purl Off, Knit On, etc. It looks like you are using a similar technique. Thanks
You' ve done a great job and what you came to is useful but the video is incomprehensible . the the light is not enough and it won't be a bad idea if both rows you are grafting are on needles, so that we can see more plainly where are the purls and the knits. We would be happy if you do another video , using strictly knitting terminology. thanks
@knitjunky well, it's so hard that's why I made a video for people to see what exactly is going on with this very difficult stitch. I am happy it has helped some people with this task if that's what they needed to do. I feel badly if this is something you needed to accomplish and my video didn't help you. If words work for you I would be happy if you wrote the script! Thank you!
For the life of me, I have no idea what you're doing. "Do this like this," "Let it fall like that"? Where you say "purl," you seem to be slipping stitches purlwise, not purling anything. No clue.

Thank you for this break down. I was happy to see in the video that this was possible but couldn't dissect exactly what was going on. Thanks again!
