It’s been 100 years since the ballroom party today.
It sounds like one hundred year old music a haunting sound like it is in the past.
Indeed it has and that's a good thing it's in the past and gone
@@etherealenergy9471 funnily enough, all of these songs were made in 1934, and not the 1920's.
Why they used music written over a decade after the date of the ball? I have no idea. I guess the songs were made earlier in the Shining's universe.
Either way, its great music from an amazing musical period, so I'm not complaining
Some say it's still going on..

The Shining is one of the few horror films that actually unsettles me every time I watch it. I think maybe because even if there are supernatural elements to the movie, the plot of it feels so real. Watching Jack slowly go mad while Wendy is trying so hard to protect her son and herself gets under my skin like nothing else can.
I agree.
For me it has something to do with the ambiguity. For instance, who tried to strangle Danny? It wasn't Jack or Wendy. It's never explained.
Nobody realises what pressure I am in by the management of the Overlook. When you see me in here, I'm working.
@@Alexia24601Who opened the pantry door?
People try too hard to explain the supernatural things in this movie to find logical explanations for the paranormal activity that went on, when pretty much the movie points out that there are entities or spirits involved in the story, especially near the end when the pantry door is opened for Jack. There definitely were ghosts haunting the hotel but I don’t think Jack was possessed, I think he was more like influenced by the evil of the hotel, in Doctor Sleep the ghosts can get physical with people. But Jack was already an abuser, it was able to corrupt him slowly, he was a guy who battled alcoholism and had trouble with his family and a lot of other personal issues, the hotel brought these things to the surface. Pretty sure aside from the ghosts, that The Overlook has its own spirit or shine and is an entity in of itself. I know in the book people also reported seeing things in the hotel over the years, it just depends on how strongly people shine.
*"A man takes a drink, the drink takes a drink, and then the drink takes the man... Ain't it so, Dad?"*
I know this was always supposed to sound creepy, but this is genuinely so relaxing
Me too I feel the same thing
I think that is kinda the point, on the context of the movie, the place seduces Jack to want to stay there.
It is relaxing. It is relaxing because when you are dead and your soul is part of the Overlook, you have all the time in the world.
So trie it's my favsong 1934
This music should not be creepy lol
Honestly, in its own weird, haunting-even terrifying way, The Shining is a beautiful film ❤️
The original author, Stephen King hates it as it is not faithful to the book
The movie is better than the book. Stephen King likes cinematic versions of his book, but his versions aren't liked by cinephiles. Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is in the list of the 100 best movies of all time.
@@Spectahman2.0 Yes but there are things in the book which don't translate well on screen; King made his own production of the Shining in the 90s but it wasn't well received. Theres no doubt that Stephen King is a brilliant author, but Kubrick needed to alter the story to make it flow for the film. I actually find it a shame he doesn't like it because it is such a good film, even if it does steer away from the original narrative.
I agree only downside is how emotionally abusive of a director Kubrick was
“I love you, Danny. I love you more than anything else in the whole world. And I’d never do anything to hurt you, never. You know that, don’t you?”
That changed rather quickly
Sure did!!*☆

The greatest horror film ever made. Nothing comes close. Such a chilling atmosphere and intensity.
Dead end 2003 is also good
Totally agree. It's just perfect.
One that has a very similar, isolated, feel, but is a completely different type of horror movie, is John Carpenter's The Thing, 1982. The isolation of the Arctic station surrounded by snow, darkness, wind, ice, and fear is as isolating as that of the Overlook Hotel in the winter. The Arctic station even has a radio to communicate with others, but receives nothing. If you like feel of horror movies in complete isolation, give The Thing 1982, a try.

For real, it can be either calming/enticing or disturbing/eerie 😅
Oh, so that's why the Sierra Madre in New Vegas unnerves me. All the speakers are decayed and play distorted music.

Kubrick's Shining truly manages to mix cabin fever, mental issues, alchoholism and the paranormal perfectly. Personally, besides the music and the artistic derection aswell as the story, this is why I love it.
Ik right the guy acted like a complete drunk who was also like a psychopath who also was really into women and could have some well... Cabin fever it's like they say people go nuts in the winter when it's cold.
You said it perfectly.
@@djwimsy6739 Most people do get the cabin fever and seem to go nuts. Those are the same losers that say they want to live on Mars. They are clueless as to how isolating and confining Mar stations would be. As for me, I am always alone and at my home property. Everything I need is here. Also, just because it is winter does not mean that you can not leave. I am more outside than inside, on my property, including in winter. I have a coats. I have 12 hectares that I am constantly developing. I leave my property as little as possible. I am not dependent on others to give me worth. Actually humans make me feel worthless. Thus, I do not suffer cabin fever. I require no companionship nor to go places for recreation.
“You have always been the caretaker sir. I should know, I have always been here. “I am not kidding that is one of the only lines in a movie I have heard that actually shook me. There were a lot of moments in this movie that really just made me feel very uncomfortable the first time I watched it. Some moments still do, like when Dick Halloran is in bed and Danny shines to him to let him know he is in danger.

