- Bitcoin was NOT the first cryptocurrency! A company named DigiCash beat them by nearly 14 years with their product eCash. NetScape, Visa, and Microsoft all wanted to invest millions in it, but it still failed. Today we learn why. This is the tragic tale of eCash.

@@Nellooo Awesome great to hear that and thanks for responding
The technology still exists and fits all of the requirements that the US Government is looking for. I think we will see the technology resurrected for modern use. It was just too far ahead of its time.
xec freedom coin future cash 😎💪
Wow so Chaum was like the OG Satoshi I guess. Weird to think he got denied because he was basically too ahead of his time. Cool vid thanks Nello
Thanks for watching! :D
the hell
this channel only got
the issue is really if it features a blockchain thats completely exposed, its very much traceable. theres only 4 or 5 coins that exist to truly be private.
Great video! Been watching your OSRS videos for a while! Love your new channel!
Also, yes people pay 90E for pictures of monkeys, but don't forget that people pay $20,000+ for RS3 Party hats 😉
Everything is relative mate
I love the videos
Thank you!
sooo underrated
i think you should make videos about todays trends and stuff, just popular things rn. maybe it will get more attention
so, if it wasn't a patented licensed technology, it would have become standard in the 90s?
as much as i admired David Chaum, i feel differently now.
I think he's a great inventor, but not much of a business man. Assuming anyone could use it freely it would've been integrated in to Netscape and Windows 95, so I imagine it would've become the standard for paying for things online.
@@Nellooo tends to be the case with inventors vs investors ... take Tesla for example, we'd have a very different world if he got to do everything he thought of. but to have them begging at your feet and just cast that future aside is a very different story from Tesla's.
David Chaum is still one of the few people i think may have been Satoshi Nakamoto.
I've been buying eCash and holding for the long term! I am sure this project will explode.
heyyyy that's pretty good.
Thank you!
Thumbs up.
What a great video, thank you. David never stopped inventing, though anyone promoting a thing called eCash as I've seen in these comments is being disingenuous and is nothing to do with him. If you're interested in what Dr Chaum is up to nowadays, it's all privacy focussed under the hat of the 'xx network'. Again, way ahead of his time but some of the ideology of the days of the original eCash carries on in the sense of trying to claw back a bit of autonomy for ourselves in a world where the internet has now evolved to make products of us in return for advertising and loss of privacy. Someone here lamented the idea of a micropayment based web but had eCash succeeded in the 90's then we wouldn't have sold our souls to the tech giants who wield more power than was imaginable back then.
We dont even have toll booths in Netherlands ? are you maby mistaken with belgium
We have at least one, Westerscheldetunnel requires toll. There might be a couple more, not sure.
So eCash wasn't a cryptocurrency so much as an anonymous online payment system... a way to use your real-world money to make online payments. Really interesting, the serial number & stamp idea is basically a digital version of how travellers cheques worked... each travellers cheque had a unique serial number & was stamped by the issuing bank/office, making each cheque traceable around the world. To cash them at a bank/currency exchange, the teller would check the serial numbers & bank details against a worldwide report to confirm they hadn't been cashed before, weren't fake or reported lost/stolen. Shame that Chaum was so determined to sabotage all his potential lucrative contracts... but if that saved us from an internet browsing experience driven by micro-transactions it was a worthy cause! 👍
I think Satoshi Nakamoto is Chaum using his mask
Never heard of it before. But i already trust this eCash more than any modern crypto currency.
Pls make more vid pls
man, I love all your videos so much.. this underrated channel should deserve million subs!!!! keep creating more entertaining and useful videos like this pls.. I always be on your side!
