Actually...several reports at the beginning of 2024 indicated that EG was planning to leave esports, that's why they got rid of several divisions of other games. VCT was the exception because Riot contractually forced them to compete because they were out of time, plus they tried to sell their slot to FlyQuest which didn't work out because Riot owns the slots and not the teams unlike the LEC (where the orgs are the owners). That would explain why they took so long to release their players, maybe they were planning to transfer them to another org, but since it didn't work out they were forced to release them and go with a budget roster.
