Man i'm late to this channel, but nice to see an actual job, not the collage stuff. Collage stuff is cool, but I really liked this. Nice work and thanks for breaking down the specifics of your porosity issues.
Should have preheated weld before welding on it bu. I built tanks with boilermakers Union.25 yes and I loved that shot.. that’s a decent cap brother. I’m to old now brother. You just hang in there. Good money the made . Buy silver and stack it back every week you will be rich in 20 your. Looks like you have pretty decent hands workining with you. Good luck and be safe.
Willing to bet dirty wire is the problem with worm holes and porosity using dual shield wire, even new rolls out of the bag. You need to clamp a piece of abrasive cloth on the wire before the drive rollers to clean the wire off, but you have to replace it every roll or the scum will actually re-deposit back on the wire and create said wormholes for you to go crazy with grinding.
Foreman looked into dirty wire and it wasn’t the issue. We actually took a spool out of the package and let it sit in the elements for a few days to get good and rusty then used it and it actually worked fine lol just wouldn’t strike easy but once it was going it was fine. Out of 6 welders only two were having porosity issues and on every machine they used. It was operator error.
Super interested in becoming a boilermaker. Trying to get some info on the apprenticeship program right now. I have 2 stick certs does that make a difference?
Not up to us the plant safety did a inspection and determined 2097 filters were good enough. I could blow my nose after a shift and the tissue would be clean.
@@Jon-jk8vd thanks man yeah unions the best! I’m 22, own a house, have every toy I need, I’ve made 6 figures for the past two years and contributed to a pension! I Would of never been able to do that working non union.
Jon you are correct!! THIS IS OSHA LAW!!! AIR LINE SUPPLIED RESPIRATORS WITH AN EMERGENCY SCBA ARE TO BE USED!!!!!this is considered to be an IDLH environment!!!
In the northern winters it gets crazy cold so the leather gets all frozen then when you weld it heats up the leather and warps and twist is making it completely useless because it’s all twisted and curled up. Yeah man if you ever hit the Sudbury list you’ll probably work with me!
fromy my experience with two different companies i’ve only to take horizontal and vertical tests bc all you weld, besides floor seams, is verts and round seams on a tank
@@JTwelder. If I get into an apprnticeship program, then I will just be put on work like this, right? I mean or is it that they put you to work according to your progress through the apprencticeship program? For instance, I can MIG weld and everything you did in this video I can see myself doing including the 7018 work. I undrstand all th issues that you clarified. So how do your bosses know where to put you to work? Thanks!
@@larrymasterspowerbuildingc4477 usually you need tickets to actually weld on the job. If you get onto a apprenticeship and don't have tickets you'll be sent out right away as a helper till you have tickets. When you have tickets your sent out as a helper that can weld.
Too close of a distance for the worms brother I guess it depends where you’re welding tho might be wrong might be right but the worms from my exp with flux are from keep the tip too close
George Stewart there’s money in welding for sure but it’s all in major industry like oil/gas, energy, natural resources and pollution control. If you work for small companies or shops you’ll make pennies. Small pockets = small money large pockets = big money.

yeah definitely any welding tickets help. Job experience is the best though if you've already worked in a metal trade than it helps a lot
Take the apprenticeship. In BC you can become a pro-jo with a journeyman welding ticket.
Dude thats good
Carol Florian thanks man
You guys should be on breathing air, it's as simple as a little breathing air pump, rated airline and a yoke.

how do i get a job like this?
Join a union.
When welding with a company that does tank welding like this, what type of tests do they give you to hire on?
All 4 position open route plate test with the process they are using.
Sometimes you can do a overhead And pass and get you cert.