Everything about this really fits the mood of "The Shining". Imagine if you are alone by yourself and you hear this music. I would get chills. Fun fact: The man who wrote the first and second songs also made Heartaches/It's just a burning memory from "Everywhere at the End of Time," and many other samples from the album. He died in 1940 due to his door being launched at his skull by a bomb.
I was taking care of an old friend with Alzheimer's for a few months. A couple of decades earlier, she was a friend of mine who was an intelligent and seemingly, very Christian woman, but, by now, had no short-term memory. As a matter of fact, she made a goldfish seem like Rain Man. You'd think
this might be hard to deal with, but I found ways to entertain her for hours by playing the same songs she loved, many times over, like "Dancing Cheek To Cheek", each time seeming like a new experience for her that might have taken her back to a more meaningful time. Unfortunately for her, she kept on
thinking her house she lived in for over 50 years was MY house, and, if I didn't watch her, she'd be out the door looking for the that non-existent house. Since she had no short term memory, I felt that, if I didn't stop her, she MIGHT have ended up in the Pacific, for she was ALWAYS heading West when she got out the door. Anyway, because she kept on thinking her house my house, taking the "mi casa, su casa" to an extreme, I couldn't help but think of that scene in the movie, "The Shining", where the Jack Nicholson character was told by the character, Grady, that he was ALWAYS the caretaker, something the Nicholson character had no memory of. Because of that, I'd think of this song played at the very end of "The Shining", and, I'd play it for my old friend. She loved it, and, I'd play it over and over for her. As the song played, if she wasn't saying, "I'm thinking about this house", she'd ask me about MY house, which, again, was hers, and, I'd say with a with a British accent as I impersonated the Grady character from "The Shining", "You're the caretaker of this house, Miss Potter. You've ALWAYS been the caretaker, if I may be so bold." When I asked her where she thought her "REAL" house was, she would always point West. Believe it or not, there was a graveyard just some yards WEST of her house, and, she'd point to it. Looking back on it all, I'm thinking she might have been right... all that time.
Wow, man. It's an awesome story!

I love how the song echoes in the background as Jack is talking to Lloyd the bartender, adds to the spooky and manic atmosphere since it is a song about someone reminiscing about romance and that is a big contrast with the fact that Jack is going deeper and deeper into insanity. There are many things in the film that don't "make sense," but they are done intentionally. For example, the layout of the hotel, the different decor, and architecture don't make sense or flow. This was to help disorient the viewers further to make them feel uneasy.
So what ? The audience is hearing it not the characters. In South Korean cinema they use music from all genres and all cultures and all decades in any scene set in any time period that they feel like using. As long as it is the audience not the characters hearing it, it does not matter.
I worked in a semi-remote lodge in the 90s. One winter we got stuck there for 3 days because of snow. I was on night maintenance with a lot of down time and tried to get the girl at the front desk to watch this film as we had it in stock for guest rental. She said she'd never watch it...good times!

@@harisbux Mr Torrance, your money is no good here. On behalf of the management.

Lloyd : No charge to you, Mr Torrance.
Jack Torrance : No charge?

Lloyd : Drink up, Mr Torrance.
We're making it out of the garden maze with this one 🔥🔥🔥
The last song sounded very haunting to me.
Sounds exactly like it does in the movie. Excellent.
this has even more reverb than the movie.
A haunting movie about a haunted hotel. Only Kubrick could come up with a masterpiece like 'The Shining' from a cliche!
I like to listen to this as I smoke my cigar and drink whiskey
" You set 'em up and I'll knock 'em back Lloyd - one by one "
Here's to five miserable months on the wagon.

I lost my grandfather d January 2, 2020 every time I hear this song I think of him in the old days. who's with me? do you think about youre past when you hear this song ?
K klokholm. Yes I do and I will be 75 on the 23Rd and grew up in Washington, D.C. So yes having old School Parents I still remember it well. God Bless.
yes I do
Absolutely I love old music charlston music bless u your right does bring memories my parents passed 12 years ago miss them every day u take care
Older music like this reminds me of my grandpa too. He was a Merchant Marine and would bring back records from the places he visited. One of them was Ue o Muite by Kyu Sakamoto, the song also known as Sukiyaki. My mom knew it, and just today I played the song for my nephew and sang along. He seemed to like it.
The same
This Film is more depressing the more I think about it. I mean a Man succumbs to insanity cause of a haunted hotel and in the end he just becomes a part of it, happy even, probably the only time where I saw Jack happy and at peace at the same time. Almost as if he is a new person and ok with it.
Very sad.
Jack was always the caretaker.
Am I the only one who finds this soothing?
i feel like i am everywhere at the end of time
Funny fact: The person who did the sountrack (AI BOWLY) its the same who did the first song of the careter (Its jsuta burning memory)
@@alwaysnofunny5741 learn English then comment (no hate)
@@EverywhereAnEmptyBliss there was no reason to comment that lmao their English was perfectly fine enough for me to understand. usually, if you have to use the addendum (no hate) with a sentence, it implies the sentence is indeed hateful in nature and therefore bears no constructive purpose.
You’ve always been the caretaker here Mr. Torrance. I should know, I’ve always been here.
Great party isn't it?
“Perhaps they need a good talking, if you don’t mind my saying so. Perhaps a bit more. My girls, sir, they didn’t care for the Overlook at first. One of them actually stole a pack of matches and tried to burn it down. But I ‘corrected’ them sir. And when my wife tried to prevent me from doing my duty, I ‘corrected’ her.”

Help, I can still hear American Swing.
6:17 i was so prepared for the flooding of blood and because that didn't happen makes this even more haunting
Weird how music can change in different circumstances or moments. Like these songs were happy songs to people and now its unsettling for people "music can change so much"
