Earned a sub. Great ideas that seem 100% logically fitting and should have been in the planning process 6 weeks ago. Honestly can’t believe they released two bosses with the same “move away” mechanic at the same time.
Thanks! I have a feeling the boss changed during design a few times and we ended up in a situation where we have this as the result. Pretty sure they mentioned way back this boss alongside both dragon lance AND crossbow as options... and they even went as far stating it would be one of the first new bosses to benefit from with elemental weakness but you wouldnt use earth spells unless you were a mage locked account or something. We'll see what they address moving forward
Great thoughts on the mechanics here. Agreed that a mage switch to the wand with earth spells for the tail would be cool as a better alternative to dual-hit melee weapons. Hopefully they add that! I initially thought the prayer pillar charge mechanic would work like one of those pressure-fill puzzles (not sure what they're actually called) where you can charge all three if you charge each one in the correct order, but it is kind of disappointing that it's a mechanic you just entirely ignore in a solo or duo.

Couple things: 1. I don't think the waves were designed with the idea that players would step through them. There are tiles in the corners of the room where the waves just barely don't reach. I think the original "plan" was to have players gather on those tiles as they wait out the waves, and then attack the tail afterwards. They just decided to allow players to step through the waves as well, but they made it far too easy, mostly because the punishment for missing the timing is taking a 20 unlike in TOA where you'd take like a 60 if you missed a Zebak wave skip (and it's much more important to conserve your supplies there than it is here cause you can literally bank whenever you want) . It's good to not immediately kill players for missing a mechanic in my opinion, but missing a wave should at least hit you for a 40 so that it sends the message that "avoiding these is your priority. Only step through if you're confident." 2. I'm so tired of prepscape. Stop giving the bosses prep phases. We had it with Sire, CG, with Duke, Moons and now again with Huey. Moons are excusable cause the "prep" is you literally making your supplies for the fight. Stop forcing me to spend so much time doing nothing before I get to the fun part. Whisperer, Vardorvis and Leviathan are so much better imo for this exact reason. 100% of the time I spend fighting the boss is actually spent fighting the boss. I know I can't keep asking for another ToB, but please just give us another ToB where it's no nonsense and just about fighting the bosses 3. Final phase of this fight is still very good imo. Flicking your prayers to keep the pillars lit while also avoiding the lightning and while avoiding the waves is engaging gameplay to me personally. I understand that not everyone may agree, but I really enjoy that final stretch.
In the corner?? Interesting... that really only works if you didnt have to melee the whole time, no one wants to miss out on damage hiding in a corner far from the tail (unless it did more damage like you stated) Interesting prespective on it being a prep phase... i guess its kind of like Sire mos of all. They could adjust it to maks it feel more like a fight but I'm not sure they will Great points all around!
As someone that only has a couple of Kc at TOA, I agree. I didn't get loot for TOA until my 3rd KC because of how bad I was. The final phase reminds me a little of the chaos without the gear changing. Prayer flicking , DPS, movement, and to a lesser degree knowing what your teammates are doing(what prayer they have up)
I don’t think they expected players to huddle in corners and wait out mechanics. Why would the tail, the object you are intended to attack be attackable the tick it slams if you were in fact supposed to run to the opposite corner and wait before attacking? I agree with the comments in the video, this is Jagex trying to teach players very advanced mechanics but poorly implemented.
I vividly remember a Osrs Stream where a Jmod (Possibly Mod Arcane) stated that he disliked the idea of the raid (He was talking about toa) produced its own kryptonite (the shadow/fang). This was not long after the releasde of toa so i can only imagine that they are trying to move away from and items being dropped by the boss becomes the BIS. I agree they missed the mark bigtime with this boss.

I dont think they will always avoid it or always do it, it will probably happen from time to time. Huey is just a really obvious one since its quite literally a dragonbane wand with elemental use, two things huey is weak to.
It would be cool if there was a group boss mechanism where one player had to pick up a large orb and be defended by the other players, and then the orb would get placed in a magical device or thrown into a well where it would release a spell that finished off the boss or dealt it a bunch of damage. Or maybe one player has to pick up a giant sword to break a shield with.
I disagree about the shockwave. The game has put an emphasis on the tick system. It's all about the ticks now, and jagex is running with it. That's what's unique about osrs. It's not "abusing the engine" anymore. It's become the game. So they are showing you how to run over stuff so that you can be more efficient in other pieces of content.
Thats a fair perspective, I just dislike how its not intuiative. If they wanted to teach players to run through damage to avoid it, there are probably better visual indicators.

