Hi Dany, i have to questions.
1- have you ever planted a common hybrid of the zygopetalum ( the purple and green variety) in soil mix?
2- why you don't cut the flower spikes of the phalaenopsis species?( For example the phalaenopsis bellina have always his flower spikes on)

I've always loved orchids, and I have a "green thumb" but always heard how hard it is to care for them. I finally decided to give it a shot, and I looked up how to care for an orchid, and your channel popped up in my feed. A year later my orchid is thriving. It hasn't grown any flowers, but it grew a new leaf. Thank you for all your videos, and effort to help us have the confidence to own these beautiful plants ☺️

So good! Orchids usually grow pretty slow in comparison to other plants for example aroids. I used to be so impatient too! My orchids would do nothing for MONTHS. Until I realized it‘s normal🥲

When I fuss at my dachshunds or my cat near my orchids, I feel compelled to tell the orchids that it isn't them and I have to sweetly wish them happy growing..lol. So you are not the only one.
My gorgeous 'rootless' Cattleya was knocked over by my cat this morning, who normally leaves my orchids alone, and my Cattleya wasn't disturbed much as she was staked, but I found a root over an inch long! I'm so excited. My Rlc. Nakornchaisri Delight is going to be ok!!!!

I have small flat and I hold 10 orchid and most I had rescued from the dust bin now they look so beautiful no idea on what they are but they all look different. One has really big leafs and flowers thick to. Just wish I had put down where I got them all from and what the names are for them. Even the shop and garden centres only tell you if its phalaenopsis or other no more information on them at all. Best Orchid videos on RUclips keep up the good work.

I was berating myself the last couple days for not solving some orchid problems, so this video was likewise well-timed. One can get behind with repotting or treating pests…or less-than-ideal watering habits…and facing them can be hard.

At the time when you purchased some mini orchids, I also purchased some myself and placed them on some driftwood with sphagnum that were rising above my aquascape. For some period I was having some algae problems, due to my high light hanging about 5ft above my aquarium. At that time my orchids were flourishing.
After turning off my high light and moving my orchids to minipots, my algae issues disappeared. Yet, once my orchid roots weren't submerged in the water they started struggling and never came back. Needless to say, they are all gone now, but that was a learning experience for orchid root health and has changed the way I focus on medium for each orchid.

I’m so glad you are doing updates! I planted my zygo NOID in a soil/bark mix as you suggested BUT I repotted it back in bark cuz I thought I watched a video where it didn’t work out for you and you had to pot them back in bark! I’m going to leave it cuz it’s got a tiny new growth but this fall I’ll see how it’s doing.. It isn’t very hot here. 70-80’s so I’m hoping the fine bark mix will be ok. I’ve been wondering about your unusual orchid that took so long to bloom! Wow! I have an orchid I hug and love too! It’s about 15 years old, just a plain store Phal. But it was the first orchid my husband gave me. It has bloomed and bloomed through my ignorance and only fertilizing once year instead of once every 3 watering. I also have an orchid I named. It’s a NOID TLC dendrobium . When I received it the leaves fell off until it was naked and looking like an ugly duckling. But it is now growing a beautiful new cane! So I named it Ducky because I just know it’s going to turn into a beautiful swan one day!

Hi Dani, I have been following you since I got my first orchid and that was two years ago. That orchid from two years ago nearly died with only two small leaves and no roots, so I almost threw it away. But seeing her leaves still strong, I decided to give her another chance, or better said.. I asked her not to give up on me. It grew very little since then and I kept checking for roots, I thought I had seen something green somewhere in there so I was proud of her and let her be. A few days ago I wanted to see how many roots were growing, and to my surprise, there is only ONE fat root and 4 keikis!!!!! 4!!! What do I do?? Right before the orchid started dieing on me, it had given me two keikis which are doing very well and are actually bigger than what is left of their mom. I wish I could send you pictures.

I don’t have time to worry about bugs and other diseases on my flowers. If they can’t survive w the care I am able to give when my husband is not ill, then they don’t belong in my garden.
I have roses, amarillis bulbs, iris, cherry blossom trees, Japanese maples, camellias, lavender, cymbidiums and cattleyas, and lots of things in pots so the plants don’t get out of control too much 😊😊

I have both Ryncholaelias, 5 glaucas and 2 digbyana, with the exception of one glauca the rest are mounted, grown outside and hanging on the branches of an orange tree where they get several hours of full sun, all of those bloom profusely, as for the one in pot that one is placed on the windowsill of the kitchen where it also gets full sun but that one has never bloomed, so I'm pretty sure they need full sun at least for a couple of hours. One of the things you will notice when grown in full sun is that the leaves and pseudobulbs turn purple.

I wanted to ask you, will you eventually move your Cymbidium orchid outside? I see it in the background. I live in Italy and keep mine outside all year round, we get just a few frosts per winter where I live but never below -3 C. Is there a reason for which you are keeping yours inside ?

With phal. Princess Kaulani I'm experiencing the same thing as you are with phal. Brother Glory. She arrived in 2018 with a wet top leaf which fell after 4-5 days. Luckally she grew a keiki. But this keiki grew 2 leaves and 4-5 roots and haven't done anything since 2018! She's not dying but she's not developing either. Just stoped growing. Same as you I privide her with fertilizer, water, light, warmth, new pottig mix. Nothing. I call it "the curious case of princess Kaulani". I don't have an explanation why she's not progressing...

I have a question I both an orchid last December with sudobulbs I do not know the name but it has slim stem like bulbs with multiple leaves every few centimeters of around 15 to 20 cm long and flower stems come from the crown of the bulbs when I both it it had white flowers for a week or so then in January it bloomed again still white flowers for a few weeks but just a small spike with 3 flowers now it made a big flower spike with 10 flower buds and the first one opened but now the flowers are green with a little pink in the center is this normal? Also a dark purple version of the same orchid has not bloomed at all since I both it in december which makes me a little nervous if it’s doing oké some of the bulbs look a bit dehydrated even though I water it the same as the first one

Please help…. I've been following you on
RUclips for about a year now and finally
made my way over to following you on
Instagram. Right now I have 10 orchids
nine of which are healthy happy and
thriving in leca. However my Vanda who
seemed happy even sprouted a new leaf is
starting to lose her bottom leaves and I've
found little spots of mold on her roots. She
is potted in a tall vase, bare rooted, I was
watering her once every day with a 35
minute soak in a kelp max, orchid plus
20-14-13 distilled water mixture but after a
while of watering every day she started to
sprout a leaf but lost a bottom one. So
then I cut back to watering every four days
because it was the winter months. Now
that we are entering spring, I figured I
should start watering her everyday again,
but I don't want to do more damage than
good. She gets about an hour and a half of
sunset light on her foliage and her basket..
but not her roots. I live in Kentucky and I've
    had her since November.
