- The Hoosier National Forest provides over 203,000 acres (260 miles of trails and 4 campgrounds) and is the only National Forest in Indiana. Home to the Charles C. Deam Wilderness area (Indiana’s only Congressionally designated area), Brooks Cabin, Hickory Ridge, Fire Tower, Sundance Lake, Pioneer Mothers Memorial Forest, Westley Chapel Gulf, Buffalo, Trace, Hemlock Cliffs, The Lick Creek African American Settlement, Rickenbaugh House, and Buzzard Roost. www.fs.usda.gov/hoosier
And now an highway is planed for it
They have almost logged every decent tree out of the forest. Perry and Crawford counties have been turned into weed pits and trash trees all in the name of managing the forest ( thats crap). They create nice log roads that are graveled, but refuse any motorized vehicles other than their own of course. They keep telling deer hunters it will help the herds so they wont complain about the devastation. Its sad the forest i walked in is now gone for me and my kids kids. And when it all grows back im sure the managing will start again...
