Are Your Boots Leaking?

So, you've been out on a walk and have noticed your feet getting wet... surely it can't be your boots? Well, it could be, but it could also be a few other things. This video demonstrates the test we carry out to see if the boots are leaking or whether it could be something as simple as investing in a pair of gaiters!

or it could be the act of walking and the boot bending at the toe allows water to penetrate or find a weak area in the boot.

Hi, the flex point of the boot will always be a weak spot due to the amount of material flexing in that area. Thanks for watching. Paul.

Can we mitigate against the effect of leaks in torn Gore-tex membranes by re-proofing the boots with wax (in the case of smooth leathers) or spray in the case of suede/cordura? From my experience all Gore-tex membranes eventually rupture, so having a leather boot that can be re-waxed is lot more practical in the long run.

Hi Thomas. ABSOLUTELY, taking good care of the uppers by cleaning and re-proofing regularly will prolong the life of any boot, with or without a Gore-Tex membrane. Paul.

what membrane is she talking about not filling the boot beyond?

Most boots, regardless of their membrane, won't be waterproof right to the cuff, so we recommend filling to a couple of inches below the cuff. The membrane inside this boot is Gore-Tex, though. Kind regards, Harry.