Masses are alright, it's not too bad atm hardly using food or pots for kills, but solo or group fights man. The health or defense needs to be lowered based on player count. 7m kills maxed is insane I'm not maxed, and I'm getting roughly 9m solo kills. At 200kc first 100 kc was split did 50 solo 50 masses made 400k total more loot coming from solos Did 100 today after latch and made 890k 50 solo 50 mass and most came from solo again. For each run I was using 1 sip of prayer 1 sip of super combat. And a inv of anglers. Masses I was using a sip and and a piece of food every 2 or 3 kills. There are multiple ways to skip the waves I see so many people messes up but I'm sure some guides will pop out.
Great video, I am on board with a lot of this. Have no unique mechanics during phase 1 is terrible, wand being useless at this boss is a fail, range and mage being useless makes the fight one dimensional. I also feel like charging all 3 pillars for a damage boost alone is lazy, each pillar could disable a mechanic or boost a specific attack style to really give players complex ways to engage with the pillar design.
Theyre over babying new players. 2 more basic bosses coming, hopefully they decide to make the fire ans ice boss engaging...at least those will finallt require gear swaps
In guessing they'd wand to have an ugrade for it from higher level content in the future to put it on the same level as the other dragon hunter weapons. But also elemental weaknesses & standard spellbook aint really working anywhere

For the lasers you can avoid them without running through them by moving up with it then back down because of how they come out scattered. Running through them is the emergent mechanic, not the one they designed.
@TravagGames wrong on that one dude. You can do it while walking and no tile skipping. It is an intended mechanic to walk through them while they're down It is an intentional design
Okay Ill give you that as intended..So you are saying that you wait until the lasers are down and then its safe to walk through it.. thats not the same as running through an active damage source thats never down by skipping tiles due to running. This is why I used olm lightening and p3 warden (not p2) as examples. Laser gates and the other examples are not the same by your very definition.
They should make a solo encounter one that is scaled and is harder and more profitable like the nightmare it doesn't have to be 10m/hr 3-4/hr for the harder version should be enough
I respectfully disagree. Most encounters are already solo friendly in osrs. If they aren't, the community will find a way to solo it, even if it isn't optimal. (ToB, and arguably CoX). Huey was originally pitched to be a GROUP boss yet jagex caved again to players demanding the content be doable solo. So their design philosophy is becomes to make a group boss that is solo-able instead of making a boss that is meant to be done in groups. Now there's way less emergent gameplay to find, if there is any. One of the biggest breakthroughs in osrs history was finding out how to do CoX solo because nobody thought it was possible. It's way more effort to do CoX solo because it was designed with groups in mind, yet people evidently like doing solo CoX. Phosani's nightmare is a fantastically designed fight, but actively encouraging the player to play the game solo (for clearly better rewards) is so antithetical to the spirit of an MMO that I really wish it didn't become the standard. At this point, I'm conviced Jagex will never make content like ToB again. It was lightning in a bottle. Once in a while, just make GOOD group content, then the next one can be solo. I just wish Jagex stuck to their guns and stopped trying to make content that will appease everyone, all the time.
If they adjust the pillars slightly, they could make it a viable harder solo encounter while keeping groups the better option due to it being easier and slightly faster.

... the boss sucks lets be real here XD the entire boss is just completely pointless all the mechanics can be skipped honestly when youre in a big group theres almost no point in doing them just skipp it take cheap food you can bank inbetween . the boss fuckuin sucks and its not fun at all
I dislike that the main unique mechanic of the prayer pillars are ignored in larger groups and impossible in solo/duo. It feels good in small teams though and I Wish they would have really focused on making it feel good with all sizes

I was doing that for footage relavant to the stuff I'm talking about. Trust me, 19 people didnt need my help to finish the boss off, i can spend 3 kills doing a couple clips lol
you can actually use magic too. Earth surge with the new wand and earth tome. Takes longer than melee tho. Range? Works but you will not damage the tail in the 2nd phase. I thought blow pipe would be good. Zero for days 😂😂😂
Yes you CAN use magic but given its weaker and costs more its not a real option. I thought of bp too because of the attack speeed but dual machs are effectively like 1.66 speed and are more accurate.

Wardens p2 laser gates were intended that way..... this isnt a new mechanic
